Title: Saved two dogs lives tonight
Post by: The True Adonis on November 20, 2014, 06:09:44 PM
Jezebelle and I were looking for arrowheads deep in the country a few hours ago and we heard an awful sound coming from a house nearby.  We went through the woods to take a look and saw 5 Pitbulls chained up and two had chains wrapped around their necks and legs and were tangled on top of each other.  One was barely breathing.  We were the only people around for miles and nobody was at that house which looked abandoned.  We called Animal Control and the Police and Sheriff.  They had to take bolt cutters to free the animals.  They seized all the animals and an investigation is starting.  May have stumbled on an illegal dog fighting ring/breeding as one dog was pregnant.  The conditions were horrid.  Those dogs would have died tonight.

I will.

The owners of the property were black and I assume they were their dogs.

The conditions were sickening.

I have pictures, but I really do not want to post them.   Plus its an ongoing investigation.

You saved them for 168 hours.  That is how long they have before being put to sleep at the ACC.

If you had brought one or more home with you, you would have really "saved" them.

No.  Thats not how it works or how its going to work.  I asked whats going to happen now.  Most will go up for adoption after investigation and conviction etc..  Plus they were taken to get medical treatment.  If I had taken one, not only would there have been less evidence, the dogs needed proper medical attention.  Plus I did not have bolt cutters with me.  It took some heavy duty ones to free them and they were biting and thrashing from being in pain.

My wife and I decided to adopt another rescue dog today, so we saved one too. She's in Ohio and came from a high-kill shelter in KY. We are getting her in January.

Incorrect.

If you "had" one, there would be no more or no less evidence.  Is the dog disappearing because you have it?  Is having possession going to change the facts of what you found?  Is a judge going to issue a writ for it to appear from the kennel?  So if they are adopted, is that equating into "less evidence" too?

The fact that they were "biting" already shows that they are getting a Below Average evaluation.   ::)  Good luck on adoption there.

Adoption = first they have to make it past their evaluation test and get a release from the ACC to a shelter.  Then the shelter gets the medical treatment they need for them.  Next they have to have sponsors for XXX amount of days.  Sponsors = donations or raised funds/grants.  Next they will either be adopted, put into a foster home, or put to sleep.  That is how it works.  What?  You think the county is going to keep these dogs in board until an investigation is finished?  How long does that take?  Not even considering a trial to where a conviction is reached?  According to your story, there must not have been anyone home when you "discovered" this.  Even if there was, how long is a charge and court trial/plea going to take to be reached?

You obviously have never been to a ACC or shelter before.  Run down there and see what reality is.  That is "how it works" and "how it is going to work".

Or better yet, look up Second Chance Rescue (which I have made over $3000 in donations to this year alone) and find out what happens to pitbulls when they get put into the system.

Thank you.  You will be getting a life that is utterly devoted to you and will give you more unconditional love than you have ever known.  Please be patient the first couple weeks as coming from a shelter is a traumatic experience for most and they are still in their shell  a bit from it.

Respect to you.

Atheism has nothing to do with nihilism, moron.

Its weird how atheism get lumped into together with so many other things. Its a mutually exclusive term from most other terms. Sure, there may be some correlations between atheism and specific ideals/values, but in no way does atheism automatically lead to specific beliefs, ideals or values.

By the way, good job rescuing those dogs.

You generalized when you pretended to know how every county Animal Control operates.

You apparently do not know the difference between ACC and a shelter.  Two completely different things. ACC does not surrender an animal to ANY shelter waiting for it until 7 "stray" days have passed (giving owners time to locate and claim the animal) and a behavior evaluation has been done.

Again, post pics now and then go back in 14 days and take more.  I am sure you will have an excuse on why you can't do one or both of those simple tasks.

I am not bitching at him. If he saved them the way he claimed, good for him.   I am calling bullshit on the fact that he believes that they will be sheltered and boarded simply because they are "evidence".  Not going to happen.  There will be photographic proof but the animals themselves are not going to be trotted out months from now when any type of "trial" or "conviction" takes place.  Good luck believing that.

Hell, if that were the case, unless the ACC or shelter is going to keep them in the exact condition that TA found them in, there is no evidence.
Which why the ACC will conduct a BE and then after 7 days open up the registration to anyone willing to adopt, shelter or foster the animal.

You would be biting too if you had no circulation in your legs because chains were wrapped around them as well as your neck, choking, gasping for breath.  When one moved they would bite because of the extreme pain.

Animal Control said they saw no reason why they could not be adopted out once treated medically and evidence gathered.

