AS VEGAS -- Indiana Pacers star Paul George suffered an apparent severe lower right leg injury Friday night during the Team USA intrasquad showcase game at UNLV's Thomas & Mack Center.
George's leg landed and then buckled at the base of the basket stanchion after he fouled James Harden on a drive to the basket just 27 seconds into the fourth quarter.

Paul George is taken off the court after suffering a serious leg injury Friday night.
Teammates nearby immediately reacted with Harden doubling over as George recoiled on the baseline.
Medics, U.S. coach Mike Krzyzewski and members of George's family who were at the game rushed to his side.
His right leg was put in an air cast and he was taken to the Hospital for Special Surgery in Las Vegas after being treated for about 15 minutes on the court. His family members accompanied him there.
USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo wouldn't speculate on the severity of the injury afterward.
"We don't know," he said. "Everyone saw what we saw. That's for the medical team to see."
After he left in an ambulance, the rest of the game -- which pitted players in camp for the U.S. as it looks to trim its roster ahead of the FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain that begins Aug. 30 -- was canceled.
The White team led George's Blue team 81-71 at the time.
Reaction to George's injury was immediate, with fellow NBA players, including fellow All-Stars LeBron James and Dwyane Wade, reacting on Twitter:

Crazy. This recent array of gruesome leg breaks has been quite interesting. Kevin Ware, Anderson Silva, Tyrone Spong, and now Paul George. Only thing they have in common is that they have those unusually skinny black man legs. There has got to be some sort of correlation beween these guys. Abnormally low calcium or something?

Its a broken leg people. If Silva can get cleared to leg kick people again, George will be able to run and jump again.
Heat will certainly finish ahead of the Pacers. Sucks that happened, George would of looked good in a Heat uniform in 2016.

still his bones had to be fragilized before it happened, someone said he had several micro fractures that just were a disaster waiting to happen. His body just wasnt tough enough to endure the beating anymore as simple as that.

I think the Olympics should be reserved for college kids, to be honest.
Look at Lebron, it's a miracle he didn't get injured this season. Four years, four finals, with 1 or 2 Olympics squeezed into there. Paul George played a long year and went straight to the Olympics The body needs a break.

NBA season is too long imho.
By the all-star break it's clear which of the 3-4 teams in the league are contenders. The playoffs lineup may not be set yet but that doesn't matter, nobody outside the top teams had a chance with four best-of-seven series to win.
They should shorten it to 60 games or so but that will never happen.
