Title: Meeting pros/celebrities
Post by: Nirvana on December 08, 2014, 09:29:51 PM
Anytime someone meets a pro athlete or celebrity the story is always the same "very cool guy, down to earth, nice to talk to, very down to earth".

I wanna know if anyone has ever met a pro or celebrity who was a batshit crazy asshole.

i play parties in naples, FL a lot.... spend time at the top resorts... I see people that I recognize, or those who are obviously famous, but I really don't care enough to chase them down or take selfies, etc.  Half the time, I don't know who it is... some bald tall wide pro athlete with a fine woman on his arms that just looks superhuman fine, always.  They'll have 5 people milling around them with those smile-too-hard looks.  I don't bother.

I suppose if I was in an elevator with Lee Haney or Bob paris, I might chat a bit.   Older retired gents just passing the time.  But chasing one down asking for an autograph?   that's silly.  I'd walk right past a brad pitt.   I might see how much taller I am or see if he "makes a lane" for me, but aside from that, eh, nothing that exciting.

Met Stephen Seagull while out fishing and he was a real prick. I gave him some wrong advices as to hopefully ruin his fishing trip.

When I was working at the ABC entertainment center in 84 I trained Talia Shire (Rockys wife) and she was a raving bitch. So bad I walked away in the middle of the session and gave her to another trainer. When she asked what my problem was I told her because she was a bitch. She was a horrible women.

I've met several and yes most were cool but what stuck out most was how they never look the way you think. Like lead singer of Train lives by my office and I see him at this specialty store once in a while and we chatted while in line and dude is really small guy. For some reason I thought of him being taller.

Anyways, back in the Seattle Supersonic days was at a place near downtown getting my car detailed and when I walked in sitting there was Gary Payton and Shawn Kemp. They asked if I knew a good place to eat and I mentioned I was going to the Pho place a block down so we all went down.

Sitting there looking at the menu Gary would not stop talking about his cash flow and parties he went to and then started to talk shit about the staff. Finally Shaun interrupted his fucking vomit and asked about me and we chatted a bit. Gary would make little giggles and weird sounds and shit and just being plain rude and annoying as shit. Their girls showed up and they were polite (and damn fine btw) and we said our good byes.

Kemp offered to pay for my lunch but I didn't let him...I didn't even ask for an autograph as I was never really the star struck type. I think that's what bugged Gary all along... he wanted me to suck his Dick and beg for his autograph and I barely acknowledged him.

Kemp took my number said I should come through for a bbq ....still awaiting that call ;)

Used to do close protection work for VIPs many moons ago. Met all the Stones, ACDC, Ben Harper, Smashing Pumpkins, MJ, Neil Diamond, Foos, etc etc. All good, Diamond stood out as just a humble and really professional genuinely cool guy. MJ was cool too like a big kid, eccentric for sure and way taller than expected). Carlos Santana, very cool (and an idol of mine anyhow). Worked for some super rich corporate types and political figures. Mostly fine to work for and despite some of them having nasty reputations found them very diff to their media depictions. However did find out that some peeps who had really good press and were apparently the nicest peeps were in fact the shits. One political figure springs to mind (I wont name and who has since fallen from grace) was one of the worst of them. He actually said to me when I very politely asked that he get his chaffeur to move his car two yards 'dont u know who I am' jumped up little prick.

Charity or some type of a make wish foundation.. he was a real nice person to talk and very courteous.. he would buy all types of his own wrestling figures.. this was when Austin 316 was at its peak. he was married to debra at the time and she was a real bitch..

David Robinson used to come by also at least once a month with his kids..
Never saw him buy anything.. and just made a mess.. was a real prick..

i would make a horrible celebrity since im sometimes in a good mood and sometimes im not, so i guess it would be like 50/50 chance which version of me you get  :D chances are if i had people bothering me all the time and you cant sit and have dinner with your girl without people want to take a selfie or even go to the bathroom mood would change from bad to worse pretty quickly...

I have too many to list.  Here's a few....

In 2003 I saw Jodie Foster with her wife at Nate and Al's around the corner from Rodeo Dr.  She was a miserable bitch.  Hideous without makeup, large dark circles under her eyes.

Met Will Smith in a Philly recording studio in the late early 90's.  He was recording the "Summertime" track.  Super nice guy, at least back then he was.

