Title: Piss Frequency?
Post by: Al Doggity on May 31, 2015, 07:37:25 PM
Does anyone else experience the need to take a piss increasing with an increase in protein consumption?
I've never heard a pro, and some of my boys are competitors and they've mentioned protein farts and protein shits, but not protein pissing. For me, it's extremely noticeable, like my bladder is bursting at the seams every two hours.

Protein metabolism doesn't cause increased urine but does produce urea as a byproduct. You should actually drink more water when you eat more protein to help filter out the urea.

you can look at the urine and learn a lot about it.   bubbles should pop quickly with minimal residue.  Get a cold, you'll leak a little proteinuria and be able to tell.

I've always prefered to just drink it.

Get yourself to the Doc

Wow, I'm thinking maybe I should. I thought this was something that at least a few others might experience. I weighed 238 this morning and I am consuming about 250-275 grams of protein daily, so it's not out of control like 400,500 grams. I don't drink soda and the only liquid I drink besides water are the 3 protein/liquid calorie drinks I take daily and my urine is almost clear.  Whenever my protein intake drops, my bladder control goes back to normal, so I'm nearly 100% positive they're related.

The doc is gonna freak out over your protein consumption when you tell him. Just be ready for it.

You really don't need that much protein. We've all been fooled.

250 odd isn't excessive for your size I don't think..

How ever much you piss, spare a thought for the board pensioners who piss dozens of times per night

Yeah, I don't think it's  excessive, either. I can respect that others might see it that way, though. I used to be a part of the mindless high-protein cult and tried to do 350 a day. Then I stopped taking protein powder altogether and my weight didn't drop and I was still lean, so I figured protein powder was a scam.

But for about the past six months I've been trying a really intense program- heavy weight, extremely short rest periods. It's INTENSE. Literally, every spot on my shirt is covered in sweat by the time I'm done. Even other people at my gym have noticed how intense it is and some have started doing similar workouts. I was doing moderate/low protein when I started and what I noticed is that my body was looking pretty good, but I was having a hard time increasing strength. Increasing protein helped with that.  So, for my needs, the higher amount of protein is beneficial.

If your piss creates bubbles then that is protein in the piss and a sign of kidney problems. As for frequency if I drink a large drink it takes an hour max to pass through.

yep foamy can be lots of things.   iced tea can cause it.  the leakage (which you dont have) - proteinuria - is what should concern people.  Most of us get foam from time to time - diet, stress, immune system, lots of things.
