Did he really train that little that he said he did?
I mean 3times/week 1 hour?
I really doubt that. Dorian doesn't look like the man who does things easy. For me it sound more realistic 2hoers/Day 6 times/week...come on he was Mr O...in every other sports athletes trainlike 15-20hours/week. Most kid train like hell the first 5 years in the gym to, like 2hours 6times/week. Constantly torture them self, and they get result to.
And then u get older, train like 3 times/week 1 hour and start to complain about less result and bellyfat...I wonder why!
For me personally. I train 6 days a week now for 2-2.5hours mixed cardio and weightlifting and have never looked as good as I do now, 36 years of age. I have done it for 3 years now. Why...before I had my restday, then cycling came into my world, and the only days to train cycling was on my restdays! I had days I was thinking, this is the last day in my life...I will die of exhaust. But I didn't! It just become easier and easier to maintain that level.
And when watching Ct Fletchers movies on yourtube, I actually start to believe him! People are lazy ass mother fuckers! Tinking 20 minutes is enough! Every person I know who deliver some result who is clean train ALOT.
Have u ever tried to do your arms 4 times/week 1 hour a day for 1 year in a row, for example? I guess you would be pretty amassed by the result! And right now, I think that C T Fletcher is drugfree! He isn't just talking bullshit!

It doesn't require much training for growth when you are using.

There are two ways to train, high volume low intensity or low volume high intensity pick your poison.
-
I've tired both, and I grow better naturally on a very high volume workout.

Yes I think high volume is better for naturals, HIT works better when you are on roids.

I've been a low set to failure guy my whole training life. Arthur Jones and Mentzer were big influences. When ever I try volume I can't stand repeating an exercise over and over again with a moderate weight. I like to do an exercise for one or at the most 2 work sets. It's psychologically appealing to me to work a set to the ragged edge and be done with it. With volume it seems the last set is the one that comes close to failure. Truth be told if you worked a set to true failure at say 10 reps you wouldn't be able to repeat the exercise and get 10 reps again. One question though is intensity the magic bullet to muscle growth? Maybe the secret is a balance of the amount of work (total poundage) and volume. Maybe guys like Arnold and Robby knew exactly what they were doing using what was moderate weight for them training quickly with high sets.
Another thing I lack when I try volume is muscular endurance. Guys that train with low volume often are shocked at their lack of endurance when doing volume. They just run out of gas quick.
How do you volume guys train regarding rest time? Do you use a weight you can repeat with little rest so you can get all those sets in? Last time I tried volume my delt and arm routine it took about 2 hours instead of 45 minutes or so when I do my form of HIT.

Dorian trained much more intensely than his counterparts of the time. Flex Wheeler wishes he'd of had that kind of drive.
-
We all know Dorian trained 4 days a week, not 3.
-
he used just as many sets as other people. watch his video. he does the typical 2-3 "warm up sets" as he calls them, then does 1 set to failure. he claims he just does 1 set of everything. ::) ::) but hes really pyramiding, which is what most people do.

Truth.

Truth.
I just watched his chest training. Did warm up sets as he calls them, then one set to failure. Yet, he tries to convince people he only does 1 set. He does just as many sets as everyone else. I dont understand the need to tell people he only does one set.

uhhh no. He would typically warmup for his first exercise of the workout, then it was one set to failure for everything from then onwards.....
-
i seen him in the gym when i was there and he did about 16 to 20 sets for chest

Kid, the truth is Dorian was a speed freak, and used to gas-up prior to training.
Wheeler, on the other hand, has never so much as smoked weed.
Now you know.

no true'r words have been spoken, thats the only reason flex never got a sandow cause of his lazy training and mcdonalds food

Exactly the opposite of this
-
Exactly the opposite of this
i have to agree, since the recovery abilities of a natural are much lower they cant train as long, juicers can train longer and just as hard and recover
-

You have seriously drank the kool-aid, my friend.
I'm no fan of Wheeler, but at least the dude looks great in retirement. Nearly all of those who criticized Wheeler for being lazy ended up looking like average Joe's post-competition.
The bottom line is you cannot handle your great white hope, your idol, Dorian Yates, being what he actually was: an addict.
-
Exactly the opposite of this
No, many naturals don't train enough. On drugs, all types of training work (of course you have to factor in genetics and how much drugs someone takes).
Of course if you train more then you have to regulate intensity and you can't go crazy with failure training etc.
-
train train train... but nobody talks about cars cars cars.

His back workout in "Blood and Guts" was actually pretty high volume IMO

Never knew that about Dorian. But I can totally see it.

. Exactly, or one moderate set before the working set to set up the neuromuscular groove.

Dorian was Not the only Addict.
HTH.
-
maybe he had better things to do than be at the gym all day ???
-
I think it all comes down to the individual. Whether you're using or not, try one way and if it doesn't seem to be working, try a different method. Everyone is different and pushes themselves differently so blindly following someone else's method seems stupid to me. I'm sure Dorian Yates tried many different things until he found a routine that gave him great results.
-

He never tried to convince people that he only did one set. He always maintained that he did up to three warm-ups on the first exercise and just one warm-up on subsequent exercises, plus the sets to failure. That's what is shown in Blood and Guts.
-
You don't need to do much to break the muscle down once you've been training a few years. You can feel it a lot easier. Especially when you take sets to failure.
People who say Dorian did 16-20 sets have no idea.
-
He trained 3 days a week, but thought the week was 6 days long so actually trained 21 times every 42 days.
