The base price at The Firehouse for the bodybuilder's breakfast with chicken breast, without tax or a drink, was $16 bucks! Bodybuilders ain't got that kind of money, even living in their cars outside Golds to save on rent. They've been priced out by the hipsters of Venice.
With added bananas in the buckwheat pancakes and the drink and tax the total was $21 for a single meal.

I went a couple times and it's just insane for there clean food. Like 2 eggs is 6 bucks. I got a burger, wings and a pizza for like 16 bucks. Fuck their "bodybuilding" menu
-
Everybody wanna be a bodybuilder, but nobody wanna spend a lot of money on pancakes.

hi Goodrum.
-
???
Why go there in the first place? Its garbage.
-
The cars in the Golds lot and across the street are a lot nicer than they used to be also. I guess some are for that apartment complex they put up, but even still, very few beaters. The heyday has apparently come and gone and Living The Dream is an idea whose time has passed.

Focus on business the same way you focus on your workout, and you got both, money AND the physique to go with it 8)

Nostalgia. I remember Arnold sitting next to Dean Tornabene at the counter, able to look over Dean and comment how big you are and asking where you train (as if somehow the answer was not always Gold's Gym, Venice).

The business most in Golds seemed focused on was personal training. Literally the exact same guys as ten and even twenty years ago. Hope it is lucrative for them.

How was the "Bob Bowl" called before Bob came along?

I have clear memories of the Bodybuilder Breakfast at $4.95 + $1.00 for a chicken breast. Bodybuilder breakfast and a pitcher of ice tea + tip was under $10.
Summer 1990.

I was there several times in the mid-90's prices were similar. Prices started to get silly in the mid-00's. The owners are greedy fuckers.
I'll say it again... fuck them!
-
Since the last few "PIP" threads have featured a final pic of the deceased sitting down to one of these epic breakfasts, perhaps it's for the best that the average $5/hour BB/personal trainer can't afford to eat there.

Exactly what I thought when I saw a pic of the menu. I can get the convenience of it back prices were cheap too reasonable, but no way now.

i was just out of high school. i'd drive my bro and friends to dennys, we'd all eat for under $10, tip like crap, i'd drop them off at school then head on down to the community college.
-

I hear that the bodybuilder menu includes being "towled" off by Kai ;D

I've been to Golds Gym many times when I visit Venice. Never went to the Firehouse because I didn't know where it was.
Some said it was across the street from Golds but I knew that wasn't true. It is around the corner on Rose and Main.
Golds is on Hampton.

Those prices aren't so bad. It's a restaurant, fer crissake. You aren't gonna eat there every day.

It's basically a shitty little breakfast diner, not some fancy restaurant. All the color comes from the Golds crowd. But they've eaten the goose that laid the golden egg apparently.
I used to go there most every weekend at least once for breakfast from about 2001-03. The waitresses were better as was the food. The waitress that usually served me didn't even need to bring a menu, she just asked me if I wanted "the usual."
Sad it's gone.

And directly to the left across Rose on the other corner used to be Koo Koo Roo chicken. Back in the day, so damn good. Their skinless chicken breast, tomato and cucumber salad and cracked wheat rice plate I would eat every day for the rest of my life. But poor management ran the chain in to the ground.
Now it's a goddamned CVS.
