Well...Obama's ass-kicking of soul crusher continues unabated....he took BOLD ACTION and normalized relations with Cuba,.....something that should have been done a long time ago.....Lets face it,...the sanctions against Cuba simply HAVE NOT WORKED...Cuba didn't collapse as the U.S. and others thought they would...so its much better to end this stupid embargo from another era in our history and move forward..Obama's actions are great because
1. Now Americans can travel to Cuba and spend money there....nothing in the world speaks louder than the American Dollar...LOL..just ask Russia.
2. It helps our businesses because now we can sell things to Cuba...Businesses can make a huge profit because Cuba is only 90 miles away, shipping costs are low.
3. It prevents Russia from re-establishing themselves there which is what Putin was trying to do with his visit there two weeks ago.
4. it will enable the U.S to weaken the regime from within
5. Having an embassy there will allow the U.S to conduct better spy operations and infiltrate the cuban government.
6. Ends the heavy Cuban influence on our Cuban foriegn policy and may make it easier for Dems to continue winning Florida.
you can argue that Obama as president has been the most influential U.S president in terms of changing America and it's direction, in a very long time...at least you can say he has been very very decisive, which for better or worse, people want in their leaders

nothing wrong with changing a policy that has not worked at all....

Why hasn't it worked? Because Obama said so?

its obvious.....Cuba has never changed in all the years that the communist dictatorship has been in charge.....and our businesses have been frozen out of making money there.....we talk to to the North Koreans...why not the Cubans?..besides...because they are only 90 miles away, they will become a colony of ours soon because they want the American Dollar........its the best way to influence them.

You do realize Guantanamo Bay is in Cuba?

You do realize Guantanamo Bay is in Cuba?
I have notice that w 95% of blacks - like Andreisaebtrecipient Option Fail, Benny, etc - they will just repeat mindlessly any nonsense that Obama spouts as if that makes them intelligent. Thankfully McWay is not like that, but its so easy to predict - if Obama says it - you can be your bottom dollar fellow blacks will do the same
-
You do realize Guantanamo Bay is in Cuba?
lol Then there's that.
-
You do realize Guantanamo Bay is in Cuba?
it is...but the military is useless in this sense because we made a vow to the old Soviet Union that we would not invade or harrass the Cubans militarily....it was part of the Cuban Missile Crisis deal.....but with an embassy, we can fill it with spies just like all the other countries do (and us as well).

not true.....only if it makes sense...and Obama with this move is making a lot of sense......we come out on top in this deal....our companies make money, we flood the island with spies...our tourist dollars and travel back and forth will do away with the oppression...Our biggest weapon is our people going over there and talking about what its really like in the United States and the outside world....once the Cubans find out what they've been missing out on, the regime will crumble

We can put spies in an embassy, but not on a military base? Sounds pretty retarded to me.

Those military personnel cannot move freely around the island like embassy and diplomatic personnel can......they are basically stuck there and limited to the base. The cubans watch them day and night.....any military personnel walking around in Havana would be arrested otr harrassed

Exactly, the US already has spies in Cuba......

This Cuban thing isn't going to matter. The country is still repressive and the rules are going to make Cuba Havana 1951...its still going to suck. As far as filling it with spies....you're a friggen idiot. They have nothing worth any extra effort. Its another shithole that will need an overall. Good job Barry...any more smokes sreeens you can put up?

Rand Paul is a 95%er now?
His own words about new Cuban relations = "probably a good idea".

How many Americans died (or wounded) in our conflict with Vietnam... 211,454. We have normal relations with Vietnam.
How many Americans have died in our conflict with Cuba? ::)

