Title: Stress - Any tips, training info and dietary advise on dealing with it
Post by: DanielPaul on December 23, 2014, 06:13:52 AM
From a man in his mid thirties to a man at the peak of life what tips, training info and dietary advise as well as issues dealing with the everyday stress of life can you give to a younger man to aid in a successful non professional bodybuilding lifestyle?  If you find time give us an updated pic as well ( no homo).

No pics, because I haven`t trained in months and months.................. .way too long.

One thing I`d advise is to never have aspirations of competing.........total waste of time.

Lots of ridiculous sacrifices needed, way too much money, and if you haven`t got the cash to buy truckloads of drugs, then regardless of how dedicated you are,you ain`t gonna` win jackshit............plus nobody gives two fucks if you do anyway.  :(

Trainingwise, get in,train your balls off and get out.

No wasted socializing during the workout

Very brief rest periods

Do something different daily, but keep the same weekly bodypart schedule

Mix up rep ranges, but never go below 5-6 reps and these should only be done occasionally if ever as far as hypertrophy is concerned anyway

No comfort zones..........challenge yourself at every session

Good examlpes of challenging yourself aside from adding weight to the bar would be to use the following intensity techniques.........these should be mixed up weekly or according to how you feel daily:

Super-Sets
Giant-Sets
Drop-Sets
Tri-Sets
Running The Rack (both up and down,or one or the other)
Try to beat the clock by getting the most work done in the shortest amount of time
Pre-Exhaust
Ladder Sets (done my way, extremely painful)
ALWAYS train for a skintight pump
ALWAYS train legs with high reps (up to 100 on Leg Presses)

Perfect Split IMO:

Mon.-Quads & Calves
Tues.-Chest & Abs
Wed.-Back & Traps
Thurs.-Shoulders & Abs
Fri.-Arms (Possibly more calves)
Sat.-Off or cardio
Sun.-Off

Throw in cardio 3-4 X a week as needed.

I`ll add more.................... ...gotta` have more coffee.

Yes if you could tolerate them.

Personally, the most I`ve ever done is between 20-25 reps per set due to lower back issues and lower back cramping.

I love it.......used it for eons....old school Arnold style routine.

If you choose to use it,go lighter during the second portion of the week as it is easy to get burnt out training in this manner at least until the body adapts to it as it adapts to any stressors over time.

Guys,it may take me a bit of time because I type with one finger (I`m serious here, but the consolation is that it is my main pussy finger that I type with),but I have a lot to add to this thread..............my thoughts on training and diet have changed considerably over time.

I`ll go into low rep heavy training, and why I think it isn`t as necessary as always touted unless you train exclusively for strength next up.

Any questions, not that I`m anyone special, mind you,but I have trained in probably every conceivable fashion for bodybuilding as well as a smattering of powerlifting so I have garnered a bit of info..........just ask.   ;)

Wes, any thoughts on this?  When I train with little rest between sets and relatively high reps (8-12) I find I can only use moderate weights. As you know fast training limits the weight you can use.

Seems there are two schools of thought. Power building using low sets, to failure, and taking your time to recover between sets. The other extreme is training with little time between sets, high sets and maybe going to failure at the end of 4 to 6 sets per exercise. I call this muscular endurance training going for the burn and pump.

I guess the question is does it hurt your ego using lighter weight even though you are working hard as hell. I remember a guy in the gym saying he watched Chris Dickerson training and he used light weights but took it back when he trained with him. He said he trained so fast he couldn't keep up and the light weight got seriously heavy after grinding out one quick set after another.

Rich,to wear out the old standard cliche`that everyone always uses,..........."heavy is realative",I find that if I Super-Set Barbell Curls using 100 pounds as an example, with Skullcrushers using 90 pounds, say for 10 reps on curls and 12-15 reps on Skulls,no rest between exercises whatsoever, then 60 seconds rest between the Super-Sets,that 100 pounds and 90 pounds respectively becomes heavier than Hell really damn quick.

Doing the above scenario, one shouldn`t be able to get those reps after the second Super-Set is finished.....in other words, reps will naturally decrease due to the short rest period involved.

This is,like I have said for decades on here, and to paraphrase Vince Gironda, called "Intensity Of Effort"...............ie,most work done in the shortest amount of time possible for this particular scenario.

In essence, the "lighter" poundages" are not so light after a few rounds of this.

The muscles cannot see the numbers on the barbells.....they only know stress/intensity.

RESULT: less stress on joints, ligaments, and tendons,as well as great intenity, burn, pump, flushing of blood, and cardiovasculasr effect....again,in essence,it is more like what bodybuilding is supposed to be like as opposed to just moving heavt tonnage from "Point" "A",to "Point" "B".

Next I will draw up what I call "Ladder Sets".......probably like nothing most have seen here........not for the faint of heart.

I will add as an addendum that no matter what rep range a person is gunning for, weights should be heavy enough to always be a challenge though doubles and triples need not be included.

Which brings us back to the worn out cliche`........."heavy is realative"

jay cutler trains fast. fast on the movements and 45 seconds rest
But Jay does 1/4 reps with candyass weight............I say to still; go heavy whether it`s for 8 reps or 20 reps........it should always be a cjhallenge and each total rep scheme just a goal or target that should be a motherf ucker to actually achieve at each set.

Watching Cutler train is sleep inducing.

Waching me train would be to experience agonizing pain because I ALWAYS go all out,why train otherwise?
