In order
1. Led Zeppelin
2. Eagles
3. GnR
Now it is a top 3 but if I could i would list AC/DC as a 2.1 and Metallica as a 3.1 but I just loved Appetite for Destruction and went with GnR. One of the most complete albums I ever heard and I plowed a lot of chicks while having GnR playing when I was younger. I still think Pearl Jam's 10 is one of the top five albums ever but can't list them here because they peaked right there at the start.

3) Reh Dogg - Why Must i Cry?
It's got a good beat and you can dance to it ;D.
Seriously, first time hearing this. If it had someone with a better voice and tighter production, it could be actually be a decent song, no problem.
-
It all comes down to a personal matter of taste.
-
Queen, Zeppelin, Beatles...in any particular order you like

I know I said Prince, and this is about bands. If we are talking solo artists, then Peter Gabriel. If we are going to say that Prince is not a "band", then replace that with Echo and the Bunnymen.

My favorite band of all time was the band that Dirk Diggler (Brock Landers) & Reed Rothchild (Chest Rockwell) formed in the movie "Boogie Nights".

Honorable mention goes to the great Cab Calloway and his band.

We would get along.
I would add Van Morrison as a solo artist.
-
This band changed my life the Banana Splits. Their chord progressions were so unique they created their own scales progressions. The bass was so melodic and rhythm inspired that bass players rushed to imitate it. What could be said about the drummer? He was a mix of Buddy Rich with the edge of Keith Moon.
-
BDB and Marty Champions are the two best lyricists on Getbig.
I dick down two whores in the afternoon.
I dick down two whores at night.
I dick down two whores before I dick down two whores then I dick down two whores.

Odd that you list PJ, too, the band that ripped off your fave.
-
Meshuggah
Tool
Too hard to pick a third. So much great music out there. Very much like some of the hand picked bands that Steve Vai and Virgil Donati have put together too but they are not traditional "groups" that stay together for years on end.
-
I just listen to music that I like. I usually never got so into a particular artist or band, that I would listen to every album/track they ever made.
Except for the rap group Eightball & MJG.
Otherwise I just enjoy good music.
-
Gonna throw some bands out there that are more obscure and under appreciated.
Status Quo
Be Bop Deluxe
Pat Travers
10CC
Montrose
King Crimson
-
Odd that you list PJ, too, the band that ripped off your fave.
Meh, don't see it that way. But understand what you mean.
Some bad ass music STP!!!
-
STP was my clear favorite in the grunge era.
-
STP was my clear favorite in the grunge era.
STP is very unique because they are a hard rock group. Not metal, not pop or rock, but hard rock. Good guitars, but not screaming loud never ending solo's that take over. Weiland's vocals before he fucked it all up were just so "manly" I always found.
A song like "meatplow" would be epic to hear at a strip club. Fuckin' awesome tune that is...
-
Subject to change in 5 minutes,
Skynyrd
....still trying to figure out the other two :-\
-
Definitely an alpha. .way better than Pearl Spam

Layne Staley.....fucking guy went out HARD. Discovered 2 weeks later as a rotting heroin injected corpse in his Seattle apartment. Fucking rock n roll
-
Cream
The Jimi Hendrix Experience
Nirvana
I know that Nirvana is probably not a musically great bands but they had their riffs and I dig them. I would probably add Led Zeppelin and Soundgarden to the list.
A song to listen to in the gym
-
Layne Staley.....fucking guy went out HARD. Discovered 2 weeks later as a rotting heroin injected corpse in his Seattle apartment. Fucking rock n roll
Grungers meant that shit: Andrew Wood, two from Chains, Cobain with the head shot; they weren't pretending.

I've heard this. Must be daily black clouds and downpours every fucking day in Norway/Sweden. My God those dudes are dark.
-
Their under rated song.
-
Forgot Jimi Hendrix Experience, Of all the Seattle bands Alice in Chains by far.
-
Alice in Chains and Soundgarden during the grunge era.
Soundgarden's music still holds up today. Chris Cornell has one of the best voices I've ever heard.
-
Agree on AIC...one of my favorites ever, along with Pantera. But when you talk all time, I think it's hard to dispute the bands that had the longevity and sheer amount of good music like The Rolling Stones, Metallica, Led Zep, U2, etc.......
-
Zeppelin
The Outlaws

Best live band: The Outlaws
Nothing is as good as this:
Outlaws are awesome, I got their live album with the Columbia house record club back in 1981.. Ha ha.. Im old...

Alice in Chain certainly deserves special mention; facelift, dirt, and about half of jar of flies are great even amazing albums. They simply didnt have the longevity or number of amazing releases some of the more legendary bands produced.
I listen to facelift nearly every day... Sunshine gets me every time.

