Title: The 35 lb plate - The redheaded stepchild of the weight room
Post by: El Diablo Blanco on March 31, 2015, 08:58:02 AM
Why do these exist?  What's their purpose?  Was it just an experiment gone wrong? Who has time for the math?

Just think about how 25# plates feel.

I used to love the 35s when i started lifting and got to  bench 205 then 295 then never cared for them any more.I rarely see them anymore.

I have fucking 6 of them. I just keep them in the garage and use them for the sled or the prowler.

They can be mistaken (by the heathens) for 45's and used to impress.

I have a bunch too

They are very useful for free-weight T-bar rows

I could see that. I just keep piling on the 25s.

I like them better than the 45s.

If you're doing tbar rows they're better than 45s because you have a greater range of motion.

As mentioned, useful to increase motion on some things, and also its foreign cousin, the #15kg bumper plate is especially useful for planning jumps during olympic lifting.

If you can't do the math you must be a bodybuilder. I have always used the 35lbs plate when lifting.

My gym doesn't even have 35's any more. It seems arbitrary to get rid of the 35's and not the 25's or the 45's. I guess they figured the more "strong" people will use the 45's and the more "weaker" people will use the 25's.  ??? ??? But nothing in between? Then again, how many people actually stack on multiple 45's? In a normal every day gym, it would actually seem more worthwhile to get rid of the 45's and keep the 25 and 35's.

And whats up with the 2 1/2 pound plates? I guess for small incremental weight increases.

These are the difficult questions that bodybuilders have to ask themselves day-in and day-out with no readily available answer. Its the burden we bear.

Me and my training partner back in the day would call the small plates (2.5-10lbs) cookies.  8)

When I see the 2.5 pound plates I just toss them aside and do not even bother with them. Someone once asked me if I was going to use the 2.5 pound plate, and I smirked and said, "Um, no, why even use them and only add such little weight. Go heavy or go home." He just whispered under his breath and walked away.

No one is ranting over the extent to which he rants over Obama and liberals, especially on a bodybuilding forum.

When I was in myrtle beach I went to a gym in Conway, I forget the name of it, but they had 45kg plates. Never seen them again until I visited my buddy's gym in Canada and he's got the same ones! I mistook it for a 45lb plate, went to pick it up and for a second I thought I got weaker cause it felt like 100lbs (which it is) haha!

Its all the same shit.

Ahhhh, so you can't just ignore the comments? you have to comment every single time with your asinine comments. You just sound like a deluded idiot, well, you kind of are.  :D :D Carry on.  :D :D

I'm guessing 250 'solid' lbs and 35% BF, 'doesn't care about looks just strength' but only benches 225 for a couple of shitty reps
