Title: A word regarding identity theft
Post by: OneMoreRep on October 19, 2014, 05:52:18 PM
Everyone,

The practice of impersonating individuals by the use of their pictures and/or real names needs to stop.

This is a serious offense and can lead to lawsuits that can become detrimental to Ron and ultimately our posting experience.

This started with Wes Gasparotto. The individual reached out to us and asked that his name be removed from the forum. Now, we had Alexis Gonzalez and the impersonation through the ENZO handle. Seriously, this is not cool and needs to stop.

Most of the guys being impersonated are NPC competitors that are trying their best to make it within the industry. When you impersonate these individuals and pass your words as theirs, they can get into deep trouble, get terrible placings, not get sponsorship deals and find themselves in serious problems.

Lets be fair folks and stop the nonsense.

Please feel free to discuss and say your part. We'd like to hear your stance on all of this as well.

What if I created a Goodrum mask and body suit and pretended to be him. Would that be okay?

I agree. And here's an old picture of me with a glass almost upside down and part of a thumb raised...I look much better these days.

I totally agree. It's wrong plain and simple. I still don't understand though how it's okay for Chadwick the beta to be able to use a politicians name and her pic and impersonate her. This could upset the real person if someone finds her posts on here etc. It doesn't hurt me as I know it's Chadwick. But I find it hypocritical that it's okay to impersonate someone with a career in politics. I have thought about contacting her so that she was aware of it.

my stance is what it's always been..there are way too many assholes on this site.

i don't envy you guys having to deal with all of the absolute bullshit that goes on here and try to be "fair" about it. unfortunately it doesn't work because the shitheads know they can be the biggest shithead on the planet, and they will more than likely get about ten chances before you ban them.

I'm thinking it's a select few who will not change their behavior, regardless of any pleas and warnings.  Most people here just want to post, joke, read some funny stuff, and take look at some ass.  They log off and that's that.

I can tolerate the shit heads and people I don't like because that's life and getbig allows a lot of freedom of opinion. The loose censorship (moderation) make it better here.

Agree some things off limits like posting personal info, impersonation etc.

Being allowed to be a total asshole is the first line in the getbig constitution though.

just keep it to forum profile and forum public knowledge. Ie dont attack someone's real identity outside what they post here or can be reasonably inferred.

If you are unsure you have same bad habit i have of crowbarring personal stories or experiences into every conversation. I do it in real life to express empathy but it annoys people as it seems narcissistic.

It is ok to be.a passenger sometimes and not everyone cares about you wanting to.be relevant. Again i do the.same thing often just be aware. Why complain to someone unaffected? For her or you?  in this case for you....

It is interesting how sidetracked this thread has become so quickly.

OMR made a good point about a very specific situation where people are pretending to be specific competitive bodybuilders on what is arguably a quasi bodybuilding website. When someone posts a photo, claiming it to be them when indeed it is not, that is a form of identy theft.

Those of you who think this is a big joke, obviously don't give a rip whether it clearly can be problematical for Ron. It is kind of like biting the hand that feeds you.

So, by the criteria laid out by OMR, it's cool if I register an account as "HugeNasser" or "TwirlyMoustacheJoe" right?

Also, what about someone who wants to have his account renamed to Nasser's Soiled Thong? What information must he provide to document his status as a soiled thong previously owned by Nasser? Asking for a friend...

I'm sure you spent all of five minutes on Google but don't rush to take the Bar exam yet.

Said politician would have no claim against the site and Ron under U.S. jurisprudence. And he'd basically have little chance in succeeding in a claim against posters in U.S. courts either. Instead he would probably be stomped and possibly ordered to pay attorney fees.

And if he tried to sue overseas, he wouldn't get very far either at least against a U.S. citizen or entity. Even if he won, under the SPEECH Act (http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/SPEECH_Act), American courts may not enforce foreign defamation judgments unless they are secured using laws that protect freedom of speech at least as well as ours do.

This has been an avxo presentation.

Booty makes a good point. Whoever is using the Mayor of McKay is doing so to try to embarrass Booty and not the mayor. Pretty childish behaviour classified under bullying. Pathetic even for Getbig.

No , she doesn't have a good point. She's an idiot who made yet another thread about her and her petty grievances.  I'm starting to feel bad for her , because even she doesn't realize how dumb she is.

Would be extremely annoying to have to deal with this. My son was carrying his dads wallet with him when he lost it at the movies. My mother inlaw gave it to my son after his dad died. Two years later police officers turned up looking for my late partner. Apparently whoever found my sons wallet had assumed my late partners identity. A death cert resolved it all.

Normal people have common sense.

