:o (gyno and all)
Like Flex , came on the scene like a Lion , got complacent and relied to much on his genetics.
-
Boring physique.
-
Looks like from a mid 90s Musclemag.
Probably the coolest pic was him with cornrows in a blue shirt and posing a bicep.
I think Ron took that pic. It was up there with the Sergio pool stick pic.

Yep, that is the one, I think. I just thought that was cool. Like, "this, this is an arm"

Boring physique.
Wish my physique was this boring

One of my favorite pics of Chris , he had it all

looked good there but went to crap quick. it was like his receptors shut down early.

Always an eye for detail, Cormier matches his Nike Aqua Socks with his posing trunks.

lmao I never knew those were Nikes lol
-
Boring physique.
I actually agree with this (somewhat) Chris was huge (saw him in Venice Golds many times) he just didn't have that "freak factor" /any body parts that jumped out at ya......it was like he was almost too symmetrical .....hard to explain
-
lmao I never knew those were Nikes lol
Yep, He has the pair in the lower right hand corner. The pink ones, with the blue accent on the heel.
These were big back in the day, and even spawned copy cats. They were the precursor to the Air Huraches and the Air Prestos.
-
on the way up Chris trained like an animal and was a strong mofo. Success made his ass lazy, and money gave him drug issues, non steroid or well made them worse.
-

Yes...Chris was symmetrical in that he looked like a very muscular human, that happened to be "very muscular". He was the only one that I believe one could visually keep adding weight to him, and he would not look distorted. If he had the chance, I think that he could have come in at 275 and really have given Ronnie a run. Thing is, I think he was punished for that Ahmo Hight situation.
-
Chris is definitely someone who left the sport without reaching his top potential, I think he could have won the O
-
Jason Mathis took those pics. I was there that day training/fucking around with Chris. Jason, Chris and I have been friends for 20 years. Cormier looked crazy but when I clean & jerked 315* for reps with those thick edged iron plates clanking loudly, the crowd went nuts. Cormier inclined 365* x 8 for some solid redemption.
*numbers are close enough considering how long ago it happened.
-
Chris had an excellent physique. I saw him get royally fucked over at the Arnold by a flatter than a pancake Cutler.
EVERYONE thought Chris was the clear winner except for the judges.
-
:o
-
When he was on, which was most of the time, Cormier was literally prefect. Perfectly proportioned, including overall muscle mass. But it seems
you have to have some freaky body part to make an impression on the judges. When everything flows together perfectly you seem to lose
the "wow" factor" in many judge's eye. And of course he was competing at a time when the line up was stacked to the gills. Anyone one of the top five from that era would wipe the floor with the current crop we have now.
-
Great mass and symmetry
-
Would be great to have Flex's b&w stripes training singlet.

at the time, people considered that to be perfection.
Now that we've seen Phil Heath onstage, we realize Cormier was not quite perfect. Good, but not perfection.

given cormier's reputation this is one homo post :D

That's exactly what I was getting at.

Here it is again, and Flex's infamous blown up calves
(http://www.bodybuilding-pics.com/44/images/Flex_Wheeler_197.jpg)
-
All oil, but they looked good and suited his structure, just looked like blobs when he was lean.
-
:o
For all those who claim he peaked in the early-mid 1990 (around the time of the 1994 Arnold classic), just need to look at these late 90's pics of him that ND posted. He's light years better than he was in the early-mid 1990's, also quite a bit heavier on the scale (About 260-265 if I'm not mistaken).
-
Chris Cormier
-
All esiclene, but they looked good and suited his structure, just looked like blobs when he was lean.
fixed...for 90s relevancy.
-
Chris Cormier
Looks healthy, but he needs to find a smaller pair of pants. Funny how he got listings anywhere from 5'9 to 5'11". Looks pretty damn short there (of course not knowing the height of the guy beside him).
-

he is kinda short.
I'm 6ft. I'd put him at 5'9", 5'9.75" at most.
-

chris was probably the least likely to have relied on drugs (in his 'generation').
and I dunno how u say he went to crap quick... he made steady improvements until the early 2000's. even when his arms were covered in tracks, it never translated to his physique.

Chris was two times the bber Phil could ever be mr O or not
-
Great bodybuilder.....almost flawless build and no OUTSTANDING/FREAKY/OUT OF PROPORTION bodyparts is the way it should be........harmonious flowing symmetry.........a forgotten aspect of bodybuilding these days. :(

:o (gyno and all)
I see a little Oliva in here.

Boring physique.
Wish my physique is 'boring' like this...

chris got caught up to hard in the crazy 90,s drug scene(exctasy) and other crap and spent more time in night clubs then in the gym, wasted potential cause he coulda been much better imo

dude had perfect porportions. and he came in super dry a few times...dude was the epitome of bodybuilding.
-
He got beautifully fucked at the 99 'O. Oil leaking Flex placing second was ridiculous. Had he maintained that shape, he could have won in 2001 (his 99 showing is better than Cutler's 2001). And he was clearly better than 2000 and 2002 Levrone. Too bad he was a party animal.

Looked like a jacked up black version of Bob Paris there.
-
He was listed as 5'10.
He was listed as 5'9", 5'10" and 5'11". His 1994 Arnold showing had him at 5'9".
Flex was listed as 5'8", 5'9", 5'10", and 5'10.5".
Ronnie was listed as 5'10" and 5'11".
Kevin as 5'9", 5'10" and 6'0" (when he became an "actor")
From my observation, the higher they placed, the taller their listing would get.
-

This is when things started falling apart for him. He lost the mass and his arms began looking suspect.

