Here are some big lifts by sprinters. Notice johnsons no homo 5 plate bob chick box squat. Also noticeable is the british neegal who comfortably cleans 375lbs which is a BIG fckn lift. I believe he wasn't a even a 100m specialist but 200m (could be wrong on that).

Bolt doesn't train for strength. He trains to improve his sprinting. Why would he even risk attempting to squat that kind of weight?
On his heaviest training days, I doubt he goes above the 400-500lb squatting range - similar to almost all elite sprinters.

Obviously Bolt has tendons like steel ropes to be able to accelerate so fast. He is a genetic anomolie. Pushing heavy weight is far less muscle as it is skeletal and tendon strength. Bolt probably has zero endurance but in short bursts is unmatched when it comes to strength. Plus his mind muscle connection is outworldly to be able to tap deep into his body for maximum output. Something most people will never be able to do.

i have seen an offseason McGrath working legs, and now I do not know at all whether he was near his max, he was using 6 plates on each side and STRUGGLING--doing slow reps and he got multiple. but he was not busting them out or anything like that. this is frank mcgrath. not some bolt twink

this is TRUE, seen while working out in boston in 2010, and he was upwards of 300 lbs and a little shorter than me.. i'd guestimate 6 foot range. big guy.

On a different topic how many power lifters can squat 700lbs but can't touch the rim of a basketball hoop because they have no power in their legs? Power lifting should be named strength lifting and Olympic lifting should be called power lifting. You would think a middle weight power lifter would be explosive in a sprint but often that's not the case. Even though there is a relationship there is a difference between power and strength. On the other hand Olympic lifters are explosive and can show that in athletic measurements.
In each stride a sprinter is exploding forward. It's best described as jumping forward from step to step.

I haven't competed in 10 years, but when I did I was in a natural federation. SHWs were the only ones breaking 300kg (660lbs) raw. One guy in the under 85kg category was somehow squatting 295kg but that was equipped (single ply or whatever the weakest level of support was).
I myself managed 240kg for 3 reps with knee wraps and a belt at just over 105kg juicing. To add another 100kg to that, for a fairly lanky athlete, at 6ft5 with small enough legs who is "natural" is laughable. 700lbs is 7 plates...and 15kg (35lbs) change. No fucking way.

Which would make a claim of 700lb with sloppy form a legit 500lb in competition form. Now tons of fucks with twink legs are mega squatters, unlike other exercises squats is one that does not go hand and hand with the size of the muscle like other exercises.

I know personally a lot of our top athletes from the 80's,90's and 2000 and can assure you that squatting with 250-300kg./550-660lbs./ was the norm for most of them. I've witnessed it countless times with athletes from different sports. Usually they did a lot of sets of 1-3 reps max/talking about track and field/.

I would never do this quarter rep BS that goes on, however I can hit my ass to the ground with 500lb easily, but I really do not see the big deal with someone grabbing 700lb on a smith machine and going down 5 inches which is more then likely what you would get with 75% of the claims, which wouldn't even translate to him doing a 500lb legit squat

I'm sure Bolt would gladly trade his status as one of the most famous athletes in the world to squat a legit, competition legal, 700 pound squat. That would really be life-changing given how powerlifting is such a lucrative and popular "sport." Maybe he could then go multi-disciplinary and chase multiply bench press championships. That would really help him make a name for himself.

Most all top sprinters squat. Including Bulgarian squats, step-ups and other one legged versions, and with heavy weight. Most all track & field athletics also. Any of their weight programs include heavy ham, lower back work and weighted ab . Ben Johnson was squatting around the 500lb range if I remember correctly, when in was on top of his game (juiced or not)..
Far as Bolt's 700lb squat goes, not likely. Though he may support a loaded bar off a PR...some will do that and take a slight break at the knees.
Back in the 50's the open secret of how the Russians (even the women) dominated so many Olympic events was weight training. American coaches use to think that would cause an athletic to become muscle bound so no such training for them. Those injected sports "vitamin's" given by Russian doctor was maybe the really "big secret", along with weight training, for the Russian athletes.. Funny how the women Russian athletes would grow facial hair, take on masculine qualities and develop a deep voice with these "vitamin" injections.

There are many weightlifters who can squat 320kg at this bodyweight.
That being said it is impossible for him to squat this amount of weight. Strongest sprinter, Harry Aikines-Aryeetey has back squat around 250kg, maybe even less. Strength does not directly translate to power (deadlift vs clean) and has even less carry-over to speed. 200-230kg would be much more believable.

ROFL, what a bunch of rubbish. Moving heavy weight is not about muscle strength? Do you have ANY idea how muscles work? Lemme explain to you, sweetheart. They fucking contract. And that makes your limbs move. Yes, you need strong tendons to not get hurt by big weights. But it's muscles that move big weights. Muscle volume is not the only factor, CNS (being able to use a lot of muscle fibers at the same time) adaptation and mechanics (short legs for squat, long legs for sprint, long arms for deadlift and so on) are also very important for optimal performance.

For anyone who has seen hoy squat 5 plates it was a perfect rep. He has huge legs and track cyclists produce the highest power output of any athletes, over 2200 watts. Adding 2 plates a side for bolt is never going to happen. I can't understand how anyone could believe it. Even a walkout.

This is Chris Hoy squatting, looks like its very hard work for him, there are 4 plates on each side of the bar clearly labelled 20KG on them. That's 180kg. Still good and a lot more than I can do but yet another athlete feeling the need to lie through his teeth. Ive mentioned Mike Tysons 500lb bench press before I believe.

I've trained with top sprinters before. First of all you need to understand how they squat. It's not a full squat by any means (as they don't want a knee injury nor do they need that range of motion).
Flojo was squatting over 300 pounds for reps.
Bolts legs may look skinny but that is in proportion to his long body. Trust me his legs and glutes are fucking strong and powerful. He would definitely be doing reps of sprinters squats at the 400-450 pound range. Possibly more depending on his training cycle. 700 is not out of the question.
