He could've done more with better encouragement.
I love squatting. At my best I did 225 for 55 reps... 265 for 40... 315 for 25... 405 for 13... and 495 for 7. I weighed under 200lbs. I never attempted a single.

if you do leg extensions first and dont go crazy on the weights i never noticed an issue. going at it cold and with your ego will destroy your knees in no time tho

Why ? wide hips big ass from squats? or more quad isolation? sure Hacks are good but do front squats in your routine.

squats put unnessecary stress on the spine which isnt meant to be handling big weights. the back always gives out before the legs as well therefore it's much better to do hack squats and leg presses

love heavy ass squats, was moving 220kilo today

why only 21 reps? ive always found that growth is in the 22nd rep

My legs are weak

great squats.
But he could have his back more straight I agree. People always have excuses not to squat. Uuuuuuh it's unnecessary, too much stress on the back blablabla.
Try with proper squat shoes, and drive with your head up instead of down or straight. Head up. Also putting a piece of board under your ankles helps to keep your back more in line, if you sit down instead of "going down".
Twink giving advice, but I'm right.

"Big" weights is a relative thing. Proper squatting strengthens the muscles that surround the spine. However, after years of the bar resting on the cervical spine (C6/C7) it can cause nerve impingement problems... this is what happened to me. After I started using a manta ray, the pain went away. I never had problems with my lower spine. Squats are far more superior than leg presses for leg development. Hack squats are much better than leg presses.

Squats are the king of all exercises

Each are impressive on their own merits.

I do! Perfect straight back, more quads, less ass, lower back and hamstring...yepp, that pretty much it!

That's very impressive. I've done 315 for 20, 495 for 3, and 525 for a good, solid, ass-to-grass single weighing 220-ish to 230 or so @ 5'7. I never use wraps, squat suits, or anything else other than a belt when going above 405 or so. My bench sucks though. :-\

Hmm... I'll give it a try next workout.

i once did 260lbs in the legpress

Whether one can stay upright in the back squat depends quite a bit on the length of the thigh bone in relation to the length of the lower legs. Long femurs make Oly-style/high-bar/upright back squats very difficult if not impossible, even with olympic squat shoes. Nothing against squatting, but I gotta wonder why in the year 2015 the high bar back squat is still pushed so hard as the end all, be all for leg development. Especially since with things like the Safety_Squat bar (introduced some 30 years ago no less) which are safer and more effective for quad growth.

Thanks bro, but those were my glory days. This year is my 30th year of training. I've also never used a belt, suit or wraps. I'll be 49 this year, my joints hurt more than they used to... I need to warm up well and be careful. I've been getting my squats back up... my current goal is 225 for 20... should take 4-5 more workouts to do it. My flat bench sucks too because of my shoulders cannot handle it anymore.
To the guys who are in your 20's and 30's, you're in your prime right now... enjoy it while you can.

Yeah, I'm 45, been training 27 years myself. The training I do now would have been "undertraining" for me 15-20 years ago, but it works well these days. I basically train every bodypart once every 9-10 days (1-2 bodyparts a day, usually 2 on, 1 off) with a fair amount of volume and intensity, and do rack pulls / deads roughly 1.5 times a month.
