Irish sports ( Gaelic football, hurling etc) are all amateur. Crowds of 85,000 for games, high standard. You play for your county (Ireland has 32 counties - where you were born you play, no exceptions). Great sport, great entertainment.
Means lots of different winners, generally aesthetic play and no hatred between fans.

Your sports leagues are something I can really respect. As a canadian having continental sports leagues dominate things is really fucking lame.
Canada has a massive television sports market, and it all get pissed away on over payed franchises in just a few major cities.

They are great to watch it just gets me they don't cover health insurance. Obv being amateur they all work. One guy wrecked his acl and had to hobble on a building site to feed his family while the GAA (Gaelic Athletic Association) were pulling €3m/game on gate receipts.Keep the game amateur but if you profit from the players take care of them.

It is gaelic football and hurling but they can get an injury eg broken leg, miss work as a builder and get no compo. Meanwhile you have dickheads getting €100k for "whiplash" from being rear ended in a car. I did personal injury law and it made me disillusioned. One guy with a broken neck got nothing, as I advised, another woman got €28k for the "shock" of someone hitting her car.