San Diego Bully Rescue dba Pit Bull Rescue San Diego is devoted to rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming pit bulls in San Diego area shelters and educating the public on responsible pet ownership.

We are a 100% volunteer run, foster-based non-profit organization (EIN 45-3746757). We do not have a facility as our goal is to have the pit bulls that are in our program live in homes to best determine their fit for future adoption and provide us with the best opportunities to help them be good house pets.

Nothing wrong.  Just pointing out that his faith in ACC isn't what he thinks it is.

BTW - love the posts you are doing in the random pics thread.

But what I do want is for this post to raise awareness as this shit happens EVERYWHERE and if someone sees something, please don`t hesitate to help, or call the police or someone that can help.

You would be biting too if you had no circulation in your legs because chains were wrapped around them as well as your neck, choking, gasping for breath.  When one moved they would bite because of the extreme pain.

Animal Control said they saw no reason why they could not be adopted out once treated medically and evidence gathered.

No, I had a Cheese, Egg and Potato Fritatta with roasted red peppers.

Good stuff, we call them 'Spanish Omlettes' in our house. Usually i'll use Jersey Royals (when they're in season) slice them thinly and saute them in paprika/cayenne and garlic with half an onion and red pepper. Whisk up 4 eggs with some mature cheddar and pour it over the potatoes when they're done. Delicious, especially with a chardonnay or 3.

Lurker, what does a sponsorship to a shelter usually cost, a couple hundred? What if GB took up a collection to get a local pit rescue to go to the ACC and sponsor them out of there. TA could find the local pit shelter and give us the name to directly donate.

I'm in for $50.

It's whatever you and others donate really. Some shelters like Second Chance Rescue, all you have to do is contact them and give them the info of where the dogs are located and the story behind them and they will arrange for a staff member to go there when the hold is up and retrieve them.  Or they will have volunteers who will provide transportation for the animal.  SCR does a LOT of work on breaking down the stereotypes of pitbulls with the public.  (But they do handle other breeds as well).  SCR has saved lives from all over.  They have retrieved dogs from FL, GA, SC, NC, TN, etc.. and placed them in various foster homes in other states.  They have provided medical care for nearly all the ones they have rescued that needed it with their funds and with some vets doing pro bono work.

The most important thing is to get them out of ACC as fast as possible.  The ACC usually decides which ones go on the euth-list based on two factors.  The condition the animal is in and the temperament/attitude of the animal.  (Which directly influences the BE test.)  In many cases this is unfair because the animal winds up in there in less than ideal health and they are often scared/injured/terrified of where they are, the people trying to help them, the other animals there and nonstop noise.  Some are in good shape when they arrive but that quickly changes due to stress or common contagious diseases like kennel cough and mange.  Both which equate into a shorten stay and life for them there.

The two that I support are :

Second Chance Rescue
Hope For Paws

But any shelter out there that is rescuing animals and matching them with fosters or forever homes deserves support.   The facilities of many of these shelters (if they even have one) is very small.  So finding foster parents is very important or having pledges that are enough to pay for boarding until they can find the space or family is crucial.  A lot of people don't understand how fostering a rescue operates.  You ask them and they say things like "oh I don't have time for a dog" or things like that.  Maybe not year around, but a week or two every few months isn't too much to ask for.  Just to find a safe and quiet place for the animal to recover and/or heal so they can have a better chance of being adopted later.

A couple of weeks ago i was hiking trying to find new trails to wheel my Landcruiser when 3 shepperd dogs run into me acting crazy  protecting their sheep. Luckly it was a rocky mountain and i climb a steep rock that the dogs couldn't climb. Since they would not give up on trying to catch me i had to kill one and wound another. The third got away scared, i tryed to kill him too but i am not very good at aiming.

Rustic. It's my family room. It has a big couch, fireplace, pellet stove, library, widescreen, earth tones, wood paneling and wood beam ceilings. Right off the kitchen.

Actually this is always the time of year where I consider a pellet stove, or a full geothermal overhaul.

This is Alli, fostered her for about a day then adopted her.
Abandoned in northern Manitoba, was to be put down until CAARE Rescue saved her.

Trying to get really low body fat at the moment!

I like those Firebirds.  I was talking to Shockwave about the old old ones and the newer ones as I am interested in building something along those lines.  The price for performance in those cars and what you can build a 1000 hp plus car is unmatched.  Not to mention, alot of those standard components on that car hold up.  I like all the models of firebirds.

I have also considered one of these with the Big Firebird on the front.

I am highly considering this one right here if I don`t want to go the build route:
