Well, we're the same age Joe. It was cool that bodybuilding actually got network TV coverage back then! I was just starting to train, and bodybuilding was actually inspiring in those days. I never competed like you, but it pushed me to aspire to have a better physique, especially since I was an ecto and not particularly blessed genetically.

Watching this picture make me aware how small this dudes actually was...this is not a big dude at all. Shot and narrow...he got some dense muscles though!

This is small kid complex! A tall natural well build teen would dwarf him just by sniffinf on some dbols :D

Once a midget, always a midget. Faschinating how tall guys always will be Superior to short guys...

I remember this too on Wide World of Sports although I thought it was later and the Olympia  I remember a camera crew following Mentzer around in a hospital.  Mentzer claimed to be a med student or am I remembering it wrong?

I think he had 3 years in pre med before quitting. What was he doing in the hospital? Maybe mopping the floors?

That picture of Mentzer is from the North America, not the Universe. The 1978 Universe took place in Acapulco, Mexico and Mentzer, Platz and Carlos Rodriquez were the class winners.
