Title: TO YOUNG FOR THE MASTERS ?
Post by: Karl Kox on February 13, 2006, 01:56:22 PM
Dose anyone think that 40 is to young for the masters ? There are guys who are almost 40 and some that already are that could kill in the Masters div. I think it should be 45 or 50.

SORRY BOB

Karl,

Good point but to be honest there are rumblings of the Masters but realistically will it come back? I doubt it. I would love nothing more to see some of the guys from the 80's and 90's make a comeback.

I am salivating at seeing Bob Paris make his debut.....

whats that masters show that Bob Chick is doing thats what made me think of all of this.  I like Bob but I don't think he should be able to compete in that Masters show. It's not fair to all of those old guys

Bob dose that mean you will never compete in the other shows again ?

Must be 50s and over any younger it would not be fair on the older athletes.

When Jan Tana had her Master's show, all over 40 competed together, but then they awarded for over 50 over 60 and so on.

39 is too young for the Masters (I assume you mean the April pro show).  40 is prime time--anyone who's 40 & an IFBB pro can compete.  Unfortunately, that probably means Kenny Jones, but anyone else who will bring it can do well at this show.  It replaces the Masters Olympia, although it's not exactly the same contest.  We have an aging population, & more guys will find themselves competing at the masters level as time goes on.  Right now the masters IFBB pro cards are the only new ones being given to men.  Promoter Gary Udit got 3 new ones approved this last year alone: the card for the masters winner of the North American, a second pro card for the best runner up to the winner at the Masters Nationals (like the USA, which gives 2 cards), & a pro card for the over 60 winner.  Charlie Urrego (60 winner) & Nate Wonsley (best runner up) reportedly got pro cards after the fact when the new cards were approved.

Most pros drop dead at 45.

Cutler has been retired and divorced  for at least 3 years and that photo is from a 12 year old magazine.

You are extremely brave or incredibly dense.  Either way you're playing with fire bringing up these outdated issues.
