Title: Mike Francois: 1995 Arnold Classic
Post by: Parker on December 13, 2014, 07:31:00 AM
Had he not gotten sick, I believe that he may have gone on to become Mr. Olympia.
If not a multi-Arnold Classic winner

true, but he was aesthetically more pleasing than Cutler, and to me, had a better back. He was not flashy, and pretty much had a  similar "no bullshit" approach like Dorian.

He had a lot of potential.

He was awesome, but I don't see him beating Dorian or the other top pros during that time.

I'm not saying he wasn't a great BBer and/or a hard trainer, his overall physique is not very pleasing to me (no homo).  I also admired his no bullshit approach and work ethic.  His deadlifting was insane.

Seem to be much more women in the audience then. 95 was pre-global internet so I guess women didn't realize it was a h0m0 spectacle...

I remember that there were some very impressive pics taken of Francois 6 weeks out from the 1998 ASC.

But within a few weeks... Francois almost died, and did not compete at the Arnold. His career was over.

Mike was great. He has a longer torso but man when he was dialed in he was amazing. Also don't forget how great Nasser was at his peak!

Munzer was also awesome with an amazing combination of size and conditioning!

I think in 95 he nailed it and was just hitting his stride. I believe had he not gotten sick, he would have been more of challenge for Ronnie---as Francois had a  similar training philosophy of the basic exercises and deadlifts. Whereas Flex over compensated with synthol, Francois would have grit his teeth and got thicker.

That was the peak of bodybuilding IMO.

He had a look that I actually aspired to, and an overall height / structure and training philosophy that was similar to mine.

Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) for me, my genetics are quite average and I had no intention of juicing like that, so I never have been able to look like that.  :-\

A couple dudes that used to train at gym that I belonged to said that they asked Francois (after a seminar) what steroids were his favorites....

His answer: "Anadrol and Deca"

The thing that strikes me looking at that video is how big Munzer was. I always knew him for his conditioning but I never realised how much size he carried when he was alive.

Besides being freaky huge, he was so dense and rock hard. IDK if that's due to drugs, genes, or some combination of drugs, genes, and heavy training, but he looked like he was carved from steel... while most other guys lacked that extreme density and hardness and were starting to get that puffy, bloated look back then.

Regardless, he inspired me to do lots of heavy pulls, squats, etc - the "hard stuff" that most won't do that at least makes us mere mortals bigger and stronger than average gymrats.

I remember this guy.

He was going to become a priest before devoting his life to bodybuilding  LOL

In a sense, he traded alter boy ass for anadrol........young testes for testosterone......HIV for HGH.....Astroglide for Pro Tan....... A dress for a thong.....
