Title: 2015 Olympia - Will it be Phil Heath's last show? I think so. 7 Reasons why...
Post by: 240 is Back on September 24, 2014, 06:46:14 AM
There is no question that Phil Heath will be back next year to defend his title.  He wants that 5th one.
Afterwards, it is anyone's guess.
But Phil will not let anyone beat him next year either.

I have a theory that Phil Heath is quietly planning to RETIRE following a WIN at the 2015 Mr. Olympia Contest.
Let me lay out why I think this is the case:

Company change)
Phil took a nice payday and walked away from a steady contract.  The move shocked many, but would make sense if he only planned to compete for one more year.  The steady check would go away anyway - but locking in a nice % of your own company would be a smart move if you planned on doing that full-time, starting in a year.

Aging physique)
His body is showing signs of age/expansion in the BBing era now... it's just science, not a knock on Phil.   Midsection growing, arms shrinking a bit.  It happens.  2011 may have been the best Phil we'll see.

Legacy)
Phil is a huge Michael Jordan fan... No doubt, he reveled in the TWO times Jordan went out on top... then came back past his time for dismal Wizards career.  Most huge MJ fans wish he had left on top.   Phil will never go on that stage if he's getting bested by 5 or 6 guys. He'll retire first.  And comparing 2014 to 2011, he has declined, that's not a knock, that's just the effects of BBing lifestyle.

Health)
Phil's a smart guy.  He knows BBing is a dangerous sport at the top levels, and he's almost 35 and a family man.  He's not a single rock star, willing to ride his body til the wheels fall off.  A decade at the highest level of BBing "supp" use - smart man starts to back off soon.

They caught him)
Kai's right there.   others are close.   If Phil drops off 2%, he can easily lose on any night now.  Phil isn't unbeatable.  You can ask Iris Kyle if they'll give a retiring multi-champion a parting gift title.  They will.  Phil knows he will win in 2015 if he's off yet retiring on top.  Does anyone here think, after seeing the 2014 show, that Phil is unbeatable in 2 years?

Forward-thinking)
Phil was a computer major in college.  He's been on the right side of everything he's done in Bodybuilding.  He arrived, did the right shows, crashed with Jay to learn the top level ropes, entered and won the right hows every year.  Phil doesn't make mistakes.   Phil doesn't do 'trial and error'.  He's a bright dude, and in a sport as competitive and potentially dangerous as BBing, I think Phil's had his eyes on the Exit door, of what's next, since he entered bodybuilding.  Winning the 5th title, retiring to lead his company to the top, it's the right move.

FIVE sounds right)
Strive for five.   Five-time winner.  Phil's Five Titles.  5X Olympia winner.  Nice round number that puts him in the upper echelon of the sport, but also lets him retire at age 35 and able to keep his health, run a company for a decade or two, and maintain sustained income.  Five time winner just sounds[/s] right.

So anyway, that's my guess.  I have no 'inside information'.  Just as a fan, looking at Phil's situation, legacy, position and trying to predict his mindset... and of course, Ron's sly comment above, seeing as Phil would give insiders like Ron the wink and the nod...

I think Phil Heath goes out on top and retires after winning the 2015 Mr. Olympia contest.

Even as a big Bulls fan I thought it was fun seeing Jordan play on the Wizards.  He was still really good at nearly 40 years of age, before he had a knee injury of some sort, and gave some of the young bucks a crack at him.  God himself couldn't have drug those teams to the playoffs.

He's flying to Madrid with all the pros, but unlike the other O winners, he's not doing any Euro grand prix shows.

just hanging out while the others compete.

one thing is for sure

whilst phils body is regressing his head is growing, @ a scary rate

More evidence to support my opinion, that...

Phil gets #5 then retires.  By October 2014, the signs are there.  Phil immediately takes time 'off' following his Olympia win.  it's going to be a heck of a climb to get back 'up' for the 2015 battle.  But like he told Ron, he will do it.  After that?  I'm convinced he retires with five.  Makes perfect sense.  Go out on top.

If Big Ramy"  remains all hype and guys like Dexter and Kai keep coming back, Phil will win few more years.

I mean, is not the 90's bodybuilders Phil is dealing with .  at this point only a serious injury can take him out.

Remember Ronnie managed to tighten up his stomach a bit after he was criticized that year he put on 30? lbs of contest muscle.

I think Phil will make the necessary changes and pull off another 2 sandows if thats what he wants.

This is true, there is no one that could take Phil's place realistically in the next few Olympias. If he wanted too, I think he could get into range to win 7 total, if he really tried, and his body held out. It's a really weak Olympia field right now.

Phil knows how to get contest ready. He has that winning formula the other guys are still trying to figure out.

He wins 2015 for sure. 2016 if he still wants it bad enough.

Michael Jordan...came back past his time for dismal Wizards career.

I've never understood why people say this.  He was literally 40 years old in his last season with the Wizards and was still putting up 20 points a game.  It was fun seeing him play a different position and seeing some of the young bucks get a crack at the guy they grew up idolizing.  Even as a hardcore Bulls fan I thought it was great.

It seems I've already made this post in this thread though.

I don't think phil's all that worried about the other competitors.

I think phil's SMART enough not to be 40 years old and pushing himself to 300 pounds on a narrow frame.  Phil has always been smart, and I'm convinced he has the exit strategy in place to KEEP HIS HEALTH.

he's been running pro 'stacks' since the beginning, and for a decade now.  Ten years of doing that much?  He's a family man, not a druggie drifter like some Pro BBers.  No way he pushes it til kidneys are failing and belly is 45 inches.  Phil's just too smart.