President Obama’s announcement that he is reestablishing diplomatic relations with Cuba is not a cause for celebration, and it is not a success for the president. It is a gift for an enemy of the United States and American ideals.
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) expresses his disappointment over President Obama’s initiative to normalize U.S. relations with Cuba during a news conference on Wednesday on Capitol Hill. (J. Scott Applewhite/Associated Press)
The United States can do a lot more for Cuba than Cuba can do for the United States. And what has Cuba done to deserve our recognition? The Castro brothers’ control of the country has ensured that Cuba has been a malignant actor in the region and elsewhere for decades, and that is not changing.
Do we want to encourage other countries to follow in Cuba’s footsteps? To send the message that the United States approves of a dictatorship built on oppression, torture, religious persecution and the deprivation of its citizens? While Obama is at it, why doesn’t he give a shout-out and a hug to Alexander Lukashenko in Belarus and Robert Mugabe in Zimbabwe? What’s the difference?
Many commentators say they do not think the embargo against Cuba has been successful, but the fact is, it has worked. The Castros wanted to remake much of Central and South America in their image, and their revolutionary designs were thwarted as a result of the U.S. embargo. To say otherwise is to ignore history. Breaking the embargo now will just make it easier for a corrupt, repressive regime to stay in power and continue what it has done for the past five decades. As Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) said in his statement reacting to the president’s announcement, “Appeasing the Castro brothers will only cause other tyrants from Caracas to Tehran to Pyongyang to see that they can take advantage of President Obama’s naivete during his final two years in office.”
So why are we rewarding Cuba? Has it released all of its political prisoners? No. Have the Castros announced that they will be holding open elections? No. Is religious freedom just around the corner? No. Nothing has changed in Cuba to warrant Obama’s executive actions. It doesn’t seem like the United States gains anything from capitulating to Cuba. In fact, Obama said that one of the great things about normalizing relations is that Americans will finally “be able to use American credit and debit cards on the island” and that now “we’re significantly increasing the amount of money that can be sent to Cuba.” Seriously? Is that what this is about? Taking American credit cards to Cuba? That may be one of the most unpresidential things I have ever heard a president utter. Why doesn’t Obama encourage Americans to visit the Gulf Coast beaches and boost consumer spending in the U.S. economy instead of boasting about Cuba?
Anyway, Obama’s so-called successes are really adding up. He waived the law and allowed millions of law-breaking illegal immigrants to escape justice through his executive action on immigration. In furtherance of his devotion to the church of climate change, he heralded a new agreement that unilaterally raises Americans’ energy costs while China effectively does nothing. Who wouldn’t want that deal? And now, there’s this breakthrough on Cuba. Who said Obama wouldn’t be effective in his second term?
I guess we shouldn’t be surprised that Obama is the one throwing in the towel and crying uncle on Cuba. I’m sure this will be popular in faculty lounges across the country. But it certainly plays to his leftist stereotype that he is the one to finally embrace the Cuban comrades. And, it feeds every good Republican’s fantasy that Obama keeps a Che beret in his closet next to his Mao jacket.
This entire episode lends itself to ridicule, not just criticism. The damage is done for now, but we can only hope the fawning media coverage doesn’t embolden the president to commit another similar blunder.

Shakur was incarcerated in several prisons in the '70s. She escaped from prison in 1979 and has been living in Cuba in political asylum since 1984. Since May 2, 2005, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has classified her as a domestic terrorist and offered a $1 million reward for assistance in her capture. On May 2, 2013, the FBI added her to the Most Wanted Terrorist List. On the same day, the New Jersey Attorney General offered to match the FBI reward, increasing the total reward for her capture to $2 million.[8] Attempts to extradite her have resulted in letters to the Pope and a Congressional resolution.
In 1998, Shakur referred to herself as a "20th century escaped slave."[9]

Who cares about Cuba?
That island is insignificant. About as insignificant as Haiti.

It was pretty significant in 1962. let some foreign power set up missile silos there, it'll become very important very quickly.
I can hock a loogie and hit cuba from my backyard in Florida (Hi, reality tv star Sarah Palin!) - So yeah, the island is very significant.

Doom agrees. Cuba is insignificant; unless you are from there, Cuba is not on your radar screen. They have no natural resources, intellectual capital, or cultural products of interest to 99.9% of Americans save, perhaps, cigars. That is not a slam against the country it is merely a fact. Americans are more interested in the Bahamas or Jamaica than Cuba. This is very much a "South Florida" story and it will be forgotten by the rest of the country very soon. Bah!

Putin visited Cuba two weeks ago and forgave a massive amount of debt....he was trying to explore if he could use cuba against us again..
We squashed that pretty quickly...just like we have squashed everything he has tried this year

Your sarcasm aside, since you mentioned Palin, you are agreeing with me that the island is not important.
Just look at your post. You had to go back to 1962. Fifty-tow years ago. Thanks for proving my point.

we have rendered it insignificant by keeping it isolated and poor.
Flood them with $USD and open up opportunity there... yikes.
It's a cool location, if they'd just install a nice guy like Jeb to run the place, and turn it into another US state.

Most Cubans are all talk and no action. CUBA LIBRE!! CUBA LIBRE!! Yet, they haven't done anything to accomplish freedom for their "beloved" island.
They are chumps. Like Maduro. They are no threat to America, even if USA floods them with cash. Another Haiti.

Ouch!
I won't claim to have my figure on the pulse of this activity, but it is safe to say those who really care about this have been indirectly visiting and supporting family members on the island for years. If they haven't been doing that, then they don't really care. And posting messages on a message board does not qualify as "caring" or "doing something." :-X

See, this is the problem - you continually underestimate liberals. When Obama won by 80+ electoral votes
Also, you mistakenly believe that you understand what the GOALS of the liberal are. They have 1 goal... Continued control. That's It, coach. They want to stay in power. A good economy and closed border does NOT deliver that. Ask Gore. NO, what keeps dems in power are TWO things - 1) Continued supply of more dem voters (thanks to amnesty, he has 5 million new dem voters) and 2) poverty expansion on a national level (and thanks to the republican 1.1trillion budget, the welfare state continues).
You're incorrect if you think, for a moment, that the goal of libs is to fix anything or improve USA. No, their goal is more voters, and a worse economy - and they're getting both - which ensure libs and lib policy stays in power.
As soon as you stop gloating because "obama isn't reaching his goal of saving economy" and start saying "let's educate people on the benefits of conservatism", you might start making progress. I hear repubs shitting on obama for 8 years now, and never saying anything GOOD about the repub solution to things. And obama won twice. And he'd probably win again, let's be honest here... polling higher than he was in 2012 lol.
Stop underestimating him, dude. Stop misunderstanding his goals. Goals are amesnty and continued welfare state, and he's 2 for 2, thanks to the repubs in congress :(

No u don't your all traitorous running dogs and should be shot.
Until the Castro's are gone the wedge between Cuba and Russia won't be all that much. They can still base there if they wanted to. The average Cuban might side with the US and want more trade and US influence but until the commies are out its not going to be some dramatic thing. This isn't the fall of the Wall.

