List the pros and cons of building a home gym verses travelling to a gym
No cons to a home gym, except space and money needed up front.

1) No travel time is the big one for me. Lots of my best workout have been done on a lark because of late night boredom.
2) Not having to deal with people. Sure it's great when you've got a bunch of like minded guys pushing each other, but I absolutely love that I don't have to deal with people all the time. No worries about folks banging into you while you're squatting, no having to give advice or take it, etc....

At a home gym you don't even need to use the white towel, you can just have cocks thrust into your mouth.

Cons - Expensive and a pain in the ass to pick up stuff from craigslist to keep it affordable. You need to buy actual gym quality hardware not the home junk and that means buying preowned
Mine is an old gym issue adjustable bench, gym treadmill, dumbbells up to 165lbs , a pre owned gym power rack , 700 lbs of plates and a shrug bar ... and it's already gone over $1000
Getting a freemotion functional trainer and a nautilus leg press to round it out and that will end up costing another 3k
Not cheap
Pros - never having to deal with the Hebrews in the local gym, not getting carjacked in the parking lot, no risk of Obamas sons attacking my wife, not having to drive 30 mins to work out in a gym with actual humans

Just as I'm less productive working from home vs the office, I doubt I would train as hard even with a good home gym.
A gym membership and a home gym would be ideal...

I prefer my home gym. No waiting on equipment. The music is always what I like. I don't like being around people when I train. I'm self motivated to work out hard by myself. I do think the majority of people get the adrenaline pumping being around other people working out. They would hate going into a basement or a garage. I understand and get that.
When I do work out in a commercial gym I do get an energy surge but it only last a couple of weeks before I seek out the solitude of my home gym. Another point there are no personal trainers trying to sign me up interrupting my workout telling me I'm doing something wrong. Getting tired of those low achieving one week internet certificate steroid using clowns . I have plenty to say about their workouts but I don't give advice in a gym unless I'm asked.

Cant get spots at home if you train alone. If you go for a max and fail in the gym there ll always be someone who can save your life

Not a good excuse. Get a rack with safety arms.

If I didn't have my home gym I would only be able to make it to the gym maybe 1 day a week. As it stands now I'm hitting it 2 days on one day off. Most of the time I'm not able to lift till after 8pm. Never had a problem with maxing out alone. Anyone who's ever lifted serious knows how to get out from under a bar anyway.
Pros-
lifting anytime you feel like it.
Listening to your favorite work-out music
Not worrying about picking up a damn staph infection from all the nasty fools who don't wipe down after they use.
Not having to wait on someone to finish their set
Wearing whatever the hell you want to wear and not caring.
etc. etc.
CONS-
Not having access to over a $100,000 dollars worth of equipment for $45 bucks a month.

Exactly. When you have a home gym, one tends to put off and say "I can do it later". But, when you pay for a gym membership, there is an incentative to go...you must "go" to the gym instead of having it right there.

The only reason to work out (oh brother) is to get a pump and stand under perfect lighting catching people staring at you in the mirror.

I know of at least 4 people at my job that pay to go to a gym and go once a month...they're just so busy!!..
Haha my home gym is open 24/7....and my equipment goes around 3 of the four walls ;D

I've been selling home gym equipment for over a decade and its good to have something to keep you in shape when you can't make it to the gym. Naturally, a gym facility is typically going to have more expensive equipment due to the amount of abuse it takes from clients.....this however isn't needed with home equipment. You can get very low priced equipment and be perfectly fine because you're the only person using it.
There are no cons whatsoever to owning a home gym....you should however spend a little extra if you intend it to be your only source of training

Agree - You tend to train harder in a gym environment versus home gym also.

In my case, both of those are untrue.
Plus, I can use chains and chalk and train without a shirt or shoes. I have also been known to fuck my wife on the equipment on occasion also.
The music is always right, the wifi is solid and the widescreen is always on ESPN
And I am in there at 0600.

Listening to your favorite work-out music - Already do, headphones and mp3 player/phone

I wouldn't go to full intensity working out alone at home. Best workouts I ever got was at either Golds Venice, Bevs Francis or Steel Gym because there's so many freaks. I feed off competition

The problem with a home gym, especially if you live in an apt, as I do, is space.
But, in a way, it's a good thing as it forces you to keep things basic, and the limited amount of weights keeps you from going overboard with ego lifting.
For dumbells, I have three fixed, as I hate changing plates.
1 light for warming up.
1 medium for isolation movements
1 heavy for compound movements
