People just like to hate in Australia i don't really see the problem with him, well compared to every other politician. This country breeds lazy welfare bludgers too much and he wants to stop it, instead of working they spend their time complaining about that.
Australia is only relevant as a country to australians, even though they are blessed with valuable commodities, they cant even afford a decent defence force to defend themselves so they are completely reliant and submissive to others for defence. Putin knows this.
Lazy welfare bludgers who whine about immigrants, without these immigrants improving the petty convict gene pool Australia would be far worse off. Beautiful country, just ugly negative people who feel the same sort of entitlement to welfare and free health care that has brought down europe and is continuing to bankrupt the USA under obama.

Well I thought it was funny and clever at same time.
Middle of nowhere? Maybe a few hundred years ago. Sure it is still around 20 hours flight from Europe but nothing compared to months spent on a boat in past.
There is no other place on this planet I would rather live. And I have seen many places all around the world.

I've been gone 6 years now and still miss it, but it is changing very quickly (I guess everywhere does if you're not there).
Things have become really expensive. I have friends who are pretty much running on a mousewheel just to stay afloat, financially. Their quality of life isn't great.
And as much as I love the aussie personality it really seems like every time I go home, people have become just that little bit more aggro. Idiots on the road who think it's cool to drive aggressively, guys punching on in the middle of the street...I saw 2 fistfights and 2 near accidents caused by road ragers in a week at the start of the year. And I wasn't out much.
And it seems impossible to live a normal life in Australia now without having a fucking smartphone glued to your hands.

It was a metaphor, he is saying he is going to confront the Russian president about his role in the shooting down of flight Flight MH17. He is doing it in defense of the Australian lives lost, hardly an insult. Saying nothing would be an insult.

I am a Putin fan but I do find Abbot's machismo and lack of socially destructive PC refreshing. I'd like to think he and Putin would actually like each other a lot behind closed doors.
