Does anyone here use Linux? I am thinking about using it for getbig (bodybuilding related) 8)

I've tried several distros, but Bodhi Linux is my favorite* so far. CrunchBang is also a good one :)
* easy installation, user friendly interface and a huge package library.

Anytime, just shoot if you have specific questions.

For all my servers, I like Ubuntu, but for a desktop, Ubuntu's disastrous Unity interface is horrible, especially if you are an experienced X user.

Ubuntu has way too much eye candy. I prefer a fast & no-bull interface.
-
Ubunto is still a nice choice imo for beginning Linux users. As you get more comfortable with the concept of using a terminal window you can move on to the more hardcore interfaces.

The server distro doesn't install any window managers. It's all bash and ssh. Its a very solid distro, with a very good installation routine.
Also, any Debian based distros are good. Synaptic > yum all day.
Fir a desktop distro, Mint is very good too.
-
Yes, since around 1996 (Slackware came out in 1993 or so).
Ubuntu seems to be to the "go to" at work lately for servers...

I haven't tried the server edition, but it's understandable from a performance standpoint that it's command line based.
My Bodhi distro is also based on the Synaptic package manager, the best library I've had so far.
I've had problems with installing Mint in the past, but maybe their installation process has been improved.

The funny thing is that since I became a ''GEEK'' no one ever thought I was gay. lol When I was it ''TOP'' shape... everyone thought I was gay. Also, as a geek... it's easier to get girls... because they think that you're always trying to get laid. You know, the stereotype that nerds only think about sex and girls... and jocks think about sports? And how nerds will never turn down a chance. Plus the girls are not scared of you... because they don't feel all self conscious about the guy ''looking'' better. 8) 8)
This geek stuff is the first ''hobby'' that I have felt as good about as bodybuilding. Or is it a sport? lol I don't think so. ;)

Technology is like bodybuilding; it's best not to talk about it (too much), esp with women.

Keeping it bodybuilding related, well known Linux users

Yeah, that's true. Don't talk about it ''too'' much. 8) But at least they wont think ur gay.
They will think you sound like Pat Banya from Seinfeld. That's what we sound like when talking to people about stuff they don't care about.
They would rather gossip about "joe smoe" down the street. ::)

I knew a weasel who after hours at work would go around to desktops with a Linux cd and hack into them. I think they thought it was me and that is why I was laid off in 2007.

Yeah, a simple WIN password changer was on a Linux bootable CD, probably still is, haven't needed it for years...

The only difference is that if you talk tech with a woman, they see "$$$" in your future. That is decidedly NOT the case when you (very) mistakenly discuss bodybuilding with a woman. She may start to notice your muscles, but she sure as fuck isn't seeing dollar signs.

i don't know why you would use linux on your personal computer, unless you have unusual needs
update after reading thread:
depending on what you want to do, you can pay like $5 a month and rent part of a server (digitalocean.com)
then its easy to try out different distributions, break things, etc. however, not as good for very low level stuff.

Why wouldn't you want Linux on your personal computer? If compatibility is an issue, run Linux on boot with a memory stick.

Yep ubuntu, it's very easy. Very very easy!!
I am studying linux now though... but keep getting distracted. :-\
I want linux because I want to work in the IT field. The colleges teach linux and say it's used in business. So it's for education and practice/training.

I just forced myself the hard way back in the mid 90's. I deleted my Windows installation and installed Slackware. Everything was a little weird, but I got around OK.
These days, if you can find a browser (porn) and video replay software (porn) and some image editing software (porn with me in it), you are G2G.

I would like a Linux "distro" that is small and of course minimalistic. Only thing I really need is a C compiler and maybe the most basic desktop interface.
Thor-vald reminds me of Harry Potter and Arnold Schwarzenegger when he was pregnant in Junior.
Btw, Linus used to be 320, including 2 pack, when he developed the original Linux kernel... code named Nasser1337 - legendary repetitions were made in the inner loops.

I was headed here...
There's also Tails, a secure Linux distro made for thumb drives.

My xbox apple can look at porn fast

Thanks DP!
It has TCC and looks promising overall.
I'll probably need to peek into a good book to get a feel for it.
p.s.: If all fails I'll just sue Linus and cash in da millions. Thanks Obama! :D

You're welcome, this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_Linux_distributions) Wiki page was of great help once I've realized how many Linux distros were available.
