This is not about his personal life or the "accusations".
Just look at the mans musical catalogue and global influence.
Nobody comes close.
His greatest hits collections are actually greatest hits :D
My woman nomination: Madonna (no homo)
There is no argument.

Its Elvis to me although MJ did beat his stats but as a cultural figure there is no competition.

YUP. he was something special for sure. He presence made people crumble and cry. it was pretty astonishing to see his affect on otehr humans.
-
I would argue he was a great performer and musician but not a great artist.
-
He was a great performer, talented dancer and an extremely creative individual, but he wasn't really a musician. He was an original singer, too, I might add.
His impact on the world of pop entertainment is arguably greater than any other, saving perhaps, as mentioned, Elvis.
Never was a fan, myself. But I respect his accomplishments.
As far as the whole molestation stuff, none of us know and, seriously, it could equally be a yes or no. Certainly there were scenarios that reek of inappropriateness. Jackson was a messed up guy. No one will ever fully know what lurked deep within his unbalanced mind.

Musical entertainer. He was OCD about having everything perfect in a song, so he is responsible for the quality of his work.
He didn't have to play any instruments. He made sure the people around him had perfect takes though. He was a perfectionist.

MJ was way ahead of his time. I know Romero did a zombie movie in the 60's, but nobody really gave a shit.
Michael Jackson made zombies the theme of Thriller 30 years ago! Nobody has production value like this today.
Even his "throw away songs" are better then many other artist's top hits.
Let's not even get into the Jackson 5 :D

Dude, if you want to roll with The Organization you better start listening to Led Zeppelin and Van Halen.

You and I may be a bit biased in how we perceive the issue. Jackson's career spans our lifetime. We never bore witness to Beatlemania.
