I've read the bible - the greatest work of fiction ever - so my vocabulary is probably spectacular!!
-
20,900
words
-
21,400 words.
I'm calling bullshit though. They say that most English speaking people (that take this test) fall between 20,000 and 35,000 words.
I know I have an above average vocabulary. They are making it act like most Americans have a good vocabulary. No fucking way.

No way.
I literally didn't know maybe 15 words on all of the lists, and I only get 21,400?

how do you know being above average when you have never taken a test before?
-

-
25,800 words.
-
I take what I said back. My score is probably accurate (which is a decent score)
Gentlemen, look at some of those words. You can't tell me you can come up with a definition (from your head) for the more obscure ones.
-

Its easy. I know I have a bigger vocabulary than the average joe.
It would be erroneous to imply otherwise ;)
Maybe completing a degree and posting SAT scores give you a boost.

I always took it upon myself to look up words I didn't know the meaning of to increase my vocabulary. (No Homo)
-
I think they add points for being old bastards as well.
Also, why are they making a difference out of people who read alot of fiction?
Wouldn't non-fiction offer a plethora of options as well?
-
30,500
But thatīs not fair....you started before Shakespeare was born....
-
No, but I have been known to auto-fellate while listening to audiobooks. ;).
Ah Fellatio in the past tense.
See, that is above average ;)

With fiction, you tend to be forced to touch upon many more subjects, at least slightly, than you normally do with non-fiction. For instance, a good crime novel may have you delving into a few different trades and social classes, each with their own unique vocabularies in one book. You don't see that with much non-fiction, it's more straight ahead.

30,700 - can understand roughly 90% of one of Russell Brand's pretentious rants
-
37800. But I also speak 4 languages which helped and read a lot of old English books.
-
I got 43,900 words. But I may have cheated a bit. If a word "rang a bell" I put a check mark. 8) I know it said not to... but I still know how to use it in a sentence so it counts in my book. ;0
