Here he is 55 years old in the role of The Swimmer from 1968.
Still today, 47 years later a good everyday physique to strive for, yet with all the training methods, supplements etc most men dont look that good, at any age, never have and never will. Sad really.

it's an interesting time, the girl in that picture has no hairy armpits (where as todays women would have us believe that from the mid 80's and before everyone was hairy), one of the women in the movie compliments his physique and says she's on a diet.
people were into looking their best and being fit even back in the late 60's (not everyone was a hippie!)

BL was a gymnast. Worked in the circus I believe (before Hollywood).

Trust me, women have been shaving their armpits long before 1980....crotches not so much.

Burt Lancaster starred with Tony Curtis and Gina Lollobrigida in the 1956 film, Trapeze. He likely called on his high school gymnastics experience and the period prior to becoming an actor when he was part of an acrobatic duo in a circus act. He also played baseball during his high school years.