Bodybuilder height formula:
(L1 + L2 + ... LN) - 2
BbH = -----------------
n
Where each L denotes a lied-about height and n denotes the number of lies.
-
He was listed as 5'10.
Seen him lots of time , looks 5'10

chris got caught up to hard in the crazy 90,s drug scene(exctasy) and other crap and spent more time in night clubs then in the gym, wasted potential cause he coulda been much better imo
I hear this all the time but the guy placed 4x 2nd place at the Arnold , one to Dex which he should have won, twice to cutler he should have won, one to all time one of the best Coleman . Just timing and luck and he looked good in all those shows
I don't buy the whole thing is was lazy, aside from his final shows he always looked real good
-

5X Ironman Invitational winner as well
-
5X Ironman Invitational winner as well
Yep and numerous others too
3rd should have been 2nd to Coleman , wheeler in 99 O
3rd again in 2002
Chris has a better physique than all O competitors competing today aside from Dex, he's in the wrong era of 90's bbin
-
8)
Flawless!
Would win the O now looking like that
This is what top "genetics" + drugs look like
-
Seen him lots of time , looks 5'10
Many 5'9" listings. Not over that.
-
Many 5'9" listings. Not over that.
First time I have ever seen him mentioned was in an Ironman from 1994. They were listing contenders for the 1994 Olympia. They had Cormier listed at 5'10 235. Shawn Ray listed as 5'7 205.
This was the mag that had the coverage for that uear's NOC, which Mike Francois won, Nasser came in second, and John Sherman 3rd.
-
Many 5'9" listings. Not over that.
Who cares about listings when I trained at the same gym as Chris for years and he looked 5'10, not going to argue this homo shit
-
Boring physique.
Another fatty with no muscle critiquing real bodybuilders. Lol - you brush your teeth with the lights off because you can't stomach the sight - but his physique is boring.
-
One of my favorite pics of Chris , he had it all
why did they wear that shit back then
-
Anyone remember the IFBB mandate in 05? No guts, symmetry will be rewarded etc. They were pushing Cormier as a possible Mr O (Ronnie dominated); end result was Cormier came in looking like absolute shit, lowest placing ever.
-
I actually agree with this (somewhat) Chris was huge (saw him in Venice Golds many times) he just didn't have that "freak factor" /any body parts that jumped out at ya......it was like he was almost too symmetrical .....hard to explain
I agree as well. But then was Zane / Paris / leidelmeyer boring? Not to me. Apart from the odd great shot Cormier never interested me at all.

Maybe you misjudged your own height :P

That pic in the OT ... Man, I flipped past it SO many times collecting photos for articles, etc. back when I was an editor at MuscleMag. We had this room with cabinets filled to the tits with file folders of all the bodybuilders, past and present. Each one jammed with shots, etc. for use in the magazine.
Good memory of a time when MMI had much of its original "dream team" employees and things were on an upswing. Johnny Fitness being utterly hilarious ... Bob being the master smartass that he was ... Paul Gardiner managing the store downstairs and plotting his future riches with the sham company MuscleTech ... Kovacs popping in and almost collapsing from climbing the two measly flights of stairs to the offices ... all the fitness "stars" wiggling their bums up and down the hallways (Stacey "Big Boob" Boetto/Lynn, Vickie Pratt, etc.), me getting into physical altercations with members of the art team ...
Now MuscleMag is MuscleMag in name only. :(
Oh, yeah ... Cormier ... Great bodybuilder. Pleasant enough on the phone. His FLEX pictorial featuring him squatting 675 was a bogus deal, for sure. Half reps and obviously limited skillset with the movement. I do remember him calling me and basically begging us not to gab in the gossip section about his fray with that Ahmo chick. Halfways crying.
-
pics at the top of this page are outstanding

I'm not fat and I'm not a pro bodybuilder either. But I can comment on the physique, as I've attended multiple NoCs and a couple Olympias. Cormier's physique was boring by pro standards - no insane conditioning or freaky aspects. Everything was in alignment and symmetrical, yes, but it was boring. Same as Porter Cottrell, Milos, etc...
-

you may be right but I disagree. I never thought he dialed it in often enough. imho, he was more of a hit and miss miss miss hit. never consistent imho. he had the genetics but not the work ethic needed to be a top BB.
-
he's about my height 5'9.5-5'10

I wouldn't say work ethic, everyone's always saying Chris was lazy but I differ. Like I said I've seen Chris train for years in the late 90's and he was a hard trainer, trained heavy, and old school
What more could he have done? Wasn't like he was goin to win the O, 4X runner up at the Arnold, ironman, countless other victories, top 3 at the O a few times in which he should have beaten flex in 99 and another to levrone in 2002 which he should have beaten as well
-
Maybe you misjudged your own height :P
My height is exactly 6'1 and a half barefoot ;D
I'm a lot taller than most bbers

I won't disagree with that. All in all, an in retrospect, I think he wasted his talent for bbing by not being disciplined enough. People bash on Jay a lot and I agree that he didn't train with the ferocious intensity of a Yates or Coleman but the guy was a machine. Not missing workouts and an eating schedule that was always right on the dial. And he wasn't into the party scene with all the rec drugs involve which is death for
any pro bber.

You were Arnold's PEAK height. Today sadly you'd have inches on him.

Yeah Arnold looks to be 5'11 these days, it's like every year he shrinks a bit more :-\
