getbig car aficianados please chime in

I had both a 993 cab and a 993 turbo( wish I still had it), and currently have a 997 cab...
"Better" does not really apply to the comparison. They are both great, just depends what your wanting. These are just different cars.
Beginning with the obvious, the 993's were the last air cooled 911's. In my opinion they produce a different sound.
My guess is that its more a matter of personal preference and budget. The 997, being newer, feels tighter and there are technological advances . Its also faster, and more expensive. The 993, being the last air cooled 911, seems to hold its value really well-so if you buy one smart, you probably wont lose money.
With the new model recently out, the 997 still has some room to fall, but, by and large, its a fantastic car.
If money is an issue, go with the 993, its cheaper, and in my opinion, a better "investment"...If money is not an issue, go with the 997, just do your research and buy it smart. If this is your first 911, you will be very impressed and happy with either one!
Cheers!

pretty much exactly what I'd have to say.
if you get a 993, change out the suspension if has the original shocks/springs (I believe factory C4S springs are lower by about 30mm). replace the suspension bushings with stiffer ruber.
with the 997, you get all the bells and whistles (i.e. technological advances), and it's gonna have more 'curb appeal'.
plus, I don't believe anybody makes a valve-operated exhaust for the 993, and valvetronic/capristo exhaust's sound fuckin great on 997's... esp the NA's.

thanks for advices guys

you can get the Porsche 993 for less than a vette.
plus, in a vette, people look at you like youre a douchebag.
at least in the 993, you get prestige (that you don't get in a vette)
porsches are 'special'.. vettes are common.
most of us won't be pushing our cars to the limit anymore. I know I won't, even if it was a lambo, so the performance gain you get in a vette (0-60, 1/4 mile, etc...) doesn't mean shit to me. what's more important is comfort, driving experience (sound of a custom exhaust in a 911, esp the water cooled with valvetronic exhausts is f'n great), and reliability.
911 could easily be a daily driver, I dunno if I could see a vette as a daily driver.
plus, the c4 and turbo 911's have rock-solid handling.

Get a 2008 ferrari 430 scuderia

I can only comment on what I know. Since I have never owned either of the two, nor have the knowledge of some of the people who commented, why should I comment? ESF has extensive knowledge of the air cooled 911s, and K1RB has mentioned before that he has owned said Porsches.
What I do know is that the air cooled Porsches right now are going through an explosion as a lot of people are picking them up. This is aided by Magnus Walker and other enthusiast/owners.
I guy I recently talked to just picked up a NSX because of that. He was looking at the NSX or a 964, and he choose the NSX due to the sky rocketing prices, and maintenance.

Just the best car in the world. For many years now. Nothing beats a Porsche.
To compare a Porsche to a Vet is a crime punished by marriage in some country's!

I always thought this is such a beautiful car:

Never cared about 993's tbh
I would get a 996 gt3 or a turbo in a heart beat cause the 996's aren't considered desirable (water cooled ans design was hated by fans) and going for cheap
Besides that u can get all the fun of a cayman S than u do with a 911 not counting gt3's
Cayman S or GTS would be my choice for the money
Nothing beats light weight /mid engine proper lay out

IMO, the NSX is on par with the 993 in terms of reliability and value. the 911 may still have an edge in "prestige" or curb-appeal. both are easy to drive, however the NSX's interior is kinda cheap and reminds you of an Accord/Prelude or something (not that exotics are known for great interiors, see Ferrari 328/348/355... although the carbureted 308's sound f'n beautiful.. and it's old, so it gets a pass)
when I raced Porsche's, I wasn't really a fan. they were a tool that got the job done and got us (the team) and I many trophies and 3 SCCA national championships.. I would've never imagined or desired having a 911 as a daily driver, but more than a decade later I've changed my view 180-degrees.
I'd love to have an NA 933 C4S (white please ;) ) with a widebody, Fabspeed or Tubi full exhaust (unless there's a valvetronic exhaust I'm unaware of), 18x9 and 18x12 ADV wheels, recaro Topline seats in red suede, simple upgraded suspension, and a pioneer avic nav unit.
anyways... I'm rambling... benedryl kicking in. time for bed

You don't know what you're talking about.
I had a 2002 996, and people would stare and mean mug the fuck out of me all the time. Anytime you'd whiz past anyone you'd get middle fingers, headlight flickers, and people would honk.
Now I have a 2007 C6 Vette. People literally give me thumbs up for the same type of driving I used to do. Both cars had exhaust work and were loud. The C6 pretty much has straight pipes with no cats. People try to catch up to me and ask me about the car. The Vette is more fun for throwing you back into your seat, burnouts and donuts & cheap parts. (Can't really do those things in the 911)
Average Joes on the road think of 911s and other European imports as big money, snooty type vehicles. Versus vettes that are American muscle that people like and respect.
I love the INSTANT torque & power of the vette more than the 911. I liked the "special" feeling of the 911 and the handling and driving experience was and is amazing. I prefer the 911 a hair more than the Vette.

"You can get a 993 cheaper than a vette" is retarded. Sure if you're talking about a piece of garbage C4 vette and some high mileage c5s.
The market for 993 has sky rocketed and isn't slowing down yet. Go look on ebay at the prices people are asking and paying for.

What are they going for? I think dude that builds them is like $200k or some shit?
Anyone see what the Singer 911s are going for? $400k and up!
The owner of the company even said they build cars they can't afford themselves.

Some people feel that way. And others feel differently. He has a cult following with that exaggerated widebody look. And just doesn't do Porsches, he has done Nissan S15 Silvia's

I don't, eh?
spoken like a typical vette owner.
I just skimmed through the garbage you typed out, but I do see "vettes are American muscle that people like and respect".
lol... yea, poor dumb, white trash (and middle class) americans who'll never figure out how to OWN a vette (even though most could easily) and who'll be working for somebody else for the rest of their lives until they retire on social security (no IRA) and live on a fixed income and have to sell their car and move into a 600 sq ft 1 bedroom apartment when they're 65yrs old.
i.e. ignorant people favor the vette over a Porsche.
(ignorant, meaning ppl who don't know any better... if they did 'know better', and still chose the vette, then they're just plain stupid)
