its good to get your feet wet but that also was a huge show,26 or so people in a class is like a jr usa/national even national class  ,,ok there not all top level like a 'national'level but the competitor numbers are there.it would have been better to do a tuneup show in novice class and open to collect some trophies and get looked at as a frontrunner, maybe even have snagged a overall novice trophy with the weight class.open is great,to compete open means you get chance to face some good builds at least top 5 depending how many show up...
Title: An open letter to Navy Mike
Post by: Dave D on April 02, 2015, 01:25:21 PM
After viewing your recent contest pics I've decided to tell you to go all in. Take it from me professional bodybuilding is an endeavor worth pursuing.  As you know legendary getbigger Howard still laments he never chased his dreams of thonged glory. Military service, advanced education/degrees,successful careers, relationships and judging bodybuilding contests don't come close to providing the satisfaction of being the biggest, leanest dude on stage.

If I've learned anything following this sport after all these years it's that we're not limited simply  by genetics, they work against every competitor. Let mighty Dan Hill be your guiding light, genetics, work ethic, and training matter little, drug protocol reigns supreme.

Skip the little shows, they're for small minded, weak willed gym tough guys. Telling people you competed in a NATIONAL level contest is far more impressive than winning a show among 3 people in an outlet mall. People at the gym and online will always remember you as a national competitor, just look at Goodrum.

Listen brother I've read your posts in that you've stated numerous times you have no interest of chasing the dream. Don't be like this. I'm offering you this vital advice, not because I care but because I need to post something, anything. I often treat getbig as my personal Facebook bodybuilding page.

Finally enjoy your life, it's short. Don't worry about helping your wife become a pro, have her set aside her dreams and goals for your pursuits. Sure shes a catch now, but  just wait 40 years. Learn from the elders here, women are a dime a dozen. You literally can be remarried numerous times. You can only chase my pro dreams for 30 years tops. Women and people change but the weights on the bar should only go up.

In closing I liked the story you shared about farting in the hotel room on your wife. Far jokes are a staple of any happy man.

Sincerely,

Distressed Howard

Wow , that was some read and yes I read it all. I trust in was meant as a joke, but here's my serious 2 cent reply

1. Most men/woman who compete in national contests, end up being "also rans".
They come out with their division, do a couple qtr turns and a quick call out comparison with others out of the top spots.
They don't  get to pose at the night show and quickly get sent to the sidelines . The promoter loves it as he collects the 250 buck entry fee from everyone on stage. I'd estimate at least 60% on the national stage are delusional or there for bragging rights.
I often wonder how many think they have a legit to win and go pro?

Smaller shows offer a lot more bang for the buck.
You are right on one thing however. Posting you are a "national competitor" is better bragging rights in forums and Facebook.

2.Mike has a lovely, intelligent wife. Having a woman like THAT loving you is better then winning any bodybuilding contest.
Title: Open letter to Naval Mike
Post by: MAXX on April 02, 2015, 01:45:02 PM
Girls and sons who have not been loved by their fathers seek attention once teens and adults to compensate for what they didnt have originally. Fathers either left them alone, or were distant most of the time and not encouraging them. Some even despised them which would shape their personality and the way they d interact with others for the rest of their life. They are extremistic in everything they do, always looking exageratly for attention, and have troubles adapting to society's rules, because they also have troubles defining their own identity and respecting authority and hierarchy.

Also boys who got picked on by others during childhood and adolescence -often sons without a father figure- try to compensate by lifting weights, to develop muscles and survive in ther male world. They re insecure because they re girly, childish, feminine having been raised by a single mom. They lift obsessively hoping it will transform them into men, to compensate for their lack of influence from a father figure that was not there. Unfortunaltey they can get as big as they can it doesnt cure their insecurity and who they truly are, how they grew up being raised by a single mom. They re no as manly as other men whatever they do, and they often have a big lack of masculine presence they dont know how to balance, hence often being borderline homosexuals while trying to get their manhood back thru various manly activities (mma, cars, weight lifting etc). They are often the ones that, in order to get respect from other males will go the steroids route to get even "bigger" attemptint to cure their insecurity , but being natural not being "enough", they still feel "too small", insecure, amongst other males. The lack of a father figure also often means they didnt have guidance to continue studies and are often working shitty manual jobs. You can dominate in life with studies, a good job that requires the use of all your best strenghts, which allows you to contribute fully to the specie that spawned you. By being successful socio professionnaly and by giving birth and raising happy individuals who will also contribute to mankind, to the specie. This is the benevolant, healhty way of contributing to mankind; you dominate by giving as much as you receive using your full potential. And then, there s everything else. The others main strategies of survival. For example, the uneducated loser with charisma linked to his muscles, who only exists because of his muscles, who only impress, dominate others with them. But to keep being respected -feared- and to keep impressing, the muscles must stay, and you want more, so at some point considering they re everything you have, you go the steroid route. No chance he gets an education, a good job, he didnt have a father to give him guidance, he s an atheist, he s an asshole, insecure about his own sexuality,so he survives in the gutters, the low part of the pyramid, can barely work a normal job and gets pissed by everything, always thinking about what he could have done if only his father actually invested in him, gave him soemthing instad of abandonning him. There you have it, the roots of good and evil, where it all starts for a male in the human specie. Who raises secure kids, sons and daughters, who contribute to society, and dont fall for all the extremes, traps? The hard working faithful man. You godamn motherfucking moron , how is the medical establishment responsible for fathers abandonning their kids , sons and daughters, who will barely survive depressed all life long ? How is the medical establishment responsible for that in the first place? You re confusing the order of things. You re ignorant. You must be young! Of course they re striving on other people who come from shity families psycho behavorial troubles, developing medications that dont even work or at best keep people asleep so they dont figure they ve been fucked in the ass by their own parents, genitors, who didnt have the decency to care enough about them after giving birth to them. Moral, spiritual decline is what leads to suffering in all human beings. If psychologists, psychanalysts exist nowadays, if most people try to find a meaning to their life in pseudo philosophies from Orient, if they need steroids, anti depressants, sleeping aids, thats because love is disapearing , because families are dysfunctional, and all of this is happening because the Words of God have been abandonned. All these bullshit pseudo medicaqtions full of side effects were developed  as religion was gradually abandonned , because people fell for all the traps of modernism, and lost faith. And all these jobs, all these ''docs'' are assholes who need mentally ill people to survive, to have a job, they strive on other people problems, they strive on the disapearing of love and they give bullshit solutions to their ''customers''. And they re the biggest atheists, the most anti christian assholes on earth, you connect the dots. This is the irony of the whole thing. Again, you fail to understand the order of things. You put the consequences before the causes, which is ilogical, and ignorant. Most human beings are only caring about what tomorow will be made of. Job. Dinner. Sex. TV, Internet, workout. Bed. We re designed to do so by evolution. Tomorow i can anticipate this, this, and that. And? And that's about it. That's how our brains work. Currently we all collectively know some major shit is going to hit the fan in some weeks, months. Yet we cant do anything about it individually speaking. We re just waiting for it to happen. Says a lot about our so called free will, our "power". We also know we re going to go thru something that alrdy happened in the past to our ancestors thanks to historians who wrote it all on paper so we can compare our current situation with theirs centuries ago. Yet we can t do shit about it even if we know it alrdy happened. We re as powerless as were our ancestors when they described the fall of the roman empire of occident. There can only be individuals solutions, no collective solutions. Nations dont exist anymore. Industrials, megacorporations use journalists , medias and politicians like pupets. And they are only following their own greed and dont give a single damn about the globalized mankind under them in the societal pyramid. They re only purpose in life is to stay at the top, and prevent people from lower positions to get to them and replace them. One can only decide to prepare himself and his loved ones to what s going to happen. He, she, cannot change the world. He cannot change the rules of nature.

