Title: Josh, I seen your post about your model train
Post by: polychronopolous on November 24, 2014, 09:40:55 AM
Is that something you have been into for awhile now?

If you had unlimited funds what would be your ideal model train layout?

actually I just got into it now as a winter hobby

If I had unlimited funds it would be a mass of mountains, trestles and streams/lakes. Im not much for buildings, I like the nature look.

Josh, do you plan on making a whole set up? Are you doing the miniature trains?

I had a buddy who had an amazing setup about that size except it was basically all urban type environment.

It even had a little red light district.

It's not something that I would ever be into building but they are really cool to look at.

It's amazing how big of an industry model railroading is.  Walthers was a customer of mine at one time.  HUGE warehouse and mfg. operation with everything you can imagine in every scale.  If I remember correctly, they were/are a 3 shift operation.  If you're into railroading, chances are your toys are coming from this place in the hood.

Manny Patinkin {He plays Saul on "Homeland" and Montoya in "The Princess Bride"} has a huge model train set up in his basement.
as he goes along on his continuous building he adds pieces and parts of people and places that are important to him.
his mother loved to cook so he added a diner named after her.....and so on.
I think that's pretty cool.

....Ahh, Josh I don't think that's a good idea for you...you'd probably have dolls tied to the track, broken bridges, trains off the tracks, explosions...

 ;D

Expensive and potentially a life long endeavor continually adding on to a set.

They look beautiful.
It can get ridiculous expensive.  But you can also do a lot yourself, like buildings and landscapes .
Either way its a great hobby for someone that likes to have time to himself.
The video below is the largest Modeltrain in the world from Hamurg (crazy germans). :o Airport lol

It's a great hobby. I wish I had a basement where I could build a setup.

Just so you know, it's Mandy Patinkin, not Manny. He's a good actor with an unusual name.
