Ive read an interview with a sparring partner journyman type who sparred everyone from Marciano to Foreman and says Marciano hit harder than Liston, Foreman or Frazier.
HOW!?? He was 180lbs>!!??!?! Where the hell and how did that power come?!!?!?
-
Hip torque. His short punches to the body were devastating.

All technique, skill and eating heavy for years.
His punches were thick, solid and tight.

Watch how he throws, it it's like a spring being sprung. Hip torque, leg drive, all of it, just as one.You see it in Tyson too.

Marciano hitting harder than Frazier is believable but Liston and Foreman? I call BS as well.

Yes, I'm calling bullshit on Foreman more than anything.

Power is how quickly you can release strength. It's not technique or skill. You have some 900lbs squatters that have terrible vertical leap because while they have strength but not power. Olympic lifting should be called power lifting and power lifting should be called strength lifting. One of the most important commodities in sport is power. When you punch hard, sprint fast, jump high, tackle an opponent, or kick hard it is a demonstration of power.
Rocky was strong as hell. In addition he had the related athletic commodity of incredible power.
-
I remember reading he did a ton of hard manual labor as a kid so that might have contributed as well.
-
he trained like a spartan for many years and lived a clean and healthy life.
his training is legendary and it shows in the ring. he always had a hard punch but his
advantage over everyone was he never ever gassed and his power would stay the same from round 1 to 15

Bullshit
Exactly.. I have never heard anyone say that Foreman wasn't the heaviest handed fugger.. He looked like he was swinging Thors Hammer
-
For what it's worth, Foreman names his hardest punchers -

Marciano seemed to maximise his leverage and twist his body into every punch. I don't understand why people say Marciano was crude. There's certainly nothing wrong with the way he punched. Incredibly, hurtful and debilitating one-shot puncher on the inside,a bit like Holyfield IMO.
Tyson seemed to be more of a combination puncher(especially in the 80's) very close inside. He always seemed to be more squared up close to his opponents ,to throw rapid combinations. Holyfield and Marciano seemed to be more side-on,which would maximise leverage, for a single shot.

That is a great trait to have, especially in the heavyweight division.
