If the system doesn't use oxygen, why are we winded after a hard set of squats?
Is it because Oxygen is required to remove the lactic acid* buildup?
* From what I've been reading, lately, it's not Lactic Acid, but Hydrogen Ions which cause the acidity.

All acids release hydrogen ions.