What the hell are you talking about? Since day one I've always said Obama's sole purpose was to destroy this country and you were one of the one's that basically said I was full of shit. Well, I guess I wasn't so full of shit after all seeing what destruction has been done and more future distruction is on the way.
He's transparent alright, so fucking transparent we can see right through his lying bullshit. The only one's who can't see are the like of who start threads like this. I don't know if you're trolling right now, but you were one of the one's on here that was saying just opposite not too long ago and kissing his ass. I have NEVER misunderstood his goals and spell it out in almost every post I write.

You keep saying obama's goals are to destroy the country (open borders, sink the dollar, make us weak on world stage).
Then you keep saying obama is failing at everything he does.
Seeing as the borders are opening, the dollar is sinking, and we're weak on the world stage... Isn't that the opposite of obama failing? I guess I"m seeing a disconnect here. You say obama has all these terrible goals, and they're happening... but somehow he's failing at the same time? Which is it?

Obama Lies to Cubans, and Exposes His Real Purpose
Flopping Aces ^ | 12-18-14 | James Raider
Posted on December 19, 2014 7:41:43 PM EST by Starman417
President Obama is being applauded by his pandering members of the left's publicity machine for poking a stick in the eye of the GOP and its likely 2016 Presidential candidates. The economic geniuses at the NYT pretend that there is suddenly a long line-up of American corporations running for their executive jets ardently anxious to unwrap the supposed Christmas present being handed to them and awaiting them in Cuba.
We're excited to sell average Cubans a couple of Chevys? Or perhaps three of four Teslas? How? Cubans are broke. Fifty cars were sold in Cuba during the past 6 months. The Castros and the military hold all the money. The Castro family has been filling its personal bank accounts with plunder since the revolution. At the same time it has used government funds to agitate mobs clamoring for communism in Central and South America, to finance and support existing dictatorships, and to finance terrorism against the United States.
The Castros accumulated so much cash offshore in 50 years that now they'll perhaps spend a few of those hard-earned Dollars, (not the "Cuban Convertible Pesos - CUC," or the lowly "Cuban Pesos - CUP") on a tractor or two, . . . umm, oh hang on, America is already a principal supplier of products to Cuba. So what gives? Easy: Banking and credit. The bankers are looking for direct access to the Castro generals, rather than having to circumnavigate around sanctions through European or Canadian banks. While it is entirely possible that Obama is looking for a pretext to close Guantanamo before he leaves office and turn over the land to Castro, the banks don't much care -- they have their eyes on cash.
Increasing "business" and "financial" ties with these military dictators will make these thugs richer, increase their power, broaden their influence, and accomplish absolutely nothing of substance for the Cuban citizenry. We cannot change their mindsets and their ideologies, and certainly cannot change their relationships to the forceful acquisition of personal wealth.
The apologetic MSM is confused, so it pretends that sanctions did not work and therefore any change will be an improvement. The MSM was as surprised as everyone else to Obama's startling Cuba announcement yesterday. The MSM suggests this may have been a move against Putin's plans to establish a base in Cuba -- of course the fact that Putin and his Russia are now in very serious financial trouble with a rubble crashing worse than the price of oil probably means Putin regrets his recent waving of Cuba's $32 billion debt. Putin has more critical problem than placing a base in Cuba. Are we witnessing a race to see who kisses Castro most effectively?
Obama's teleprompter gibberish spewed more inane idiocies which had nothing to do with his real agenda. The confused international community looking for rationale cannot find any because it doesn't understand who and what Obama is, stimulating the guessing to flow in abundance.
Obama claimed of his Castro deal, "Where we disagree, we will raise those differences directly." Really? When? Why were those differences not raised prior to an agreement? Why was there no qui pro quo? Why NOTHING on freedom, on voting, on elections, on release of confiscated property, etc., etc. The speech was full of embarrassing clichés ensuring that we heard Obama believed in motherhood and apple pie, however, he could not help betray his feelings toward America when he told Castro, "Today I want to be honest with you. . . . let us leave behind the legacy of both colonization and communism . . . " There it is. The single most telling word to waft across the airwaves from his teleprompter, "colonization." He continues to harbor the sentiments which drove his father to become an activist against America. In his mind these are two truths, . . . America spreads colonization, while Cuba is a communist nation. He doesn't grasp that only one of those is almost a fact.
