Title: Gronkowski is unstoppable
Post by: 240 is Back on November 30, 2014, 02:39:34 PM
What kinda GH turned him from Mr. Glass to Superman out there?

Also, on that last tackle (right outsidethe end zone), the defender dragged his pants down.  Does Gronkowski have a tramp stamp?  Or just ass hair climbing up his back.  Disturbing either way.

His 2011 season was far and away the best season a tight end has ever had.  90 receptions, 1300 yards, 17 touchdowns, AND he was a force when it came to pass- and run-blocking.  Nowadays, the tight ends that put up the kind of receiving numbers he did are basically tall wide receivers, like Julius Thomas.  But none of those guys could block like him.

Look at this chip block on Terrell Suggs, 290-lb man and former DPOY, and watch how it makes him fly.  (Sorry for the corny sound effects)  Unbelievable....

GB Packers did a number on the Patriots yesterday

They squeaked out a win at home, I wouldn't call that "doing a number" on the Pats.

eh - they got to the red zone pretty easily.  Give Pats red zone D credit, but GB moved the ball at will.  Easy dropped pass on the three by Adams? and the game wouldn't have been close.

Agreed. GB was the better team, period. And don't get me started on the homers around here that think that Brady is better than Rogers. Rogers (no homo) was fantastic. No homo.

Pats had a horrible game plan. Bill B lost this game for the Pats. They needed to take the ball out of Rodgers hand by running the ball a lot more. It is amazing that GB dominated the clock but barely beat a lousy game plan by the Pats...Neutral field and Pats will run it down their throats and win by 17 IMOP...

I don't see how the field mattered that much.  Rogers had so much time, which you just can't do.  GB could've won that game by 21+.   It will be a good SB if it happens, though.

NE fans say that now because they just won a bunch of games.   After the first few games this season, a ridiculous amount were calling for him to be traded.

Anyway, back on topic, Gronkowski now hangs out with Bieber, so they're fucked.

Local radio says that BillB is terrified of a QB that can run, so he basically never rushed more than 4 guys and never blitzed. AR had fucking MINUTES on each snap to survey the field. Kudos to the secondary (and Revis, except on THAT FUCKING SLANT AT THE END OF THE HALF).

Rogers was also smart to target Db's like Ryan, Arrington, and Chung.

98% of his pass completions were away from Browner and Revis. Didn't help that Chandler Jones (best pass rusher) was still injured.

I fully believe that the Patriots and Packers are matched equally (slight edge to NE due to Revis and Browner)

It was a matter of playing in Lambeau. I believe the Pats win in New England.

It would make for a very interesting Superbowl on a neutral field.

Why not with eight offensive starters out for the Patriots.  This is not close to the team that started the season.

How is this different than any of the other bullshit calls that are happening in every game.  I am telling you that the refs are in a scam with Draft Kings and Fan Duel.  They are calling back numerous big plays on bullshit late flags on phantom penalties.

Just look at the rise of DF and the rise of penalties.  They correlate perfectly.  The NFL is heading for a big scandal soon when they find out the refs are being paid millions to fix stats for the Daily fantasy leagues.  They'll try their best to cover it up by switching out refs and such quietly.

The big gamblers making all of the millions from the sites.  Apparently 1% of the gamblers make about 90% of the money on these sites.  They are a billion dollar thing now.  It is just too apparent seeing all of the big plays being called back for bullshit calls.  Or big plays being let go when obvious fouls happen.

It was my understanding that those making the money are playing the math game - entering hundreds of entries daily, risking over 100k per day, and covering the field with mathematically driven prediction models.

Paying a ref to call back a TD or something to prevent a certain player from scoring seems like a high risk / low reward to me.

That was a horrible call.  No excuse for that one.

Officiating has been miserable this year.

Boomer's comments.

BOSTON (CBS) — The Patriots suffered their first loss of the season Sunday night, falling to the Denver Broncos 30-24 in overtime.

It was a game that will likely go down as one of the best of the season, but as it seems with every game in the NFL this year, it didn’t come without some controversy regarding the officiating.

