Padilla Was The Best Midget Bodybuilder - much better than Flex Lewis.
I know some people will disagree and that's perfectly fine. Have a great day.

Flex pic is 6-7 years old.

Hey newb, I'm noticing a trend with you. You show the guy you're promoting (in this case Padilla) at his best ever shape and condition and you show the guy you're bashing at one of his worst. Also, why did you have to create a 2nd thread, when you could have easily included this in your Tom Platz bashing thread, of which you have since gotten destroyed in btw. :-*
-
Yes Padilla was better but for this shit era Flex Lewis isn't bad.

That version of Lewis would dwarf Padilla in height and weight.

Wrong. Benizizza was. P.I.P.

You could argue that...ripped to shreds.

Imagine what this guy would look like on all the exotic stuff of today. Padilla would have been an absolute freak also.

Guy got shredded!

Excellent point.

202 competitors are like watching paralympians.
-
I met Danny a few years ago in Rochester...........grea t guy,I towered over him by the way! :D
Got a lot of pics I`ll have to scan.
-
I think this was heaviest he ever competed at.
-
Maybe the most ripped he ever was.
-
Perfection.
-
I think this was heaviest he ever competed at.
NO! Danny when he was at his best in 81 the year alot of people thought he won but took home 5th place he came into the show weighin 160lbs all illusion. The judges thought he looked sick and over-dieted, apparently danny had been training and dieting like a mad man training 2-3 times a day and also running 5 miles a day. danny went crazy that year

yes post them... great Bodybuilder, "The Giant Killer"
-
Padilla was the best midget. Bodybuilder is superfluous here.
-
What a lump of shit branch is.
As for flex he has improved so much since that pic. He's gained weight, filled out and looks massive now.
-
What about this guy?
-
Gotta agree with the OP here. I like Lee Labrada too.

Danny and Labrada where good. Franco won 2 Mr O's so just taking that into consideration.
-
Is he still alive?

Comparing Lee to Padilla is ridiculous. Lee always had a poor structure, very narrow, huge arms, poor chest. Lots of flaws. If you throw in Labrada in the midget category, he was the best, proportions unmatched. Benaziza for the freak factor.

Did Danny never win any pro show? Nope. Lee has. So who is better?

Saw Padilla a couple of years ago. He looked unbelievable for his age. 2014 or so is like 30 years past early 80s. This man KEPT his physique.
-
padilla had perfect balance n symmetry imo, he was flawless, he was definatlly in the top 5 overall as far as great short men go

Makawy was great too. The fact that Lee won a pro show is irrelevant. Branch Warren has a better record than a long list of Bbers whose physiques were superior to his.

yeah no doubt makawy was awesome, the late vince gironda trained him really well to look like that, makawy just like padilla had perfect balance n flow, everything just blended together perfectly

i agree ! but Vince only gave the finishing touches to Makkaway. he was working a lot with ken Wheeler a well known Gym owner in Canada.
-
Saw Danny guest pose in the mid 80's in S.Fl. He was very wide for his height with perfect balance and proportion. Definitely in my top 3 short bodybuilders.

Belknap, trained and did a seminar at my gym back in the eighties. He was thick and grainy which you didn't see back then, especially his legs. I know he was diabetic and used insulin. Probably one of the first Bodybuilders to use insulin correctly.
-
The correct answer is Franco Columbu. Only Mr. Olympia in the group.

But his physique turned into a mess after he won Mr Universe and the NABBA WC.

Depends on whether you prefer boxers or briefs
-
We need to define the term "midget" in terms of bodybuilding. What is the maximum height to be called a midget in bodybuilding. I'd say 5'5 and below. I wouldn't classify Labrada as a midget. Short yes, midget no.
-
dont forget about the guy in the middle:

If he was 5'9 he would have been a multi Olympia winner. That is a perfect shot. Even has calves.

Sick arms but terrible chest. Padilla is more complete.

Danny wound up having major heart issues and had bypass surgery. Came back from that and is still in good shape.

In several articles that covered the 92 USAs it was said that it was argued whether he should have won the overall over Flex Wheeler.

man that pic brings me back to some great times, i miss those days
-
I lived in north Jersey when bodybuilding exploded in the late 70's and 80's. I remember hitting the clubs with my buds who were all bouncers and competing bodybuilders. I remember how bodybuilding gyms had very few female members. If there was one or two it was such a rare thing. Guys turned to horse steroids back in the day like Winstrol-V and Equipose. Guys were always making horse noises in between sets. The gyms had no cardio equipment and was filled with serious trainers. The vibe was intense. Now we have Planet Fitness. I will say this, most gyms by me women out number the men now.

When he didn't get a enough points at a contest in 96---where Nasser, Milos and others were, he kinda flamed out. He was more balanced than Lee Priest, but didn't have Lee's huge arms.

Samir beat haney when he won. Dickerson won in 82 and I don't think he competed in 83. or platz
what i'm saying is I think this pic is from 82 when Dickerson won

Not sure what the height qualification is here, but Padilla is a monster. Better than Lewis even, though it's obviously subjective.
Coach a close second.

Some of the clubs were Fire and Ice, Butter fields, Chicago, Soap Factory, Foxes and I can't remember the rest. We also hit places in Manhattan like the Copacabana. Joey's surf club got completely washed out by Storm Sandy. There is nothing left.
My first gym was Atlas in Jersey City. It was on the second floor of a building. Guys put holes in the floor from dead lifting. The owner put carpets to hide the holes. Regulars knew to tread lightly around that area but I will never figure out how new guys didn't break their leg. I bet younger guys could never imagine a hardcore gym like that and the basic somewhat primitive equipment of the day there. I'm sure back then no one then could imagine what modern gyms would look like today. The owner let a basically homeless guy live in the gym and he was the kind heart-ed manager. He loved bodybuilding. His living area was such a sorry place. Looked like he slept on a couch that someone threw out and had a hot plate to cook on. Another gym opened near Atlas when that gym closed. A lot of top east coast guys there.