One time during the late 90's I was on a flight from LA to NY.  Right before the plane departed, Sigourney Weaver sat down right down next to me... I almost shat my pants.  She was polite and very cordial with people around her.  When the plane took off she put on her Bose headphones and kept to herself reading a book.

On a flight out of San Diego in 2003 Ladainian Tomlinson was seated directly in front of me with his wife (wearing very large diamonds).  He said nothing the whole flight.  He had the filet for dinner and did not eat the cheesecake.

Met a lot of authors over the years. It'd probably be easier to note the few I haven't met, rather than listing all those I have. All were pleasant, and mostly accommodating. No surprises, there, given that they were selling stuff. Except, for Peter Carey. Bit of a dick.

No stories on Keith - but Stones all seemed like very cool types. All very gentlemanly - Mick Jagger really nice guy. Couldn't fault them.
Keeping in mind I only really had a snapshot of these people - I got to see them interacting with their people etc and on the whole no problems. Didn't see any real diva issues. Michael Jackson's backing group and dancers were very cool - I remember assisting one of his dancers to stretch backstage - she was pretty amazing and she knew it. But no one seemed to have any attitude. His two personal fulltime bodyguards were really cool guys - this was before any of the allegations had come out publicly so he was still the man to me. There was definately something about him - not a big fan but he was 'a legend' in person so I felt quite lucky to get to meet him. I did have a friend who lived with him for about half a year and while she never said anything bad about him she did say (and again before all the bad stuff came out) that he was not the person she thought he was - got a very negative vibe from her - and basically never spoke of him again. But that could be anything - but she was a real genuine person so I'm guessing she saw stuff that didn't sit right - this was in the mid/late 80s.

Met lots of 80s rockers, most were cool, with one exception. My buddies and I were extras in Motley's "Smokin' in the Boys Room" video, so we met all four. Talked to Vince for hours, who was friendly enough, if a little disinterested. He'd just killed his friend, so he was sober and mellow and pretty much just humored us.

Tommy was friendly as hell, but probably high as a kite. Mick said hi then disappeared, but we weren't really interested in Mick. Nikki, though, was an arrogant, dismissive prick. Buddy extended his hand and the fucker just laughed at him, broke my boy's heart.

Did an Mtv interview that same day, going on and on about the fans this, the fans that, all about the fans, etc. Fucking phony.

I've met a lot of famous people over the years and almost all of them were very nice and respectful.  The only guy I can think of that wasn't was NBA player Grant Hill.  He wasn't rude or anything.  He didn't really do anything wrong as such.  I introduced myself to him and told him I really liked his game.  He didn't really respond and he was kind of like yeah, whatever.  Maybe he just hates white people.   :D

Dusty Baker was a dick, too. At least to a persistent nine year-old autograph hound. He was working some chick from the Dodgers' bullpen, and I asked him two or three times, but this was over fifteen/twenty minutes, while I'm missing the game.

Finally says, "Damn, kid," snatches my program, signs, and shoves it back. I shoulda tossed it back at him, but I was too stupid and starstruck to respond accordingly.

Met Brutus the Barber Beefcake when I was 8 at an Auto Show, while he was still a popular Wrestler. I was really nervous and when I got up to him said "hey hows it goin" he didn't look up and just exhaled and said "ok, not bad". But when he was done signing I still nervous I for some reason forgot I didn't give him the sharpie to sign and that it was his, but I went to grab it out of his hand. He looked up and smiled and said 'hey that's my pen'. So for some reason that amused him. I felt like such a tool since that was the first "famous" person I'd ever met.

Years later I worked at a Toys R Us while in high school. Met Niki Taylor and Donnie Whalberg, both nice and polite. Worked at the mall during college and the lead singer from New Found Glory came into the store. He was quiet but the girls he was with kept looking at everyone as if to say "don't you know who this is?".

I have a place in a hotel complex in downtown Vancouver, because the downtown core is quite small, I've met many celebrities.

Springsteen (in Portland after an acoustic show) no joke, he talked to me for about 15 minutes while his guys kept trying to get him to leave.

Pacino- had a couple of beer with him when he was in town. A girlfriend was working on his movie. Al was very shy but nice...he bought.

Jason Statham - didn't know his name, called him transporter guy. He was quite funny. Did couple of shots...I bought.

