I find it ironic how Phil's bdb is among the best ever but from the front it's an abomination. Not to just pick on Phil I'm sure I can find one on Kai, Ronnie, Jay and many others.

All the 80's guys had the bloated guts but cameras were expensive back then so we only got to view the pictures that captured Haney etc in their best light. A higher value was placed on posing back in the day so the guys knew how to hide the gut. Gary Strydom actually has 6 fingers on his left hand but being the master poser he is, his freakish abnormality was always cleverly concealed from the camera lens.

It's just one more thing that shows how the whole mentality of bodybuilders has changed... back in the 70s or prior to that most bodybuilders were trying to create a beautiful physique, it was like an art
to them. It was not about just how much conditioned mass one can build but about the complete package and the results had to be pleasing to the eye.
This also applies to the posing - back then most bbers were trying to pose in an elegant and classical way. Remember the beginning of Pumping Iron where Arnie and Franco take ballet lessons? The posing had to look "noble" if you know what I mean... you would not have to be embarrassed to watch a posing routine unlike watching one of Kai's. I mean Kai is a great performer for sure but it has not the same elegance that the classical posing had. Today's posing is just about a) looking the biggest and leanest you can and/or b) entertaining the people with artistic moves and stuff like robotdancing/breakdancing ..
Back then everything was viewed as a complete package, you had to look good from every angle in every pose, every bodypart had to be in relation to each other. Nowadays everyone is just trying to get every bodypart as big as possible individually and every pose is hit in a way that it looks the most impressive to the judges.

Let me ask you a question. Why was Serge Nubret snubbed during the filming of Pumping Iron? We never got an interview with him on camera. After his death, there was no tribute, no Flex magazine memorial to one of the greatest bodybuilders of all time.
Serge was a UFO nut. He was close to blowing the doors wide open on an international conspiracy and this sensitive knowledge was precisely why the Weider's hired a shady nurse to poison poor Serge as he lay incapacitated in a hospital bed.

The ballet was staged though.

What.....the.....fuck. Put the meth pipe down.

Lmao WHAT the fuck!

The ballet was staged though.
It was a movie not a documentary so pretty much everything was staged... but maybe they never really took ballet lessons I don't know but that does not change
the fact that everyone thought that the posing had to be elegant like ballet while Phil Heath is posing to Hip-Hop music and trying to act all cool... or watch some of
Ronnies posing routines - nothing elegant or beautiful about that, reminds me more of some gangster rap video, hardly an artform.

I mentioned this before. What Phil does in the BDB pose is he tilts back and scrunches up his lower back. It actually makes him shorter. I think he does this to hide any flaws in his lower back, which I don't see any. He started doing this a few yes back. Before he would do it in a normal manner. The new way he does it, makes him look as tall as Kai, and makes his arms seem small, but accentuates his full delts.

In addition to standing in front of the line.

In addition to standing in front of the line.
also, that pic, and in certain poses makes it look like he has weak legs, specifically lacking in the game and quad sweep.
-
Trying to get the lower back Christmas
tree I'm guessin.

On Iron Age site, Nubret explained all about Iron Pumping production, producer was paying all BB just $ 200 for participation & in his opinion that was peanuts.

Total BS , ::)

This is bodybuilding.
I don't know what these bloated soft giant physiques are today. In addition all the photos are tampered with using photo shop and other techniques. I saw the current Olympia contest on video then I see the altered photos in the magazines. Give me a break they are not even close to what they looked like on stage.

Not to disgrace this topic, but how far in front of the line does he want to be?
