Anyone who gives a homeless beggar money is a sucker.

The beggars are lazy bums who would rather live off your naivety than work. They con people.

Contrast that with the other homeless people who push carts around collecting recyclables ... its funny how they NEVER ask for money. They work. I give them money all the time even tho they don't ask.

I will usually yell very loudly and rudely at a beggar "WTF you want?" when I see one who spots me yards away and starts coming towards me in the parking lot of my favorite bookstore.

They look at me puzzled and turn away when I reply back from across the parking lot: "Money? Fuck - give ME some money!" to their request for a dollar or two or whatever. Rare for them to see a guy in a suit coming out of a bookstore yelling at them like a loon, I suppose.

The bookstore is in an area that has gone to shit in recent years.

Occasionally one will approach me right outside the bookstore as I'm walking out. They're again puzzled when I calmly respond to their request for money by telling them "No thanks. I'm good."... They clearly don't know how to react to such a response.

No less than six times I have had to tell my naive suburban friends, co-workers and associates not to give money to a person who was obviously working a scam  All of whom were using the same scam.   It was the old, I ran out of gas and I need a couple dollars to get to where I'm going.  Give me your address and I will send the money back.  A sucker is born every minute.

I had a man approach me in the street and ask for money.  I didn't have any cash at the time and I wouldn't have given it to him anyway.  He asked and I told him I didn't have any and he became all indignant like I owed him something. What the fuck is wrong with people.

There was an old black guy in my hometown some 20+ years ago going all over the area late at night doing that while wearing a suit. Claimed to be a preacher just leaving church. I'd always tell him to fuck off.

A buddy of mine who was not as nice as me jumped the old man with another friend of his one night after they'd been drinking and had grown tired of seeing the old crook always begging.

He said the old guy had a couple hundred dollars in ones on him that they split.  ;D

If you'd "give them your address" so they could "send the money back", you'd probably end up getting your house robbed in a day or 2.  ;D

Exactly, I had to explain this fact to a couple of people.  It's amazing how naive people can be.

There's a big difference between the homeless and street punks. With all the cutbacks many of the homeless should really be in hospitals etc...

There's a big difference between someone who's homeless despite their best efforts to the contrary, and someone who's homeless because they're a total fuckup.  Guess which one accounts for 99% of them.

I told a beggar outside a gas station in houston i was a broke college kid and had barely enough cash on my debit card for gas and food for myself and my wife, and the worthless shitbag followed me in thebgas station saying
"nah its ok man just grab me a 20 out da' ATM"

I told him not a fucking chance, that the little money i have is buying my families food, and he still kept following me around badgering me to pull my money out of the ATM for him, no matter how many times i told him to fuck.

Finally, as i was getting back in my car, he started acted like i was such a dick for not giving him any money.

Isn't that a kick in the balls.  What a sense of entitlement.  The guy I was talking about smacked his lips and said, "c'mon man" like I was lying to him.  I told him, really, "you're going to act like that?"  At least give me a made up story.  Geezus, homeboys are even lazy when it comes to making up sob stories. I feel like, at least try to be creative and I might throw you a quarter.

recently a north african scumbag stopped me in the street and told me he needed 4,20€ (like 6+ USD) to buy a phone credits

i looked at him like  ???

then walked away. keep in mind the guy wasnt a hobo just a regular person.

where i live you are always asked for cigarettes, change or whatever by people with no ethics or education

its funny how bums always ask for money yet they can afford cigarettes (which is like 6€ a pack) and alcohol

You've really got to wonder what is going through their heads.  They actually expect you to give them money and are upset when you don't.  They probably know that most white people will give them money just so they go away.

When I was in University in Atlanta, there was a Long John's Silver nearby (go ahead and laugh) and there was always this OMGUgly homeless man there.   I mean the dude and his clothes were basically the same colors, drab brown and green.  Had a beard down to his belt buckle and dreads half way down his back. (This was a white guy too).  You could smell him when you got out of your car from 40 feet away.  Always had a dingy back pack on his back and was always carrying some kind of branch/stick that he picked up.  The branch had to have leaves on it though because he stood there and picked them off by the front door.

Dude NEVER begged though.  But I still thought it was odd the LJS company didn't run him off because he was really a horrible experience to your eyes and nose.  People would give him money at times.  Once some of us were in there eating and he came in, ordered food and put a handful of coins on the counter.  Then took his back pack off and pulled out a stack of banded up money rolls that a bank robber could have retired off.  I mean the bag was just spilling over with tightly banded rolls of bills.  He paid and got his change which was a few one dollar bills.