While there were no “inadvertent whistles” in this one, there were plenty of flags that left players and fans alike shaking their heads. Two questionable flags hurt the Patriots in the fourth quarter: An offensive pass interference on Rob Gronkowski that negated a 10-yard gain on third-and-5, and a defensive holding on safety Patrick Chung that wiped out a sack for the New England defense that would have had the Broncos facing a third-and-goal from the 15-yard line.

The Patriots were forced to punt a play after Gronkowski’s flag, and the Broncos scored the go-ahead touchdown after Chung’s penalty.

Boomer Esiason of The NFL Today and WFAN joined Toucher & Rich on Monday morning to discuss the Patriots’ loss, and said those questionable calls by the refs spoiled what was an otherwise great game.

“It’s unfortunate because the only way you can beat the Patriots is if you take four of their top offensive players off the field, the officials have their hand in the game, and then you have to have some momentum switch because [Chris Harper] muffs a punt. The officials were calling penalties all over the place, some legit some not so legit. I feel like the officials last night really let the game get out of control. There were questionable calls, especially the offensive pass interference on Gronkowski. The holding in the end zone on Chung was very questionable,” said Boomer. “It seemed liked the entire fourth quarter there was a yellow flag on the field, and when it was thrown it was against the Patriots. The whole thing was spiraling out of control.

ADVERTISING

“Even with all that happen, Tom Brady still got the team back for the game-tying field goal by Gostkowski,” added Boomer, who said Brady played one of his best games of the season despite not having most of his top receivers. “For whatever reason, after the muffed punt, the whole game went south for the Patriots.”

Gronkowski, who appears to be OK after an injury scare late in the game, has been flagged for offensive pass interference  an NFL-high five times this season.

“I don’t know if [those flags are] unfair, but that call last night was ticky tack, as was the call against Chung. You could call these on every single pass play where there’s two players next to each other. You can’t cover a guy in the NFL anymore,” said Boomer. “I don’t want to sit here and cry about the officiating or sound like I’m doing that, but when the game is on the line you have to let them play. You just have to let them play.

“Last night, the game was so choppy because the amount of flags thrown late in the game. It was unfortunate because it was a great football game,” he said.

One solution people have been kicking around is making NFL officials full-time employees of the league, but Boomer doesn’t think that will fix all the issues plaguing refs this season.

“For the most part they do a very good job. If you watch the game in slow motion they make calls that are frustrating, but they are the right calls more often than not,” he said. “The unfortunate thing for these officials is some of these blunders and mixups happen in these high-profile games. We had another issue with the clock last night — they called it an extra timeout [for a Denver injury]. What the ref failed to mention to Tom Brady and the Patriots was they were going to start the clock when they put the ball into play. As [Cris] Collinsworth pointed out last night, the rule book is like the IRS tax book and no one understands it.”

Boomer said he’s also heard of some problems with referees and their boss at the league offices.

“There is a building resentment, I believe, that the referees have towards Dean Blandino, the head of officiating in the NFL offices. The reason is because he is way too open about some of the mistakes that have been made, and he’s trying to hold them accountable by suspending them and taking them off of major games,” said Boomer.

Whenever people bitch about flags, I stop paying attention fast.

Here's the deal. Sure, can flags hurt, yes, but do they keep people from making plays or actually change the outcome of the game? Very rarely.

Look at the exact game game that Boomer is talking about.

They went to OT. The patriots had every opportunity to march down the field.

They did nothing. Then the Broncos came down and took it to the house.

People who complain about flags are only looking at 1 play out of the hundreds that occur and that 1 play MUST be why my team lost.

Such bullshit.

If a bad call leads to a touchdown or stops a drive it's consequential in a close game. I agree with you about the Pats opportunity, however, last week an "inadvertent" whistle stopped a sure touchdown. He's not the only one questioning the officiating this year just look at the call that lost the game for the Lions vs the Seahawks.

No one 'expects" any team to go undefeated in the regular season. Its happened 4 times since 1934.

Miami, Bears twice, '07 Pats.

Losing a few = fine...

