Title: Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's Mother's Day Post
Post by: Al Doggity on May 11, 2015, 08:51:00 PM
Cool Mother's Day story… early am flight and I'm sitting across from my mom, when out of the blue she looks around the plane, then looks at me and says, "Son, I can't believe the life I have… grandma and grandpa would be so proud". I asked her, "Are you happy ma?". Just then the flight attendant placed my mom's breakfast down on the table and my mom said to me, "Am I happy?.. I used to worry about how I was going to buy groceries for us and now I just had my breakfast placed down in front of me". She bursts into tears and says, "Yes, son I couldn't be happier". This is the woman who when I was 14yrs old we were evicted out of our apartment in Hawaii because we couldn't afford the weekly $180 rent. At this moment I'm shaking my head and smiling quietly (as my mom blows her nose;), because she just told me she's happy. And y'all know when our parents tell us they're happy, it's so satisfying for us, because it means we've done a good job for them as their kids. Happy Mother's Day to all the amazing deserving mama's out there. And Happy Mother's Day to my amazing mom who will no doubt kill me for posting this crying pic. #EnjoyBreakfastMom #GratefulTears #TryNotToCryInTheEggs

I like Dwayne but....

He's been milking this "I was so poor" sympathy cow for sometime now...He's been well off for a very long while and he needs to let it go...it's not like he was an orphan in India or shizzo in Florida.

Secondly...am I suppose to feel sorry for his mum? She's wearing a solid gold watch with diamonds on the bezel....I'm 36 and been busting my ass since 16 and just about bought myself a half gold watch, you don't see me crying over a plate of croissants.

Do you believe he's going for sympathy? Or maybe that he's trying to inspire someone in a tough spot?

I don't think he's going for sympathy...but being the "people's champ" and popularity online translates into $$$$ in his industry....I do feel he knows that well and chooses carefully what to post and his choice of words to enhance that image.

I doubt it is a sympathy, more a reminder where he was and appreciation for everything he has achieved. Why going public? As much as it sounds corny, he might inspire some young kids to pursue their dreams.

Do you own/buy other brands? I'm Rolexed out now, next piece will have to be something else, thinking of a plain steel AP royaloak (not the bulky offshore ones) or alange sohne and JL have a couple of models of interest to me.

I guess it could be interpreted either way, out to the world to inspire or out to world to gain popularity...a bit like Obama coming to Ireland and takes pictures drinking Guinness to appeal to the white Irish voters back home. Or George Bush trying to cuddle a black baby, but the baby was having none of it and the subtle look of disgust on dubyas face he failed to hide was undeniable.

Not an expert but I like some of Stuhrling watches, such as this one. Looks great IMO. I have a similar looking model but a bit cheaper than this one which is about 2 1/2 grand I believe.

i had an ap roo,was to big and bulky for me so got rid of it after about a month,Im big into rolex. The ap royal oak is a beauty.the watch i interested in now is a ss 116680 yachtmaster ii might be to big like the ap though.I also like the omega speedmaster line.Jl has some great looking watches as well as patek but those are to pricey for me.I venture out occasionally but always come back to rolex, something about it just feels right. The daytona being my alltime favorite watch and will be back on my wrist by june.im big into no date watches hence the 116520,116680 and the 114060 which is due back on my wrist as well,im a serial watch flipper.

It's a GMT....you sure do switch sides

You would be a lot happier if you purchased a decent watch. Unfortunately, you are a typical GMT wearer. Couldn't pony up for the Daytona, so decided a two tone would fool people into thinking you are "loaded" and therefore someone of repute.

It is the horological equivalent of synthol.

what is wrong with a two tone 116713 gmt?its a great watch that many would love to own,to each his own a gmt, sub, daytona, milgauss,dj ii,dd ii etc,its all peronal choice. Most people cant afford one so owning one deserves a little bragging rights in my book. Its a 13k watch, thats quite a significant watch if you ask me hardly shitty.

I don't even own a watch. Just use my cell phone for the time.  :D :D

Then again, I guess a watch looks good if youre a business man or lawyer or something. Doesn't matter in my field. Plus, I hate the way a watch feels on my wrist. Ive never really liked the way jewelry felt on my body (ring, chain, watch, bracelet). It always feels like I am having to adjust it or move it around.

Watches def are not for everyone.i just like the look and feel of it.im no lawyer, doctor or biz man,i just enjoy a nice watch.Id rather spend 10k on a watch than spend 50k on a car but thats just me.the way i look at it is time is the most important thing in the world so i want a great timepiece.End of story.i have freinds with 100k cars and 30k bikes,il stick to my watches.

I doubt it is a sympathy, more a reminder where he was and appreciation for everything he has achieved. Why going public? As much as it sounds corny, he might inspire some young kids to pursue their dreams.

I think that is also part of the problem. The fact that more kids know who Britney Spears or The Rock is, than they know who Stephen Hawking, Issac Newton, or Marie Curie are. Its okay to look up to movie stars, singers, wrestlers, to a certain extent, but I think kids need to have real heroes, people who have really changed the world. Its the scientist who is struggling day-in and day-out trying to develop a cure for cancer that kids should look up to. Instead, they all just want to become rich and famous, and that is what the Rock portrays: Money and a lavish lifestyle. Of course, there is nothing wrong with this, but we all know why The Rock is constantly posting feel good stories: To stay in the limelight because that equals money for him. Its quite sad when a music or wrestling video on youtube has 12 million views, and a Tedtalk on physics (or any other intellectual topic) has 300 views :/ I wish kids would start looking toward other figures for inspiration, in order to make more of a direct impact on the world.

