Title: An open letter to Navy Mike
Post by: Howard on April 01, 2015, 11:03:20 AM
Dear Mike,

We now know you're lovely wife won her class in bikini and has the right look to go pro.
Despite your best efforts you ended up finishing out of the trophies in the middle of  large Lt Hvy wt class.

KISS- Keep It Simple - Basic training, good basic food and only use the few drugs that work really well for your body in moderate cycles.

Of course, if you've had with competing , fine. Support your wife and still train in he gym.
You competed and did your best , but maybe it's not really your thing?
There are plenty of other fitness/exercise related sports to get into.

Good luck, Howard

I thought about Navy Mike right before I went to the gym today. Grinded out a few extra reps thinking of his contest prep. Was motivated beyond belief.

Howard I agree with you 100%. I know I'll never be a pro. I just want to see what I can do if I actually try for a year. I'm in no rush I'm just in school and working on my hotrids living life.  I do it because it's so challenging to me. My wife ya she has pro written all over her. That's why I just book the plan tickets for jr usa in May of this year. I'm not going to spend my money on gh and be selfish when she could actually do somthing with it.

Here's my problem.  I'm a fatass. I need way more glute development, my hams are terrible and my legs are starting to come back up from my Injury.  I just want to hit them and bring them up to balance out some start my prep bigger and leaner and really feel cofident in myself.

Navy Mike, its strange because your chest looks good in side tricep and side chest poses, but looks small when you're hitting that all muscular. I guess its the angle.

Yes, when doing the all muscular, its clear that his delts are overpowering his chest. Needs more fullness and better upper tie-in.

Delt dominant, as most people are these days. Me included. Isolating the chest is tough, especially if you have big delts and triceps. They tend to do the work.

I told you this at the beginning of your prep. Go for it then. You'll not have to be ripped like a bodybuilder, you'll not have to wear a thong and you'll not fuck up your health for the pro card.

Many of the better MPD guys have incredible physiques with classic lines.
It's not their physiques that I have a problem with.
It's the goofy format they use to compete in the MPD .
They don't judge or display legs. They don't do any poses, except stand there with their hand on their hip.

Using that format it's NOT bodybuilding. It's male swimsuit modeling with some vague judging criteria to pick the places.

Again, NOTHING wrong with being a swimsuit model. It isn't bodybuilding and that's what I'm into.

Excellent advice from Howard. I to went through the same thing with competing the difference was I never wanted to be a pro, and knew I was not willing to do the drug protocol it would take to compete even at the national level. I just loved competing, and loved the fact that I had the discipline to attain that condition.
Keep supporting that wife of yours and manage her career that she is going to have. Just keep hitting the gym hard and train for the love of bodybuilding we all have. When the feeling hits you enter a show you know you can walk away with a trophy from.

You summed up exactly how I feel and look at it. I'll never be a pro. Hell my ultimate goal is to just step on a national stage I don't care if I plave just to stand up there and look the best I can would be like the peak for me

Standing on a national stage with 40-50 guys while  in top shape seems like an awesome experience, right? Wrong.
It sucks when you stand there for the top call outs and miss the cut to pose in the night show finals. Been there/done that.
Plus, you just spent a bunch of $$ competing in a show you had zero impact in.

Mike, I've won and placed high at smaller events.
I competed in a few big shows , rarely did well and got lost in the crowd.

Being a BIG fish in a smaller pond is 100x better then being a minnow in the ocean.

Like your wife did, conquer the lower level 1st and you'll KNOW you can run with the big dogs.
