Not necessarily. Depends on the context, as with any word pretty much...Including the N-word. Some people are hyper-sensitive and may find a particular word to be offensive/racist, no matter what the context...Their opinion is irrelevant though.

Me personaly, not offended.
To the contrary, i feel something ourselves as bad asses. Because when we were fighting against USA in WWII, they called us like that.
If US people didnt consider us as a threat, they wouldnt have called us like this.
But, I think that many people dont feel good if some americans call jap to japanese in their face.
More than disrespect, they would take you as a sign of fight.
-
I worked at a place where they called black folk'canadiens'it would be like 'its cause he's a typical canadien'al Sharpton fuk that canadien.mind u i'm from nj not Canada..

Yeah it's a means of being derogatory like some use the word "krauts" to describe the German people , to make it sound offensive. Personally I find it funny!
-
Im a half breed and I have friends that call me a Jap all the time, some call me a kamikazee lol
It is a derogatory term though and if someone I didnt know called me a "Jap" there would defintely be words.
Its like calling a white person a cracker, its meant to be derogatory but i think it depends alot on who you say it to.

There's a growing group of white people who believe the word cracker is empowering for a the white man. I believe the word came from slaves who gave this term to their owners who would "crack a whip" on them.
-
A cracker is someone who cracks his whip when subordinate hebrews need to be put in place, ie someone with authority over owned Hebrews.
It is something to be revered.

I agree, just like kyomu may take pride in the being called a Jap.
Both are derogatory terms though and its probably a best practice to not call anybody them that you dont already know.

Did u personally examine them?

Yeah it's a means of being derogatory like some use the word "krauts" to describe the German people , to make it sound offensive. Personally I find it funny!
1) Berliners/Prussians/Northern Germans look down on Austrians...they are considered drunken party animals...disparaging term... "Schnürschuh"
2)Austrians look down on Berliners/Prussians/Northern germans, they consider them pompous assholes...the disparaging term Austrians have for them is "Piefke"...
3)Berliners/Prussians/Northern germans look down on Bavarians as uncouth hillbillies..disparaging term..."Bazi"
4) Bavarians look down on Berliners/Prussians/Northern Germans...disparaging term...Saupreiß.
Otto Waalkes explains Bavarians.

Yes, definitely. Japanese American civil rights and human rights organizations have campaigned to stop Americans (and any other English-speaking peoples) from using this word because of its racist, insulting, and disrespectful connotation. Americans used "Jap" carelessly, casually, and indiscriminately before, during, and after World War II, with all the negative contexts you could think of (dirty Jap, damn Jap, goddamn Jap, kill the Jap, slap the Jap, etc.), so there has been a drive to stop the usage of this word and to raise Americans' consciousness on the harmful effects of the word "Jap."
The dictionaries are the final arbiter on the usage of words, and here is what they have to say on "Jap."
American Heritage Dictionary: Jap. Offensive Slang. Used as a disparaging term for a person of Japanese birth or descent.
American College Dictionary: Jap. Colloquial and derogatory. Japanese.
Random House Webster's New World Dictionary: Jap. Slang (disparaging and offensive. Japanese
Webster's New World Dictionary: Jap. Short for Japanese: a hostile term.
So there you have it. The word is offensive, derogatory, disparaging, and hostile, according to the dictionaries, so people of goodwill and intelligence know better than to use it.
Random House Webster's New World Dictionary: Jap. Slang (disparaging and offensive). Japanese.
Webster's New World Dictionary: Jap. short for Japanese: a hostile term.
So there you have it. "Jap" is a disparaging, derogatory, offensive, and hostile word, according to the dictionaries; and people of goodwill and intelligence will refrain from using it.
-
Hahaha !!!!! Why are they called " Zipper heads " ?!?! Never heard that before ! :D
-
Jap is pretty abrupt. The properly offensive term is Nip, short for Nipponese.
I heard 'skosh' not long ago, meaning a very small amount. Just a skosh to the left. From Japanese 'sukoshi' (a little bit). US troops brought it back from occupation and it still persists in US English.
