The U, part 2 was really good too -

.

It also introduced me to the greatest football song of the last 10 - 20 years, I love to see the twitter outrage if something like this happened now -

.

Here's the Boz episode -

.

A little slow in parts, but a solid watch. I've got to admit, 30 for 30 is a great show, even for the casual sports fan. I can recall easily 10 - 20 over the past few years that I really enjoyed.

It's always funny when these supposed alphas turn out to have a flamboyantly fruity son. I bet there's a few posters on here that fit that category. He either wasn't there for him when he was growing up, so he grew up hating his father and wanted to be the exact opposite or was forced into sports at an early age when all he wanted was to be upstairs in his room painting "homo things".

Yeah I liked Pony Express and Marinovich Project. Haven't seen the Ricky one yet.

Probably the Ali vs. Holmes was my favorite.

All of the Boxing ones have been solid.

The Todd Marinovich Project was great, look for Benny Podda in it too(http://vimeo.com/90829218). The two U 30 for 30's were excellent. Liked The Raider's Straight Outta LA -
, and the Detroit Pistons "Bad Boys" one - http://www.vimeo.com/92387757 .

The Boston College Mafia betting scandal one - www.youtube.com/watch?v=BfxzGOkXw9s , Bo Jackson - www.youtube.com/watch?v=uyqgjgVgX_I , and Jimmy The Greek (www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3RyrtPuljs) episodes were good too.

Also enjoying "A Football Life" too, this one on Alzado was quite good, steroid stuff notwithstanding -

Saw it.  Nothing new about the Boz.  Kind of bullshit how they were in that locker going down memory lane and his son trying his hardest to look sullen and shed a tear for his dad.

Yeah I liked Pony Express and Marinovich Project.

Marinovich was good. The bionic kid!

BTW I didn't misspell it, it is excess. Thats how SMU did it, excessively.

Marcus Dupree story was great also. Was he 19 when he signed for USFL !!
Is it true that Friday Night Lights is vaguely about him, or the RB character anaway?

Yeah, but nothing different than what a lot of schools were doing but they pissed off Texas University which sicked the NCAA dogs on them.  Loved Dickerson's gold TA

Wonder how different KC, NE or the Jets would have been if they took marino instead of blackledge, Eason and O'Brien.  Classic Browns trading their pick to Buffalo who chose Jim kelly and what did the Browns end up with?  HAHAHA.

Coach watch this 30 for 30...It's Best 30 for 30 with running back Marcus (Wiggs) Dupree---The best that never was---. Football player who in high school could score anytime he wanted to. Uncle stole his money and the guy drives a truck now...I believe he is the first to sign a million dollar contract with the USFL. Grew up in shit and ended up with shit...Great real life story...

You do realize Friday Night Lights was originally a book written by some journalist who followed the Odessa Permian Panthers around for one season back in the mid 80's?

I can't speak for the tv series, I've never watched an episode of that but the movie was most definitely inspired by the book except for a few minor changes(location of the championship game, how the game ended and a few other small characters from the book left out)

The book is a good read. I would recommend it.

Interesting to see him today with a teenage son and mellowed out in middle age.

in terms of personal growth as an adult or any maturity gained its pretty bad at age 50 or so to be running around as the 'the boz'now in bbing terms being that way is the norm'meathead'for life...

He wasn't a true bust.  He was actually pretty good when he played but he was too reckless in his style that led to injuries too soon.

It seems like there are two camps on Boz. The first and larger say he was an outright bust while the second will say he was actually a pretty decent linebacker whose body just broke down on him.

I don't know because I never remember seeing him play, it was a little before my time.

Seen all the 30 for 30's mentioned in this thread. My favorite's are the The U part 1 and 2. Another one that Billy Corben also did that is excellent is Broke. All the aro athletes that ended up broke and how the got there.

No, I didn't. Just remember reading somewhere that, that RB character in a movie was Dupreesque.
Might be some discussion board :)

Yeah I was really stoked when the movie came out because I had already read the book a couple times and really enjoyed it.

That same guy(Boobie Miles) is living out in a small west texas town driving a fork lift with a few kids last time I heard.

There's a part on the dvd where they show some of the other real life characters and what they were doing/living at the time of the dvd release a few years back.

What makes the SMU 30 for 30 even more fascinating is that it happened to such a small private school, imo.

He was a great college linebacker, then he started calling himself "The Boz"  ::) , then he got made a bitch forever by Bo Jackson, then raised a son who chooses to be a fruit pop.  Now you don't have to sit through all the commercials.  You're welcome.

Good point...I also think the "fruity" run media likes to find these types of people and really push them through...

Especially ESPN. Surprised they didn't want Magic's flamboyant, fat, gay son in his 30 for 30 "The Announcement" about him having full blown AIDS
