Title: Who Is The GOAT?
Post by: Ron Harrigan on August 26, 2014, 08:32:56 PM
Take your pick from this rarefied bracket.

1) Russell (most championships)

2) Chamberlain (most voluminous stats across all categories)

3) Robertson (most career triple-doubles)

4) Abdul-Jabbar (most regular season MVPs and most career points)

5) Jordan (most scoring titles)

Special mention goes to Minute Bol for his Herculean proportions.

Let's see how many he would have scored on Wilt.

You know Wilt averaged 22 points per game in the playoffs right?Back when his opponents were 6'5 white dudes. You know Jordan averaged 33ppg in the playoffs against 7'1 black dudes? You know Jordan has 6 rings? And chamberlain 2?

Russell has almost twice as many rings as Jordan. Kobe and Duncan have 5 rings apiece. What's your point? Wilt could have had 50 points a game for his career if he had wanted to but he backed off in his later years for the sake of the team. And still his overall career stats, especially boards and triple-doubles, crush those of Jordan, who was the focal point of his team's offense his whole career. I hope you aren't saying every guy Jordan played in the playoffs was a 7'1'' black dude. You do know only centres are that tall, don't you?

You're right, no one dominated a team sport like Gretzky...

Google Don Bradman, his batting average of 99.something was a larger difference to his 2nd place in his sport than Gretzkys second place to him on points and assists.lets not forget Gretzky lost twice in the finals while Jordan never lost once he got there.Gretzky also played against some of the worst goalkeepers I've seen (YouTube it) and the guys in the league would literally be out drinking every night.

Ok I stand corrected on Bradman (not a big cricket fan)
If the goalies were so poor during Gretzky's career, why wasn't everyone scoring 50?
Much easier to control (dominate) a game when you play 40 out of 48 minutes as opposed to 24 out of 60...

i grew up watching both gretzky and jordan.

both played the game above a level that everyone else was playing it. both dominated the game to a point where neither sport will ever see another of their kind.

you cant say one was better than the other. both were alone at the top of their games. you cant compare them to each other. they were both as good as it gets, or is ever going to get.

A lot of non sports fans can name several superstar basketball players but most would probably struggle to name any hockey players other than Gretzky.

All this Gretzky talk and no pics of his daughter  :(

I think it's safe to say we'd all rather make out with Gretzky.  :-*

Jordan = superior to his peers athletically

Gretzky = superior to his peers everywhere, but athletically