He took his food to a table and sat there to eat.  He pulled this nasty 5 comp notebook out of his back pack and the change they gave him back, he looked at the serial numbers and then went through his notebook to match them up.  He kept a record of every bill he ever had, the serial number, where he got the bill from, the date he got it, where he spent it, the date he spent it and how many times he received it back later on after spending it.  He noticed us watching him and told us all this.  Amazingly, the dude didn't "sound" homeless.  He had a very intelligent and articulate speech.  Vocabulary was impressive.  But just an EXTREME OCD disorder that made him track money.  It was kind of cool because he had notes where he spent bills 20 years before several states away and they found their way back to him.  I always wondered why no one ever robbed him.  Dude had to have at least 50-60K in that bag.

Sad that some of these people ruin in for others.

1) Never forgot the time that I was sitting in a car waiting for a order to be picked up, when the begger in the middle of the street with a sign kept getting some change. In the 10 minutes I was waiting, a car pulled up, that begger went in, and another came out from the car.  Wow.

2) When we were driving around in years past, we always had extra products in our van (just about to expire). We tend to give them to homeless people who were asking for money. Some were gracious.  But many were like - wtf I can't do anything with this.

So sometimes, you should give, but be wary if you feel like it is a scam.

There was a news story of some begger who would make frequent deposits in the bank.  The teller said he'd go in 3-4 times a day depositing a few hundred at a time.  Dude made about a grand a day.  You think each car gives you a buck here or there it adds up fast.

I used to give people money. Whats a dollar or two to a getbig multimillionaire.  After encountering the same scam, literally word for word, I just refuse to do it anymore.  Something is wrong with our culture when people ask for money and try to make you feel bad for not giving it to them.  This is the behavior of a child who doesn't get the toy he wants.

I simply ignore the beggars who panhandle on the freeway on and off ramps or at intersections. It seems like the most boring thing to do to stand around all day looking for a handout. They are pathetic to me, but not in anyway that makes me feel sorry for them. I think the police chase them away around were I live because you rarely see someone begging and when you do, they are gone pretty quickly.

There is the same story every year of Ladanian Thomlinson who gives out a thousand turkeys at Thanksgiving to the poor.  They showed the line of people waiting and most were staring at their iphones while they wait.

So let me get this straight.  They can afford an iphone and a $100 a month plan for data and voice but can't afford a fucking turkey for Thanksgiving?

Also a few months back saw this homeless scam.  I passed an intersection with a guy holding a sign but tucked behing a big post he had a redd and white backpack, then a few blocks over saw another guy with a sign and had the same red and white backpack then a mile away same shit.  Seemed they were all in on it.

I have also come across one suspicious panhandler and another definite scam:

1) A white woman on the northside of San Antonio has perfected the saddest expression I have ever seen.  She's begged for money for about 4 years in one area.  One day I was driving to lunch and sitting at a stoplight by a Whataburger (burger chain in South Texas).  I see her come out of the side exit of the Whataburger laughing and talking loudly with someone on the inside.  The moment the door shut the sad expression was turned on like a lightswitch and she hit the corner.  Shortly thereafter I didn't see her anymore, but just last week I saw her again.....heavier, different hair color, same sad expression.   Hmmmm?

2) A white man in his late 50s.  Saw him for a few weeks at the same gas station I usually go to for fill-ups.  He'd travel pump to pump and give each person the exact same rehearsed speech about needing money for gas to get to his family....that he was stuck where he was.  At 7AM one morning I gave him a few bucks I had.  That night at about 7PM I was way across town and needed to fill up with gas so I pulled into a station I knew on that side of town.  What do you know?  There he was going pump to pump delivering his rehearsed speech LOL.  A year later I saw him at a different station in another part of town doing the same thing LOL.

Ok, so here I have one potential scam and one definite scam.   Should I not give to anyone else because "hey, it could be a scam"?  LOL, no.  I typically give every bit of cash I have away.  I'll go to ATMs for folks as well if I'm able.  I love being able to give to folks....even if it's just a few bucks.  Yes, there are definite scam artists out there, but there are far, far, far more homeless, helpless, needy, hurting folks.  In the end if I give a scammer a few bucks so what?  It was a few bucks.

It's always about my intentions and their need.  I give to others because they need it more than I do and hopefully I can help meet their need for that day....if I get scammed a time or two so be it.

There are plenty of legitimate charities you could donate your money to which help folks in need. There is no reason to encourage street beggars and panhandlers.
