Rhoden dropped? Fuck man, some dark days for these guys it seems. But hey, the Olympia totally sucked ass last year. Time to reward the guys who actually show up. Not many it seems, so not so surprised here.

i dont understand why those companies employed them to begin with? surely any random decent looking gym guy would be enough to sell some protein powder?

The physique guys would seem to be where the marketing sweet-spot is. Not these bloated turtle-bellies.

You don't need bodybuilders to sponsor any supplements. Teenagers and newbies will buy these supplements no matter what. They don't buy these supplements because shown rhoden is posing with the supplement. They buy these supplements because they see all the bodybuilding contests and want to look like that. With the age of technology, people are being overwhelmed by the fitness craze. This alone is enough to get people out there to buy supplements. You don't need some meat head holding up a tub of protein to sell it. ::)

It will be important to determine what tier they are according to the BayGBM tier-system. They will need to make extra cash somehow.

The bodybuilding world is an incestuous circle jerk with the mayor of bodybuilding in the middle. Supplements companies pay bodybuilders to promote their supplements in magazines. In turn, these ads generate income for magazine. The magazines, bodybuilders and magazines are all dependent on each other because bodybuilding is such a small niche. It's inherently unstable. If any part falls the entire scheme topples over.

Most of the supplement "contracts" are a few tubs of protein for

Even the few "pros" with "supplement deals" get paid in powder, not $

Social media is taking over endorsements. Easier and cheaper to mail some kid your junk product, so he can do a YouTube review on how "jack" he got, vs paying some bber $$$.

Exactly, why pay a bodybuilder a 6 digit check when you can others to do it for chump change. Bodybuilding magazines are dying. They are half supplement ads. Most guys train in a gym for fitness and not drug muscles. The supplement companies can easily pay a male model 20K or less to use their picture with their snake oil. They don't need to pay crazy amounts to pro bodybuilders anymore.

Exactly. And it works... either that or they offer you a rep position. Where you promote and get a commission or products. Just know because some no name companies emailed me before. Now the bigger names on social media can do pretty good. Look at all the kids on castleberrys ig buying the products because they really think he takes it

I find it hard to believe that most of them even get paid in money. This prob only happens with the Olympia top-6 and the only serious cash cows are Kai, Phil & maybe Shawn.

I found the MuscleTech DVDs I got 10 years ago, after getting a cheap jug of Cell-Tech for $16.
Man, how the landscape has changed.
First, I can't believe they're that old.
Second, look at the bodybuilders they had on the payroll:
Jay Cutler
Dexter Jackson
Johnnie Jackson
Jeramy Freeman
King Kamali
Matt Duval
Chris Cormier
Branch Warren
Charles Glass
As recently as 2011, they had THREE Mr. Os on the payroll: D. Jackson, Heath, Cutler (although Jackson got moved to promoting Six Star, before leaving the company altogether).
Now, the only bodybuilder left is that ex-powerlifter, Matt Kroczeleski (sp?).