Brooke Shields...mistook me for someone. Beautiful in person, also very friendly.

Jessica Biel - asked me to take a picture of her and her friend.

Steve Austin - Asked if he could sit with me while watching UFC. Very down to earth.

One I do remember that was pretty neat. Spent the day looking after Vladimir Ashkenzy - my brief was basically to let him have his space and look after him while he was in my town. I'm a bit of a classical music buff so I was pretty overwhelmed - very quiet guy and had a very strong Russian accent so our conversation was a little stilted.
Anyways - he was performing that night and was basically going to practice on the stage in the theatre alone. I was asked to close the door and stand on the outside for about 6 hours. Through the door I could just hear him - and it was breathtaking  - just being able to hear such a master at work. After about an hour he came out and had a quiet walk around and as he went back in I asked if he would mind if I stood inside and listened. Being the virtuoso that he is he could easily have said no - but I thought it was worth a shot. He just looked at me and ushered me in - seemed intensely private and obviously practicing for impending concert really not wanting some douche like myself hanging about. Let me stay for best part of 5 hours. Honestly it was awesome - like being in a masterclass. Not too many people can ever say they've had that experience. Guess that is the closest I've come to being a schmoe!

Actually just thinking on it for a moment. The worst I've dealt with were the media personalities themselves - several very well known interviewers and news type anchor people. Pretty much a common trait amongst them all - thought they had a right to do anything they wanted and seemed to treat common folk with utter contempt or worse, with that exaggerated empathy bs in the spotlight but behind closed doors were just contemptuous unctious pricks.

CHRIS HOLMES..

About ten years ago, his buddy lived behind my apartment in Arcadia, CA. Saw him a few times, then the neighbor introduced me. Dude was a train wreck, total tweeker driving some beat-to-shit old Firebird he was always tearing apart when he was high (meaning day and night, 24/7). After six DUIs, he was real proud of quitting drinking, but he'd obviously just switched to meth.

Signed my WASP CD: "To Ron. Fuck you, asshole!" Dude was skittish as hell and dumb as a rock. Had "Fuck Ni66ers!" painted white across his dashboard. Asked him if he ever worried about getting pulled over by a black cop. "Shit, never thought about it," he said. Didn't remember much about the Lita marriage because he was always plastered. Said Blackie bought all his songwriting credits when he was in a bind, gave him ten grand, which he blew in a weekend. Now, of course, he blames him for being broke. Total white trash.

Auditioned for Motörhead at some point, but Lemmy told him he was too crazy. Can you imagine? Finally, the pool scene from Decline of Western Civilization: The Metal Years. Said he had been up three days straight partying overseas on tour, flew home still drunk. Promised the director beforehand he'd do the scene, and she could only use the house the night he returned. So he had Mom drive him. Hollywood Hills, I think. (It was producer Clive Davis's pad, though the doc made like it was Chris's.) Said the scene pretty much ended his career (whatever was left of it).

Dude was so sketchy and awkward I started going out of my way to avoid him. Tweekers, you know, unf'nbearable company. Anyway, my storage unit got broken into twice, and I'd bet my life it was those two fucks. Chris and Dave, the buddy, fifty-plus unemployed junkies, both of 'em.

They tore down Dave's dump for condos, but I ended up seeing the two a year later at the First Cabin, local bar. He looked healthy, like he quit the dope, and he was drinking Coke. Good for him, but I made sure as hell he didn't see me. Didn't really wanna catch up and all.

Yeah, yeah, too long, didn't read, don't blame ya.

Yep. Couldn't let it go, like he had a gun to his head. Kept asking me if Duren (Lawless's birth name) was Jewish. Had to be a Jew, he thought, with the clever scheming and piles of dough. Ha!

Yeah, don't think he had the potential, honestly. He was truly a stupid man. Braindead IQ. He's living in Europe now (Finland, Sweden, Norway, not sure) and playing again, but his latest is just God awful.

Great story about Chris Holmes. Dear lord. From everything I have read/heard throughout the years, your tale doesn't surprise me, though.

Check out his (fairly recent) music videos on YouTube. SO bad it's frightening.

Like Lars Ulrich (a drummer, I know), his guitar skills have seemingly evaporated (not that he was in a league with guys like DeMartini, Lynch, Beach, Bettencourt, etc.), but yeah, he sounds beyond rusty and his licks are by-the-books crud-blues shit.

