Anyone else grow up reading these fine books?
They beat the beano and the dandy hands down, was always a fine christmas when you got a broons or an oor wullie book.
Still buy them the odd year now but like everythi.g they have gone to shit.

Used to get a Wullie Annual, not the broons though.

Are these actually known in England? ??? :o
I thought they were only sold in Scotland (and appear in the sunday post newspaper since the 1930's I think, I still readthem every sunday morning).

I always got mine from a friend of my dads, think he worked with him, he used to bring me all the books his kids had finished with.

yeah, i was just googling them. wullie does look familiar, but definitely never seen or heard of the broons.

They were always popular here in the north, every newsagents sell the annuals. Still have all mine from growing up as well as a few earlier ones I was handed down and reread them often.
Absolutley love them and will never part with them

Always prefered oor wullie growing up but re reading them I prefer the broons, it alternated annuals each year.

They've been bringing out reprints of classic stories for the past few years.
I got this one in 1996 covering 60 years. It's great seeing how attitudes changed over the years including the war years when Hen and Joe were away in the army fighting Hitler and only came home on leave occasionally.

I got this one in 1996 covering 60 years. It's great seeing how attitudes changed over the years including the war years when Hen and Joe were away in the army fighting Hitler and only came home on leave occasionally.
I got the last one they brought out a few years back with a reprints ranging from the 30s to modern day, even had the warning of how now attitudes have changed and how its no longer appropriate to give a young laddie a clip alang the lug.
The early ones were by far the best.

I grew up reading Tintin in French and English. I don't think that is a British thing tho. IIRC, he's Belgian.
Of course, Cap'n Haddock lived at Marlinspike in the UK, I'm sure of it.

Don't know how I managed to get into it, as it's scottish, but I grew up reading Oor Wullie annuals for years lol.
