Poor Mike Katz.  Just seemed like a tortured soul.  Whatever bully abuse that he had as a child never left him.

I wish there was some more conversation about training and diet

Would the 1970's Mike Katz be allowed to train a the 2015 Mike Katz Planet Fitness?

Seems like a really cool nice guy, it's a shame he has rusty fenders though.

Mike was very nice and, being a former school teacher, very articulate. It was cool talking to one of the stars from "Pumping Iron", 40 years after that contest took place.

I think that was Ben Weider's decision to put both Mike and Waller on the team and eliminate Padilla.
It was obviously for the movie so they could show the rivalry between Waller and Katz.

Don't be naïve , simply ask Padilla, or Ken or R.R.

That whole thing in Pumping Iron was a set up for the movie. When Waller, Robinson and Callard were talking about taking his lucky tee shirt that was filmed months after the competition in Africa.

Katz was an animal athlete. One of the fastest linemen on the NY Jets. Ran a 4.6 in full uniform on grass as a lineman. I doubt he was intimidated by Ken Waller who wasn't signed out of college football like Mike was. Is he a sensitive guy? Sure he comes across that way  but make no mistake back in the day he could bring it when needed.

The interview was fantastic. He owns several Planet Fitness gyms and says they are beginner gyms that made him more money then when he owned a World Gym.

He was a school teacher, married with kids when he was competing and that's when the majority of guys at Gold's didn't have a job or a family.

good post. Waller was always portrayed as a hard man but was he really?

In the interview I did with Bill Grant, he said Waller was a great guy. He would always help out the new
bodybuilders at Golds who just moved to California by telling them where to go to get their car fixed or what
restaurants to go to, etc. Bill also said Waller was a bad ass. He would fight 4-5 guys at a time in the night clubs.
He said he loved to fight. Here's the interview - http://www.floridaphysique.com/#!BodybuildingLegends%20Bill%20Grant/c26l