Great record. "We Die Young" and "Bleed the Freak" for me, both f'n crush. "Private Hell" from BGWtB with Duvall is haunting as fuck, love that song; reminiscent of "Down in a Hole" to a degree. "Your Decision" from the same record, too, Cantrell on vocals.
Legendary band for sure, but I'm still 1) Pearl Jam and 2) Soundgarden for 90s Seattle. Nirvana never did shit for me.

Nirvana was never my things. Jam was cool, Soundgarden had some great songs. AIC is the pinnacle of 90's seattle though for sure in my book.
Keep in mind I am listening these 20+ years later... I was a wee lad when the bands were in their prime.

I have also gotten into NIN a lot this last couple months, your thing?

saw these guys 6 times in person...... last time without hughie t. RIP :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(.....
-

Switch to tool.
-
Will also throw in Soundgarden for good measure. Badmotorfinger is a great album, Chris Cornell great voice.
-
Iron Maiden
Killswitch Engage
Slayer
On the basis of being influential and leading me to other groups that I love. Those three cover a lot of ground in metal; old new and extreme. Not that Slayer is too extreme these days..
Not a fan of rock n roll really, ACDC when I was a kid were good, GnR too... Never got on with the Beatles or Led Zep or Stones. Hendrix- NAH. Just not for me. I did love Whitesnake though, or rather anything John Sykes played guitar on ;) highly underrated player.
-
Switch to tool.
I like tool.
-

Afraid not. My industrial phase started and ended with Ministry's "Just One Fix."
-
Will also throw in Soundgarden for good measure. Badmotorfinger is a great album, Chris Cornell great voice.
Probably the best musically of the Seattle bands. Love Bmf, but have to say Superunknown is their masterpiece.
In my opinion, Cornell was at it his absolute peak with Temple of the Dog. "Say Hello to Heaven" will peel the paint from your walls. Here, listen:
-
Beats by Jay had the potential to by top 3 all time if he got the right producer. He has the voice of an angel...
-
The Cure
Pink Floyd
System of a Down
-
Switch to tool.
Amazing, amazing band. I think Tool is where metal hits its apex. Sure, you can do it faster, louder, heavier, more evil or gimmicky or whatever, but how do you outgenius what they did with Lateralus and 10,000 Days?
... and I thought it'd be impossible for them to top Aenema.

Rush

ZZ Top (their bluesy stuff, not their formulaic synthesizer crap)

Indeed. Oldschool Canadian. Like, pre-Turdeau Canada (both scumbags).
Brighton Rock and Coney Hatch are about as Kult Kanadiana as you’ll find. And Kim Mitchell, well, the man’s a god.
I buy between five and 15 albums each week. Music is my life. A bigger passion than even weight training. My death metal CD collection alone numbers in the thousands.
Hard rock and heavy metal is the blood coursing through my veins.

You make a fair point. The musical tastes on this board definitely indicate to some extent we’re a bunch of white trash rednecks, but I’m OK with that, and I’m well aware that there are other genres of music.
They’re just not as good 8)

How?... Frey is dead. They're either very greedy or someone is hurting for cash. I loved this band, but they charge a lot of money for a ticket. Also, these guys are getting old... they'll be touring in wheelchairs soon. Why don't think just go out on top? Silly.

I think Henley is worth 200 million. Ticket prices are usually the promoters decision. When you can still draw a crowd like they do, and they obviously enjoy performing, why not? I've seen them twice before Freys death and they were amazing each time. The individual talent of each combined with the others is an absolute joy to experience. I just saw Henley around March and the guy still hits the high notes and puts on a great show.
Without Glenn I doubt I would go see them again, but had I not seen them before, I certainly would consider it.

Danny Carey, Adam Jones, Justin Chancellor--they're all so scary good and talented, I'm pretty sure they've made a musical pact with Satan.

Musicians who write and record music for public consumption deserve to be monetarily compensated by those who enjoy their efforts. Period.
I began my passion for hard/heavy rock and metal in ‘83. Never wavered. In fact, my appreciation for this music grows with each passing year.
I’m confused why my tastes make my purchasing music “even crazier”. Hard music is as legitimate a style as any other. Some of the very finest musicianship and technical instrumental prowess is found in metallic musics. Indeed it is the genre in which the players are generally most pushing the boundaries. As well, metal is rock’s most resilient and surviving substyle. Also its most varied.
(I do dig select fusion and jazz players and love Tears For Fears.)
I do have some pics for insurance purposes but I’m not interested to post them.
P.S. Just to add to the strength of my ongoing passion, I currently have 19 CDs on order from private sellers on Amazon. This is not unusual. At any given time, I usually have at least several “on the way”.
-
what i meant was that it would be easier to get buying 5-15 cds of all kinds of music.
personally i think having say 10 albums with slayer is too much of the same, ill stick to a couple of albums
