Did you know that every printer in the world has it's own unique signature when it prints. Basically the FBI can tell specifically which printer printed a doc and then trace back purchase records to the owner.

This is why I bought my computer, printer, cell phone, television etc in cash money
-
so stick to newspaper cuttings on ransom notes?
also - when I buy a printer in cash from the local shop and don't give them my name & address - how do they trace me?

If the store has security cameras they'll know the time and place those items were purchased.
-
Buy a 3D printer with cash then print an ordinary printer, printception.

Security footage is only saved for a limited time before it is erased. Secondly I usually wear a hat and look at the floor when I enter premises with security cameras. (i learned this from one movie i cant remember the name of)

maybe this was relevant back in the day when people actually were using printers?

Printer signatures are more unique then your finger prints or snowflakes. Printers have their own unique set of "dna" that make them completely individual; it's easier to track where a ransom note was printed from than it is to trace gun ballistics.
Liam Nieson's character in the Taken series was largely based on a printers ability to locate his kidnapped daughter.
The new world order is very nervous of the black market becoming flooded with unregistered printers.

Doom knew this. It was not always so; I cannot remember what year it started, perhaps around the early 2000s. If you have an older printer/copier your documents will have no traceable digital signature or IP address.
In a similar vein, look very closely at the checks in your checkbook. You may notice that the line on which you sign your name looks a little different from other lines on the check. The reason is because it is not simply a line. The line was made with something called "micro fine printing." That line is actually text/numbers that you cannot see without magnifying equipment. To your naked eye it merely looks like a line. Bah!

Getbiggers buy printers wearing a full coat, ski hat and fake nose/mustache glasses and they pay with a bag of change.

It's irrelevant
It's not about tracing you. If you are a suspect in a crime, say for example you sent a ransom note that was printed on your printer in your house that you bought from a homeless guy with cash.. and because of other reasons, you were the prime suspect in that kidnapping. The police could get a search warrant for your house, seize any printer/computer in your home and have it analyzed, comparing the printing from the... oh hell..I've said too much
