Title: hormones and mental state
Post by: cephissus on May 25, 2015, 01:37:12 PM
Many talk about the mental affects of hormones, e.g. tren increasing anxiety, test increasing libido and confidence.

Do hormones (especially test) help or hinder your mental state as you try to get as lean as possible?

I'm wondering if a natural has to be more careful to avoid ending up with too much cortisol (chronically depressed, anxious) whereas a guy on the right stack might have more leeway?

I have found dieting down easier naturally. Easier on the mind that is.

Depends how well you can handle stress. Dieting is stressful on the mind and body, how well can you deal with this day in, day out? How well does one deal with their stress while on gear?

All up to the individual. I find it akin to someone who drinks a few after work. Yeah work today sucked, but I don't run to the liquor store to solve that problem. If you can be internally calm, the world is yours.

Cortisol is not all bad. It's all so complicated  :D

I have a feeling extra synthetic cortisol might be a good idea sometimes on cycle. But too
lazy to hunt down some hydrocortisone tabs.

Tren can fuck up mood, making you very depressed and "dark". Tren can antagonize cortisol
real well and I've wondered if this is part of why. Tren can also make you crave carbs like crazy.

Steroids can first increase cortisol and then lower it (studies on pubmed on Dianabol doing this). The Russians had a test for showing if athletes were abusing too many steroids and/or not being receptive (time for a break). They gave a dose of Dianabol and then looked at cortisol. No increase in cort = time for a break.

what about people who cruise then year round between cycles are they blunting receptivity. Some say receptor saturation is bro science but I dont know.

Yeah they don't seem to reduce androgen receptor concentration but that's not to say there aren't
other mechanisms blunting response a bit.

I suspect adding some cortisone at a mild 'non-supressive of endo production' use of hydrocort might alleviate the run-down feeling on long tren runs.

anabolic steroids and androgen steroids increase aggression and a sense of well being. It works almost like an anti depressive. Going off and staying completely clean for a months can lead to depression, a sense of being timid and being nervous.

Look at the profound affect of hormones have on the personalities of children going through puberty. Taking hormones for recreation to look muscular temporarily will have an affect on the mind, mood and emotions.

What difficulties do hormones impose?  Do they make any aspect easier?

Lookout! Oldtimer has a new angle of attack on AAS: depression and suicide. He'll be working this into every thread for a couple of weeks.

I felt the same way through my training life. I never took pictures because I was always hard on my self thinking I could do way better. I wish I had a picture of myself at 24 when I was ripped. I have so few pictures of my self when I was in my early 40's looking good. I was just so critical and hard on my self thinking wait till you really get it together. Now closing in on 60 I will never regain what I had and I wish at least I had some pictures. I have two pictures of me in decent shape with my shirt off for my whole life of training.

I see steroid junkies load up on pictures on cycle and they show people the pictures when they are off cycle looking like crap. One fat smooth guy was showing me a picture of him self all buffed out and I told him I don't need the picture you're right in front of me. He put his treasured picture back in his wallet and quickly changed topics.