The thing that hurts the Pats this year is all (most) of their main weapons are hurt/out. 2nd stringers are in, but that's football.
All teams run into this. All teams run into shit calls/ref's.

Usually, the healthiest (talented) team at year end wins...

No one 'expects" any team to go undefeated in the regular season. Its happened 4 times since 1934.

Miami, Bears twice, '07 Pats.

Losing a few = fine...

You are so right and having eight to ten starters out is not a recipe for a Super Bowl!

Could be a blessing in disguise. The key will be trying to hang on to the number 1 seed in the AFC.

Amendola should be back very soon, and both Edelman and Gronk (assuming no major tears) should both be back for the playoff push.

Hey, and always look on the brightside fellow Pats fans. We are currently the defending champs, and have already had a lifetime worth of success that we have enjoyed.

Beatable? Sure. I never expected them to go undefeated though either.

Losing a few games in the regular season means nothing.

Lol, I played football and baseball in highschool (quit both to get a job) and still play flag football almost every sunday.

I guarantee I am a better athlete than a certain Canadian guy with the receding hairline, ever was.

I was throwing 80mph at 15-16, and still have an absolute cannon for an arm. In fact, I can literally hang (in terms of arm strength) with college and professional quarterbacks.

I also never claimed to have been a bodybuilder, but I have been in really good athletic shape.

Here is a pic of me from around 2011. I was about 175-180 pounds, and remember outlifting my friends in a bench contest
with 135 pounds. Both guys outweighed me by 50+ pounds, but I was able to get 135 for 25 reps.

And you honestly think you look better than me? You look like the lovechild of Tom Arnold and a Treasure Troll.

I never tried lifting for maxes so I'll obviously give you that.

I am a pretty good athlete. Have a great arm and can catch very well. You laugh at flag football, but you would be surprised at how good some of these guys are.

The fact that you honestly think I couldn't get 135 for 1, shows either: You are obviously trolling, or you clearly are delusional.

Where did I ever say that I could play quarterback in the NFL or the NCAA? I simply said I have a very strong arm, that would allow me to throw with same velocity as some of the college and NFL guys.  Meaning if we were in a practice or combine type setting, that I could put some zip into a 20-yard out, or throw a nice post pattern or deep ball.

The definition of an athlete (no matter how great) is that he is able to do things that most normal guys can't. I can hit a baseball/softball better than an average guy. My arm is far stronger than an average guy, and I have great hands (meaning I can catch) compared to an average guy.

Just a few months ago, a bunch of us decided to play some softball. I hadn't swung a bat, hit batting practice, or played the field in 10 plus years, but I easily stood out amongst everyone else.

It's nothing special of course, but that is my definition of an athlete.

And no, I'm not taking the bet. You guys don't have to believe me, it's fine. I am certainly not going to try and track down a radar gun, and other bullshit to prove you guys wrong. Besides, I never made any outlandish claims to begin with.

Having a strong arm is only a part of what makes a quarterback or pitcher good. I never claimed anything other than that.

He'd use any advantage he can get.  If he can get a team to waste time game planning for Gronk even though he knows he won't play it gives the Pats a slight advantage.  Gronk doesn't have a season ending injury so they're saying week to week and he might play, but he also might not play.  This gives an advantage to the Pats in forcing the other team to either try to gameplan for him or not.

The IR is broken down like this in terms of probability...
probable 75%
questionable 50%
doubtful 25%
out 0%

There is no need for trickery. A doubtful guy could play and a probable guy might not.

My first thoughts too. I just heard he's up to 260 already.

Probably the best/most talented at his position ever. Better stats by some, but he was a machine. Let’s see what he has left in the tank.

Tony Gonzales was better, IMO. More durable too. He just doesnt have the wins on his resume that Gronk has.

Good point.  I remember hearing him on EEI describing this stuff and thinking he should have shut it down earlier.

I legit think he's risking his health here.

Not anymore than Ronnie who continues to have surgeries and lifting still

Funny reading through this thread about who's an athlete here. Anyone here ever play on a Division I team for something like baseball, football or track? Anyone ever fight in the ring here in boxing or a true MMA fight?

Yes and I've mentioned it before along with my injuries.