Come onnnnnn,  it's not THAT much of a stretch to think that "normal people"  would stumble onto getbig,  see "DFord,"  connect it to  the mayor Deidre Commerford,  go through the post history to see if all the posts are about  some town in Australia, determine that it IS, in fact, Deidre, and then ruin her political career.
On the other hand, my username has brought me great  fame and accolades, as "normal people" assume I am an actual lobster, and are then impressed with my ability to (a)type  and (b)lift weights. So what I'm saying here is that dicking around on getbig can really make or break you.

Can we all just agree that this thread took a huge turn for the better when booty pointed out how "normal people" might assume that we actually are what/whoever our screennames assert that we are?

I wonder if she thinks I'm Arnold after winning the 75 Mr O.

Aren't you the " tough guy " who ran from Getbig when Josh threatened you?  ::)

What is that pic suppossed to prove? Normal people know that's a completely different person. Look carefully, one of them is named Groink and the other is named Gigantic Event, therefore they are not the same person.  ;)

Normal people who don't post on getbig and who have no idea of the craziness that goes on here may think it's really her. No normal person would believe that posters such as Enzo would go to the lengths that they do to pretend to be somebody else.

Booty makes a good point. Whoever is using the Mayor of McKay is doing so to try to embarrass Booty and not the mayor. Pretty childish behaviour classified under bullying. Pathetic even for Getbig.

Agreed.  It's basically a threat saying I know where you live and could be on your front door step tomorrow.  Mckay is a small town with less than 90K people and it would take zero effort for Chadwick to find her home address.  It's not cool to threaten a woman like this online.

she was obviously asserting that normal people have no concept of how internet message boards work, have never heard of "screennames,"  and  can't draw the distinction between parody and real life.  One can only assume people have been treating her like a piece of ass just because she is named "booty," and she is GODDAMN SICK OF IT!
As long as we're all (read:Groink, et al) changing handles, booty would like to request "hopeless romantic" or "respectable dame."  Or "PTPS," which is probably the most appropriate.

If they took libel action in uk they would shut down site.

Libel laws there are a joke and abused by rich people like lance Armstrong v the times. Either way, who cares about shitty no name politicians?

Unlikely - unless Ron is based in the UK and runs the site out of UK servers. If he's in the US then no UK court's judgement on defamation would stand in a US court because their laws protecting freedom of speech are basically non-existent and the SPEECH Act would kick in.

Forum shopping allows so many avenues to potential plaintiffs. If I worked in private international law for a firm I would find a way to get jurisdiction in uk. Pretty sure author of la confidential who published in france and specifically not in uk still got sued in uk by lance and they had issues publishing. It was lance's constant threat. Granted gb is not a multinational but jurisdiction is malleable with internet issues.

They can try, but again, enforcing any UK defamation judgement in the US would be all but impossible. I see no credible argument to forum-shop in the UK anyways and the "Defamation Act 2013 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defamation_Act_2013)" passed by the UK parliament should make forum-shopping in the UK almost impossible.

It would either have to be a foreign court with jurisdiction and any decision made there would be disregarded by U.S. courts unless free speech laws were as robust as ours, or the case would have to be brought in the U.S. where it would almost certainly be laughed out-of-court.

Of course, I'm not a lawyer - and even if I were, nobody should take the legal advice I dispensed anonymous and for free on an Internet forum.

Absolute lies and filth YET AGAIN being spread by Bigmc about Groink.

The man (if we can call him that) has made his Getbig carer out of spreading lies about people.

It doesn't matter what I think of the man off the board, but on here he is a total scum bag.

Here is a man who only a week or so ago accused me of sending his info to vince basille ...a total lie.

A man who accused me of being racist to Skorp under a gimmick account (pure utter lies)

Has repeatedly accused me of being gimmicks which I am not and have never been.

I talked to Josh for more than one hour on the phone last night and also communicated with Alex.

NEVER EVER did Groink once tell them to go after Bigmc or his personal info etc.

If anyone wanted that they would have come straight to me.

Just like I never gave out simons info, neither did I ever Bigmc's.

I will fully expose every single one of his lies here until he stops with the smear and slander campaign.

I am willing to go to any lie detector agency he chooses at my own expense and he can ask any question he wants about me

And he must agree to do the same.

We can have the agency post up the results directly to  Ron who can make them public here.

One of my questions to Bigmc will be under lie detector.

"Did you knowing accuse Joon of being racist to skorp under gimmick account when u didn't know it was him and have u ever lied and slandered people on here in order to set them up."

Lets see if the big man agrees to the lie detector test as I have agreed

Or if as usual as we all know he is full of shit.

he thinks because he is friends with OMR he can get away with this bullshit.

The short answer is he can't

Not when I am around.

He doesn't fool me.

He doesn't fool Shizzo

He doesn't fool Wolfox

He doesn't fool Josh

He doesn't fool Alex

and he most certainly does not fool Ron.

Game is up chuckles, u better start behaving yourself from now on and stop with the lies.

Wolfox YOU will know the truth of what happened its ALL on whatsapp and recorded my friend.
