I see tear gas and protesters. You said Tiananmen Square. That means a military crackdown with tanks. Remember?
-
They'll make a fuss, blow off some steam, get tired, hungry, worn down, then they'll go home.
The Occupy Wall Street crowds did the same things... they are still working and paying their taxes... wage/debt slaves until they die... nothing has changed.

Looks like I've placed my gear order just in time :D

I'm getting bits and pieces of information. Its not good over there guys. I've been there before. Hk is a cool place. They are nice people.

Correction: pre-97 HK was a cool place. It's been fucked in slo-mo since reunification.
-
There are young kids out there. We are talking 12 and 13 year old kids protesting to retain HK's freedoms.

More.

Earlier in the day ... Why won't China just leave HK people alone?
-
China will do whatever they want to because they know the coward in the White House isn't going to say a word, nor is that toothless paper tiger, the "Parliament of Man" (LOL) the UN.
They will grind them all under tank treads because without a strong US, the world is reduced to a Hobbsian nightmare.

The U.S is too busy killing innocent people elsewhere, only feigning an interest in human rights when it suits their geopolitical agendas.

nothing on CNN or Fox yet .
Ron is on Pins and Needles , hoping this doesn't affect the Orange Chicken stock prices

There is a misguided idea that denizens of a country should be allowed to assemble and demand the government change their laws. It doesn't work that way. You're seeing the pussification of America resulting from such principles.

No different from this.

I got a great idea: send those idiots from Ferguson MO over there to help protest. See how china handles their whiny asses

This is relevant to my interests. I personally feel the answer is no.

You do have to love how over-supplied our COPS are in terms of tanks, swat gear as well as armament that was originally intended for the battleground.
Maybe THAT is the reason why the media never show local police teams storming a house as if they were in downtown Kabul. Methinks they do not want people to protest like the people of Hong Kong.

Police are the same the world over. Wait till big brother tells them to quell US protests. Time is coming.

I was there last week with my son who is 12. We were out walking at night and found the protesters, first surrounding police HQ, wanting an explanation as to why a protester got beat up by cops the night before.
Then we walked to the main protest, which was very well organised with a stage and 2 big screens. The protesters were mostly students, hippie types as you would expect. They were very insistent on telling any westerners what the protest was about, asking us to tell the world.
I got the impression that the local business owners and residents had been originally OK with the protest but were now really sick of it and wanted the city to go back to normal. I guess taking 3 times longer to cross the city or get to work is going to wear thin with anyone.
Anyway, here are a couple of pics I took.....

Not easy from going British rule to Chinese rules with all of the different cultures and ideas involved. This type of dealing was going to happen unless China had 'different' guidelines for Hong Kong.
We were there before China took it over, and stayed for three days, going all over. Wonder how much it has changed now...

Least of their problems. HK is an International airport....hub to the Orient. It is so crowded that people damn near sit on each other to take a dump. My brother was stationed there for a year. My late aunt lived there all her life. If/when Ebola pops up there could be bigger problems of quarantine.
Oh, and I lived on the USC campus with my small children during the first L.A. Watts riot. We were three days locked in our apartment. We took turns on the roof locked and loaded to protect our families. The lady across the street was killed by her gardener. It was a race riot. We could have used the extreme force that Ferguson got. Too many lives were lost and businesses torched while waiting 3 days for the Guard to show.
