If you die poor or rich makes no difference at the end either for the individual. Bill Gates can't take his money or house or cars with him to his grave now can he? Sure his children / grandchildren will inherit it only to go extinct or be mongralized further down the line. After a few generations his DNA will be diluted out anyway.

i'm far from poor, but I could be a partner in a big law firm in a big city making pretty big money ... but instead I prefer to coast and enjoy a more relaxed lifestyle with plenty of free time.

Not his house. I have a book with photos of his guest house. There'a lot of wood and stone / concrete in this home. And the details are immaculate! There are very few if any public pictures of the interior of the main home.

As a getbigger, I've been a billionare since before I sprouted peach fuzz.

Seriously, I lack the 1000% insane focus needed to grow skill & opportunity.  I spend time on getbig, but usually on phone while goofing with kids or waiting places.  Kids take a TON of time.  My dad was never around when I was little - worked 60+ hours, wine, women, and song.  Disappeared for months and years at a time, had secret families, etc.   I try to be the opposite of that, and there are times when I have to choose - study to improve skills, or kids, and kids usually win out.  Always trying to find the right balance.

Bill Gates and his wife have given more money to charity, the poor, the  needy, and  for medical research than anyone in history. His philanthropic actions and generosity will keep his legacy alive forever.

Now, for extra credit, name one public charity Michael Jordan has ever given money to?

and you're too shortsighted to see that 3'rd world charity is  counterbenefitial.

It will not have them learn to fix their issues on their own. So it's a short term solution that will stagnate them or worse sets them back. For example if you hand out rice and foods, they will never learn argiculture or skills to make money to earn their own food.

So, would the solution be to donate money to teach them how to do this themselves via education and technology? Would you be okay with that?

Serious question.

To a point. My dad had nothing. Born 1949 in ireland google 1950s ireland if you want. Had to take care of family as his dad died when he was 8 or 9. Made millions by himself starting own company. He pisses me off sometimes as he lacks some emotional intelligence but i can never do anything but respect what he did for himself and the opportunities his wealth gave me and my family. He is overly generous to charity too.

However, if he was born in uganda or bangladesh i cant see how he could have got where he did because he wouldnt have education he had... and he had to forego a scholarship to uni due to lack of money.

I know some of them.  I have a brother doing a dime for violent crime.  I have at least 2 that i've never met, one in early 20s, one is 12 or 14 by now.  And there are other question marks that we're not sure on.  my dad was a dog, no other way around it.  He was getting shotgun married the day I was born lol, true story.

bro, you made a nice positive life for yourself for a guy that grew up on the wrong side of the tracks and without (it appears) good male role models.

My wife also had a deadbeat dad with a side family.  I think we both overcompensate to ensure ours never see the kind of crap that we did.  The saddest part is when dad finally settles down and comes home, and the whole guilt thing of "i'm sorry I wasn't there"   Cause all you can say is "that's okay, you're here now", what else can you do?

papa was a rolling stone.  wherever he laid his hat was home.

the rest of my family didn't fare so well.  brother is a recluse hermit with his stack of guns.  sister is angry and unproductive.  I love them both, but it's how they were raised, what they learned.  The half-brother been in and out of prison.  all the cousins in the system now up north.  I'm the only married, only college grad, only one without drug/alcohol problem.  but it's an awesome lesson for my kids/nephews/nieces... you CAN break the shit cycle of drugs, crime and laziness.  You CAN.
