Title: Bill Starr Has Passed.
Post by: BB on April 08, 2015, 01:04:52 PM
Noted Olympic Lifter, professional strength coach, weed enthusiast,  and author Bill Starr has passed. He was most noted for his work in Ironman Magazine and previously Strength and  Health. He was also noted as the biggest proponent of the 5x series of Powerlifting programs which would become a mainstay in strength training for years to come.

P.S. For those interested, someone posted the bulk of Starr's "Defying Gravity" here -

http://www.scribd.com/doc/97220394/Defying-Gravity-Bill-Starr#scribd .

It's somewhat of a forgotten classic, mostly about pre-contest preparation. It's a very good read for the novice lifter, or those that just like reading about ye olden days.

One of the pioneers of the NFL strength and conditioning coaches. His advice was always old school and effective. He said for football players the fundamentals is a squat, a power exercise like a clean or snatch and a pressing motion. Anything else was just extra.
