Today, I drove by a GNC store. It was a strip mall version. I was trying to think of when I last bought anything at GNC. Those stores used to be busy. But in recent years; they are ghost towns.

Completely disintermediated by Amazon and places like DP Nutrition (and Caliber Nutrition). I don't even go in for a laugh anymore, it's depressing that they soaked up tens of thousands of my dollars over the years. They need to stock better muscle mags so I can go
fap read in peace rather than Barnes and Noble where they frown on such behavior.
-
Even the ones in the UK are pretty empty now. You occasionally see a group of skinny college boys inside looking at which products will get them "jacked". But more times than not, the shop assistant is just there standing by himself, looking bored at the till.

I actually worked in a GNC when I was in grad school ( 1994).
I have not shopped at one since I stopped working there.
-
they are no longer needed, simple as that.

about 2 years ago, i stopped a one of the GNC knockoff stores to grab a tub of protein. Normally order online, needed some, was right there.
Dude tries adding on a $50 bottle of specially formulated fat burning acids that target the midsection. Fish Oil.
I wanted to choke the dude with his own shoelaces while smashing his face with a smartphone displaying Getbig.
-
I'm in one right now. Oh wait. Its just an empty room.

I sold a ton of those Cybergenics kits back in the day.
I got sick of selling "gimmick" stuff, so I eventually quit working there.
I got a sales % commission on the stuff I sold.
The GNC brand made me and the store more profit, so they told us to push the house brand whenever we could.
Sounds like the fish oil, fit into that category and things have not changed with the GNC biz model in over 20 yrs.

Back in 2001 & 2002 I loved using TwinLab Ripped Fuel

Can honestly say I've never purchased anything from GNC in my life. Couple of skinny work colleagues who have started going to the gym told me they'd been in there recently buying up "pre-workouts" and "fat-burners" ::) because of the advice they'd been given by the people working in there so I went in a few weeks back to check the place out.
When I went in there I was the only one that the sales staff didn't approach because I obviously look like I train and knew I wouldn't be stupid enough to buy anything so I just wandered around the place laughing to myself at the prices and then left.
How the place stays in business I'll never know what with all the stuff you can find out online. Well, I kind of do know - they feed on the ignorance of the masses who haven't quite transcended to that level of common-sense thinking.

The original caffeine /ephedrine stack in the old TwinLab Ripped Fuel was awesome.
I sold a bunch of THAT and was always pleased to advise a customer to buy it.
Then some fat baseball pitcher wearing 11 sweat suits, passed out and died during spring training in Az.
The autopsy showed he had aprox 20 tabs of Ripped Fuel in his system when he died.
Did MLB outlaw rapid wt loss via multi layer sweat/ rubber suits ? No.
Did the media caution everyone to be responsible and not use 10x the recommended serving size? No
The congress ignored who was really at fault and banned ephedrine instead.

Thank God that isn't a US military pattern.

About 4 years ago, and that was to check out a clearance sale. As mentioned, Amazon, etc.... have cut into them badly, even Walmart, CVS, Rite Aid, etc.... have become strong competition to them. Everyday is Gold Card day now.

Not 100% of the exact spelling of every compound*
THAT vintage formula with Mua Juang ( herbal ephedrine) and green tea ( herbal caffeine) with chromium piccolinate was the shit!
Of course ,back then, an NPC or IFBB bodybuilding contest was mostly...BODYBUILDERS.
-
I order from DPS nutrition and the shits
at my door the next day...sometimes
Nutra Planet...GNC is regulated by the
FDA so none of the shit works.
-
Year and years...

Late 90s. Was considering buying some of Muscletech's new supps but decided against spending all my money. I have only ever in my life bought a bottle of Glutamine from GNC. The rest of my supps I always bought online. Not bought anything since they early 2000s though.
-
I went to be the other day in the mall. Had one of those "bros" following me around trying to help me. Everything I looked at I loudly said in front of everyone "what a ripoff!" "Jug of protein for 60 bucks!"
-
i love how they keep the ("hardcore ::) pills") behind a locked secured glass

My penis seemed bigger from taking Ripped Fuel. Am I the only one?

I went in there about 2-3 years ago to browse around. I picked up a tub of a muscle tech product. On the tub was a picture of a bodybuilder (forgot which one). A really old guy approached me. I asked him if I could look like the guy on the tub if I took this product. He answered with a resounding, "YES." I chuckled and just kept browsing.

Haha, I used to work at GNC too. Most boring job of all time. I was totally able to get all of my studying done there in college though.
Looking back, I was definitely one of the bros that would have followed you around asking what you were looking for kinda dork ass.
-
Shit I spent so much money at GNC back in the day. I haven't walked in one in at least five years or more
-
Freshman year in high school I think, so it's been at least 15 years. Can't believe that shitty franchise is still operating especially with the Internet and vitamin shoppes everywhere. Must still be preying on the elderly and naive high schoolers. Oh brother

Haha it was the right thing to do. I don't know if it has changed, but if you had an exclusive gold card (oh brother) then the prices came down close to but not quite as low as the Internet for one or two days each month

GNC is actually good for expired but still fine protein bars. They often mark them down to .59. Other than that I guess they work for protein powder too if you run out.

I don't understand supplements anymore. It's expensive snake oil. A lot of the materials used is sourced from China. Who knows what crap is in it. Just pricing the cost of a tub of whey isolate is enough for me to go buy some tbones, cans of tuna, chicken and skim milk. Scrabble up 4 eggs and put some chocolate syrup in skim milk and you have some protein that is not only quality but it tastes good too. If you want to exceed the vitamins they claim they add to whey powder just buy the cheapest brand of vitamins you can find in the supermarket that has the USP symbol.
Just remember supplements are not regulated. The amounts of protein on the label isn't checked. Consumer Reports once analyzed several brands of whey protein and they found contamination from arsenic and from some heavy metals like cadmium. I heard one guy involved in the supplement business and he said many brands sourced their whey protein from the same source supplier then in their advertisements they claimed theirs was superior. How can it be superior? It is the same stuff in another container with different flavoring and added vitamins.