LOL nailed it.

fake humility all the way. These people dont understand they got where they are due to pure luck more than anything. But they always keep convincing themselves -publicly- they got there because of some kind of superhuman "work" others didnt do. Most of the time you dont even hear about the less shiny stuff they had to do to get there either. There are are billions of people busting their asses a lot more than them but simply happened to be born less lucky and in return get nothing for their "work".

Its quite sad when a music or wrestling video on youtube has 12 million views, and a Tedtalk on physics (or any other intellectual topic) has 300 views :/ I wish kids would start looking toward other figures for inspiration, in order to make more of a direct impact on the world.
this is true, but look at this "industry" - today Heath and Kai are in their prime, ronnie and jay are irrelevant...tommorow there will be 2 new faces and champions and people will running just around them and the old cahmpions will be slowly forgotten...look for example some football clubs, like barcelona real madrid etc...in 10 years from now how many children or adults would asko to take a picture with some player who wasnt in the spotlight? they will be forgotten, the only thing that will hopefully stay is the earned money...look backstreet boys where are they now?!all of them are broke and they are still doing shows but they are irrelevant...the same will happen to justin biber in a few years

In his book he talks about driving around looking for the least stained matress he can find to take home from the back of motels because he was hard up for cash. That's pretty unshiny.

You claim he's fake, but like someone else said, everyone that's met him has nothing but good stuff to say. He's been famous for over 15 years, I'm sure somebody would have seen a slip up by now.

The only people who care about watches are other homosexuals with watches.  Sure, if you want to impress them, I understand.  But if you want something thats going to last, you buy a Timex.  In fact, for the price of a Rolex you can buy like 200 of them so you would be covered for the next 20,000 years easily if one should break.

Guys I know back in London used to raid very high end jewellery stores and the odd storage vault. In fact, I have my suspicions babout the recent Hatton Garden vault raid over Easter, but anyway. So I saw gold Rolex, Breitling, Phillipe Patek, etc. The only watch I saw that I liked were the Rolly Yachtmaster. Don't know the retail but my mate offered it to me for a grand if I was willing to hang on to the loot for a few weeks in case he got raided (which he did but in an unrelated theft). I told him I'd do it but didn't want the watch. Was nice but not worth it to me for a grand. The REAL wealthy people don't walk around talking or posing with these things. It's just part of who they are. You can always see a poser very quickly.

x2. I used to love wearing them as a kid. I used to be in awe about all the cool things it can do. I have to admit, while owning an expensive watch may be nice and all, the sense of awe I had when purchasing the casio watch, and being so excited about all the cool things it can do, will probably never equal to owning the most expensive watch. Yup! Pretty much. The fact that my watch had a light, and I could tell the time at night in the dark. I don't think that watch ever left my wrist lol. Its funny because its those small things in childhood that really bring a sense of awe, wonder, and excitement, that I don't think any expensive watch as an adult can equal.

There was nothing to "The Rock".  What was he supposed to be really?

This is better.

Wrestling is so bad these days :/ There is no character development, and it overwhelmingly relies on sex to sell. Its just boring these days.

the undertaker is the exception, most fans want realistic characters and those are the ones that main event wrestlemania

there's a reason characters like val venis, papa shango, or the godfather didn't last and were mid carders at best

yes that is what i mean about him getting an opportunity due to his connections, that character was awful and his career would've died and been completely forgotten if he didn't make changes

guys like brock lesnar and goldberg were handed main event status in pro wrestling, the rock was handed a spot but he made himself a star

E

This is the way of the world in practically every industry. Connections are worth way more than talent.

The Brietlings and such are jokes and are not meant for anything.

I don`t think you get it.  You started bashing me and George Bush for our Timex watches which are great, well made watches.  Nothing wrong with buying a Brietling if you like to waste money on a bunch of little gears and like to pretend you are a James Bond villain or effeminate cologne stinker.

Oh I get it all right.  They are interesting in how they are made, but certainly the cost does not justify their components, manufacture build or gold/diamond or what have you content.

The bottom line is what you want out of it and if you want something that lasts and for what price.

A Timex to me is more valuable than a Brietling and accomplishes the same task exactly the same and I would feel the same about myself if I had a 20,000 dollar watch on or a 40 dollar Timex.

Sounds like you would not though, therefore thats your problem.

I've bought/sold many watches on watch forums and buyers always pay first for a watch. In my many years of doing this not one person has ever stiffed me!  I've probably flipped six figures in watches.

Actually love the Deepsea but the bracelet is too thin for the watch.

If by luck you mean born with a decent brain and drive and in a Western country, then yes, you're right.

In 2007, Mayer purchased his first of seven Rolex watches from Maron, a broker and expert on "important" watches primarily by Rolex and Patek Philippe, according to the lawsuit.

In 2010, Mayer sent one of the Rolexes to Rolex for servicing. The Swiss company informed Mayer that the watch he had sent them "was not authentic in all respects" -- some of the parts in the watch were not Rolex parts. When Mayer confronted Maron about the watch, Maron apologized and gave him a refund.

Mayer went on to buy more watches from Maron to the tune of about $5,000,000. But after finding out that seven of the watches were allegedly counterfeit, Mayer filed his lawsuit.

so the guy obviously didnt do his homework,Ive seen great quality reps that can pass most people by but most in the know wont be fooled. The japanese make great reps looks wise but the movements suck until serviced them can be decent but look nothing like rolex movement, there is a popular asian 2836 movement that is put in alot of reps and anyone that knows movements can spot them immediately. Also the sweeping movement in reps isnt right, the laser etching on the saphire crystals isnt right, the rehaut engraving is usually weong as well.most rep rolexes with dates the the date aparture will be crooked and the date wont switch at midnight, seeial numbers are incorrect for the models.colors are usually a shade off, crown wont be smooth,if stainless steel the use 316 not 904.lots of simple differences.if you know what to look for.