Absolutely agree with 240, but Pet Shop Boys has a point also... Heath needs to look like a complete train wreck for a possible upset against this kind of laughable competition, if he looks like shit his boyfriend Lee Thompson will continue to award him the trophy...

What about Kuclo?   A couple of years ago he was discussed as the next Mr. O.

Also in this era of watching so many top Mr O' degrade into mediocrity...

Ronnie guest posing with a broken hip...

Cutler screaming proffanities at Shawn Ray and returning for a gift 6th, telling tales about biceps strains...

It'd be nice to see a pro dynasty retire on top once again, sail off into the sunset before turning into a 37 year old collection of mushy body parts, bulging belly, head growing, etc.

More and more indicators pointing toward Phil winning #5 and retiring.  Makes sense for so many reasons.

If he retires at 5 wins he will go down as one of the best O:s ever. A very dominant Mr O which we have'nt seen since Haney. A very very smart move that in itself will bring alot of income. I would say go for it. If he gets 6 though he will be considerd as a more deserving mulitple winner than Yates. No torn bodyparts, no "gifts" etc. Will be interesting to see how this goes down!

Who knows if I"m right.   A lot of signs seem to point to it, and his flirting with Ron - he'll be back for the 5th - just sealed it, IMHO.  He'll go out on top.

I've also been saying I think DLB will stop competition this year, most likely after an Arnold win.  New home, probably plans for a massive tour, maybe babies down the line.  She's 31 and the last two years have probably aged her ten years if you look at the pics.  She's smart and they're doing awesome, I think she skates out on top.

Phil could easily go in a different sports direction.
Maybe he'll get involved is some area of pro basketball promo or front office management?

My NBA friends and associates tell me that Phil will be a shoo-in for at least a bench role with an NBA team upon his retirement from professional muscle presentation.  Being a starter is a stretch, but you never know - will all depend upon his determination and dedication.

Plus, Phil has the physical intimidation factor that Shaw lacks.

Phil Heath enters a room, and everyone has to stop and catch their breath.  He blocks doors, knocks over lamps with his wide lats, and has an upper chest shelf you can place a beer glass upon.

Phil OWNS the room, shaw is more of a wallpaper kinda guy.

Family man..

Phil wins #5 and sails off into the sunset.  Are the signs all pointing to it?

Curious to see how the shrimp will look like when the insulin fades away.

Dexter is old as fuck and competes at highest level so why shouldn't Phil do that too?

Aging physique)
His body is showing signs of age/expansion in the BBing era now... it's just science, not a knock on Phil.   Midsection growing, arms shrinking a bit.  It happens.  2011 may have been the best Phil we'll see.

So anyway, that's my guess.  I have no 'inside information'.  Just as a fan, looking at Phil's situation, legacy, position and trying to predict his mindset... and of course, Ron's sly comment above, seeing as Phil would give insiders like Ron the wink and the nod...

I think Phil Heath goes out on top and retires after winning the 2015 Mr. Olympia contest.

We definitely saw these 2 factors at work last night.  Phil's midsection has grown and there's no coming back.  Rhoden or Wolf could take the title and nobody would complain.

I still stand by the belief they give it to him like they did Iris Kyle last year - out of respect for legacy, etc.  But this is it, IMHO.

Prepare for the glorious retirement speech, self-indulgent to a point we've never seen before.

This is his last stand or his next to last stand. His body can't do it anymore

I think he will go on a farewell tour and then call a press conference where he will cry and stomp on all the haters

Company change)
locking in a nice % of your own company would be a smart move if you planned on doing that full-time, starting in a year.

HIS PRODUCT DOES IS NOT SELLING: BODYBUILDING.COM WON'T SELL IT

Aging physique)
His body is showing signs of age/expansion in the BBing era now...

PHIL HEATH IS IN THE PRIME OF MUSCLE MATURITY.

Legacy)
And comparing 2014 to 2011, he has declined, that's not a knock, that's just the effects of BBing lifestyle.

THIS SHOWS WHY HE'S A FAILURE AS A BODYBUILDING PROFESSIONAL, THEY are allowing him to win! I CAN SEE ONE GRACE WIN, BUT HEATH IS NOT SHOWING UP AND SHOWING OUT PHYSICALLY!!!

THIS MEANS THERE IS A DISCONNECT WITH WINNING AND TRAINING.  HE WANTS TO RUN AROUND A WINNER WITHOUT PUTTING IN WORK. THE SAD PART IS THAT HE BEHAVES FROM THE DARKSIDE.

Health)
Phil's a smart guy.  He knows BBing is a dangerous sport at the top levels, and he's almost 35 and a family man.

PHIL IS NO LONGER WITH GIRL WITH CANCER, FIANCE'?  IT WAS A PR STUNT!  HE SHOULD BE PUNISHED BECAUSE OF IT

They caught him)
Kai's right there.   others are close.

ACTUALLY, THEY SURPASSED HIM; WHICH IS WHY HE'S SO INSECURE.  THE FANS HAVE SPOKEN (even tho this backwards board can't see it)

Forward-thinking)
Phil was a computer major in college.  Winning the 5th title, retiring to lead his company to the top, it's the right move.

DID HE GRADUATE?  again, Nobody is buying his product.

FIVE sounds right)

HE WON'T GET IT! unless they allow him to have it.

i think Phil Heath retires after LOSING the 2015 Mr. Olympia contest.

Let us PRAY!!!!