Looks like living death, too.

P.S. Speaking of rusted and diminished guitar skills, anyone else massively underwhelmed with Jake. E. Lee's "return"? His new stuff sounds like him, all right, but a hugely rusted and unpolished version. Like he opened his closet one day, saw the one dusty remaining axe in his possession buried under some stinky clothes, and thought, Hey, I got nothing going on and the fans are always chirping about my silence for all these years. I'm going to put together a band and record some tunes!

Not even one day of woodshedding his chops back into a trace of its former glory.

Then he hires that Darren clown (whom I personally know) who used to be the drummer from Harem Scarem as singer ... and proceeds to embarrass himself with shoddy live performances, a craptacular release and a vocalist who is too much a poser/alcoholic to do anything worthwhile ...

Nice move, Jake.  ::)

I can't really tell that Jake's gotten much worse (never been good picking out rusty guitar), but that singer is horrible. Jake shoulda recruited John Corabi, no? Dude can sing and play.

Not at the time. Typical fuck up "victim" mentality. 'That fucker screwed me outta my songs and money!' No, that dude paid you money for your songs. You were the polluted idiot who signed the deal.

Maybe he gets it now, but I really doubt it. Don't think he has the capacity to accept responsibility.

Like I say, I know Darren. He was performing an acoustic thing with a buddy at this bar when he first told me he was flying to Las Vegas to meet with Jake. In that kind of environment, he sounds quite good, but his cheesy stage persona and drinking habits leave him empty on the cool factor.

At that same bar one night, I was taking a leak after we closed (I was a doorman), and in walks a hammered Darren rambling and slurring nonsense. I finish pissing and as I'm washing my hands, Darren starts jumping into the air, swinging for the light fixture. Sure enough he connects and the fancy casing shatters everywhere. The light bulb, too. So we're in pitch darkness and I'm trying to find the door to distance myself from the 'tard ...

When he's sober he is a friendly guy, but when he starts drinking, watch out.

Rode on an elevator once with Lou Ferrigno and he was rude as shit.

It was a packed elevator, so I asked him something in a low voice and he looked at me with this strange face and mumbled out "WAAAAT"?

I then repeated my question 3 more times and he look disturbed and said, "I'm not hearing you".

Fuck, if the guy didn't want to talk, all he had to say was that he wasn't interested.

I meet Ron Avidan in Tampa.  First we were side by side at the urinals, then we chatted a bit at the conclusion of the Tampa Pro.

Ron was a dignified gentleman at the urinals, washing his hands with soap and allowing his hands to dry fully before exiting the restroom.  Surrounded by disgusting Floridians and industry hangers-on who urinated (or worse) then just walked right out of the bathroom, Ron was a standing bastion of cleanliness and hygiene.   I don't think anyone here would be surprised how few people actually wash their hands after using the restroom.  *shaking head*

Later on, we posed for pictures and spoke for a few minutes.  Ron was a class act all the way.  I walk past golf pros, retired hockey players, TNT network actors in Naples, FL all the time and couldn't care less.  I was more irritated than impressed when the dude from "Major Crimes" took so long to order his wine.  But meeting Ron, that was an epic day, no doubt.

i remember watching that PPV but didnt even know who tito was at that point cause he didnt fight until alittle later, ufc 13 i think.to be honest when he was fighting mezger that night i thought guy was tapping out when tito was blasting him with punches on the ground, then the ref restarted it giving guy a chance to recover and tito shot right into a guillotine choke in mezgers guard.if u watch that fight again its pretty evident that guy taps tito 2 times when tito was punching him from the top position

Funny hearing about grown men white knighting celebs. You guys hate it when its to some hot girl at the gym, but see Stallone in the mall and you fags run over and get selfies, talk to them even though you have nothing important to discuss, n other beta shit with them. Its odd

They'll mush their girlfriends faces away just to go over and catch a glimpse at those legendary 28's.

Tito might have even been living on Tanks couch around that time lol. Tank did an interview a few years back (half in the bag) and made hints towards Tito stealing change out of the console of his truck and being an overall reprobate.

Then Ortiz basically adopted or stole Abbotts whole bad boy from Cali schtick.
