Title: Planet Fitness Online?
Post by: TheGrinch on April 18, 2015, 07:00:03 PM
What would be the online version of Planet Fitness? Is there a business out there that has the same sort of business model? Not necessarily with a gym (obviously) but I wonder if other companies have used the same business model/setup online?  ???

What dya mean? Like fitness sites... or just general businesses that try to appeal to the largest possible number of people while expecting the fewest number of people to actually utilize the service?

Just sitting here thinking if planet fitness tried to follow someone else' business plan or have any online stores/services/software companies took planet fitness success and tried something like that online in whatever area fitness or otherwise

I guess I'm not quite sure what you're asking. Are you asking if planet fitness was the first business to do the low price/large customer base/ low usage thing or is there another aspect you're talking about?

my mind was just wandering this afternoon I guess.. but is there anything in the online fitness market niche (product, service or software) that operates the same way as Planet fitness? Is there something in the online fitness industry that you could theoretically call or think of as the "online planet fitness"  catering to out of shape people every day people or just broke ass people ?

sorry... cocaine is a helluva drug  :-o
(more like too much Macallan 18 but you get the idea..)

I'm still not 100% sure I get what you're talking about, but maybe something like the Ab-roller or any of those ab products that they sell in infomercials. Like, it's sorta the same in that people who buy them are never really gonna use them, but they are usually affordable enough that people will buy into the dream.

maybe charging out of shape people $9/mo to access some personal trainer help community where they could ask a million questions of trainers? Sending them tootsie rolls and candy once a month... have a 1st Tuesday pig out live chat/share pictures of your cheat meal..LOL

$9/mo would actually be on the pricey end for a service like that, I think.  And the overhead would be bananas if you got a really large client base. People will talk about fitness more than they will engage in fitness, which is why Planet Fitness excels.   IMO, it's not  too comparable to the planet fitness model.