He can only adapt, to survive...

No matter what fucking turn in life he choose to do, u cant tell the outcome! Probably he will be fucked no matter what!

Some probodybuilders regret their decisions, some dont.

A lot of people regret what they dident do yet they dont know shit how life would be if they did what they dident do. They base their thought about the imagination of how it would and COULD be. The reality is somethign different!

Yeah! Fuck off! Call me Yoda!

People are giving you shit because you have been coming off cocky.

You're not going pro. You will never place at nationals. Can you be competitive and win a local show eventually? Sure.

Do it as a hobby and just be satisfied with being bigger and leaner than 99.9% of the population.

And a little humility wouldn't hurt.

I think that Mike comes off reasonably humble. He's honest about his shortcomings, laughs at himself with others, knows he's not going to win a Sandow. WTF, people? He actually trained and got up on stage, for that alone, he gets huge props.

Mike, you can PM me the naked physique pics of your wife. TIA.

its good to get your feet wet but that also was a huge show,26 or so people in a class is like a jr usa/national even national class  ,,ok there not all top level like a 'national'level but the competitor numbers are there.it would have been better to do a tuneup show in novice class and open to collect some trophies and get looked at as a frontrunner, maybe even have snagged a overall novice trophy with the weight class.open is great,to compete open means you get chance to face some good builds at least top 5 depending how many show up...
,

Great advice there Navy Mike  ;)

Look buddy, anyone who ever competed thinks you looked decent ,but:
1 Regardless of muscle mass, you could have been more ripped and you already know that.

2. You need to compete in top condition and dominate in a smaller contest or novice class before doing another big show.

3. You're a vet coming off an injury. That's your reality .

4. You can get ripped to the bone. You will get ripped to the bone IF the passion and desire is there.

Thanks for taking the time to post your pics and having the balls to do it.

YEAH.........HELL YEAH

Sincerely,

H

what killed you were the back shots. Glutes were way too soft and lower back carried a lot of water. Not gonna say you need to get leaner as you already know this but need to really get lean for the next show. Should not have happened with a guru, no excuses to defend him.

Do you have any back shots showing you were lean the days before the show? Don't recal any...

I'd stop delt training until you catch up the rest.

I also have noticed that navy Mike has pro level genetics. I honestly feel he is genetically elite and could turn pro in as little as 2-3 years. Would probably only round out top 10 in the olympia if lucky but may have a shot at winning some smaller Grand Prix shows. I suggest he hop on a pro level cycle including 10-22 iu of gh and insulin to help shuttle the nutrients into the muscle.

Yes, if NM has to ever go on dialysis, we will hear from his wife and family that he had a rare genetic condition that he was unaware of and the steroids has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with it.

Here's the truth. That guru based "peaking" nonsense cost you $$ only to make you look worse on stage.
Next time avoid using any guru/coach and just go in "as is".

FYI, you made some impressive gains compared to where you started .

You shouldn't need a guru period.  It's not rocket science.  You weren't lean enough, you have another 10-15 pounds to lose.  What you thought was water, was actually fat.  My guess is you also used a diuretic, which just makes you look worse.  These gurus just rip people off, most of them don't know shit themselves.  You need more thickness everywhere.  Deadlift, squat, etc.  not being a dick, but you have no back, or legs.  You have delts.  Everything else, not so much.  For this show, to be shredded, you should have been a Middleweight.

Your example made me realize some important but of forgotten aspect of competitive bodybuilding.
The sport of BB was/is never perfect when it comes to contests.
BUT, you're either on stage flexing or out watching from the cheap seats.

Far more personal satisfaction to go for it, regardless of how you place.
