Columbus police said Sunday a body has been identified as that of missing Ohio State football player Kosta Karageorge, and that he appeared to die as the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Karageorge's body was found in a dumpster. He was identified through tattoos and other identifying marks. A gun was found with the body, according to police.
The senior defensive tackle was last seen at his apartment in Columbus early Wednesday, when his roommates said he left to go on a walk.
"The Ohio State University Department of Athletics was shocked and saddened to learn today of the death of student-athlete Kosta Karageorge, a senior from Columbus," the school said in a statement. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the Karageorge family, and those who knew him, during this most difficult time."
His mother told authorities he has had several concussions and a few spells of being extremely confused. According to a police report, she said Karageorge texted her the morning he disappeared and said, "I am sorry if I am an embarrassment."
Karageorge is a former Buckeyes wrestler who joined the football team as a walk-on this season.
The Buckeyes defeated Michigan on Saturday, 42-28. Defensive lineman Michael Bennett said afterward that Karageorge missed practices and that teammates started getting nervous Thursday.
Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

Man, I just read about he was missing this morning. This is the first I heard he was dead. Sad.

At 22, 6-foot-5, 285 pounds he had serious potential. :'(

I wonder if it was a passive aggressive statement, like "you treated me like garbage, so here I am", or something like that. Certainly, a sad ending.

Greek fella, eh?

Looked like he had an attentive, loving mother he could be proud of.

Unfortunately he's in Canada so it'll be harder for him to find a gun

Probably All over a whore
Parents will try and sue the university and blame on head concussions

It's sad that he he killed himself but that has to be the most considerate suicide ever.

You know I said that exact same thing to my gf. Very sad but he didn't want people to deal with the mess.

Very true.
This concussion/depression/suicide thing is pretty scary. When I was little I smashed my head open and I've had migraines and depression all my life. As an adult I have control over them now, but it scares me to think about having an episode and feeling the same way as these guys. The people that I've known that have taken their lives have all had concussions too. :-\

I played div one college football and already went into that with at least three from thinking I was Evil Kneivel as a kid and hs football (one severe). I had another when I turned 40 from a bike accident.

Did he died? :o ;D
Seriously though, I'm happy that I don't struggle with depression. I've found lots of cognitive techniques to work through stress and curtail the barrage of feelings you get when you're depressed. But it seems like these guys just can't shake it.
I wonder if they took anything like SSRIs or other antidepressants? And I wonder if their GPs or anyone else knew. It's often a silent battle. When I had low points, it would be nothing to think of killing myself. Almost nothing stopped me. When I took SSRIs I was a zombie and always thought about suicide, even though I wasn't depressed (I had numb at that point). This was before black label warnings and I stopped cold turkey and ended up convulsing and probably having minor seizures from withdrawal. Passed out in the bathroom and almost choked on my puke.
Depression is nasty stuff. I'm a huge cynic and a dickhead, but I empathize with people who say they're struggling. This generation is full of pussies, but every now and again someone's legitimately depressed and it's not because they're a pussy. Hopefully the medical community can figure things out so these people can get treated properly.

he should have left a note about where he would be. making his family wonder was torture.
the dumpster was considerate, but extremely sad too.
-
Greek fella, eh?
Yeah he was Greek. Here, many info sites, have his death announce, as they had the news about missing.
RIP

Concussions can cause strange effects on the mind and how it works, some may end up with several and never have any problems ( Troy Aikmen) while other have only a few and end up with permanent memory loss and gaps in there past ( Brett Farve). I've never had a concussion but I have a family history of GAD which by no means is the worst psychological disorder but it can be debilitating, I and my 9 siblings we all refer to it the same way " like running from crazy" and you can never let it sneak up on you.
-
No blame of steroids yet? I'm surprised...
-
he only walked on to football this year. he wasn't a major part of team.
claims concussions came from wrestling. accurate? i wrestled in high school. you wear headgear. you get slapped a lot, and cauliflower ear is very real... but concussions from wrestling?
RIP, but IMO he may have been suffering from depression or something else, hated school, and used concussions as the cop out. He shaved his head recently too... big burly 22 year old with flowing locks suddenly buzzes hair? sounds like mental issues. sad he didn't find help.
